If you like it, toss it in and call it a salad.
There are no limits on what can or cannot be a salad. Be creative. Have fun.0 -
I love prawns, so will add them to salads sometimes. I really enjoyed crushing fresh ginger and a couple of cloves of garlic up and mixing that in to my salads aswell0

I've been taking ideas from the salad bar at whole foods. When I'm in a pinch, I pay more and just use their precut goodies for my salads all week. Some things they have there: bulgur, sliced carrots, sliced beets, cabbage, beans, corn, swiss chard. I've found that if I can slice it really thin, almost anything can go on my salads.0

here are a couple of things you don't see in salads too often but are delicious:
Corn
diced apples
Potato croutons: cube a potato into crouton sizes (I do the small size), put on a baking sheet and spray with cooking spray and sprinkle with salt. cook at 400 degrees until browned. They make a salad filling for me!0 -
Strawberries, blueberries, mandarin orange slices, almonds, sunflower kernels, raisins, dried cranberries, crispy onion strips, the possibilities are endless.1

Fresh spinach leaves, courgette sliced wafer-thin with a veggie peeler or spiralised, orange segments, toasted seeds and nuts, avocado, cherry tomatoes, anything you like. Different oil and vinegar dressings add variation too, like olive oil/balsamic vinegar or rapeseed oil/cider vinegar. Toasted sesame oil is nice too, all oils in moderation though.1

There are sooo many options here. Actually switching to spinach and Kale will be more nutrient dense. You can add nuts, berries(fresh or dried),eggs, chopped meats, celery, carrots, squash, broccoli I mean a salad is anything that you make it.
I just made a garbanzo bean salad the other day! I can garbanzo beans. One can tuna fish in water. One can Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies. One can green beans (drained). One can corn (drained). Feta Cheese.
The dressing I made as well. Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar with fresh rosemary and fresh thyme in a spout bottle. Let it sit.It gets stronger in time.
Take everything mix it up and put it in the fridge for at least an hour.
Serving size is one cup.0 -

I quit eating salad for awhile, because something about it just really turned me off. I finally figured out that 'something' was store-bought salad dressing. Yuck! I now make homemade dressing. There are lots of easy, low-cal dressings on Pinterest that taste great and aren't filled with all kinds of additives and preservatives I can't even pronounce. I love salad now, and eat it almost every day for lunch.0

I buy the large white 'gigante' beans from Italy (Annalisa brand) and rinse them before adding them to salads. They are delicious & and add protein.0

I like mine with romaine, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese, egg, and red wine vinegar. Sometimes I'll replace either the egg or the cheese with leftover meat from dinner throughout the week. Sometimes I like some croutons. Sometimes I like onion or green peppers.
I find that mixing it up is fun.0 -
Um, BACON!0

So many things!
Oh, and sardines.
A super easy, cheap, healthy way to add protein to a salad.0 -
I like a plain salad. I'll put a mixture of greens like lettuce, chicory, spinach, and kale. Then top with tomato, carrot, egg, cucumber, a little cheese, and some type of meat.0

I use whatever I have in the refrigerator (including whatever protein option I have). One thing I like to do is add some cooked vegetables too. And IMO one can never go wrong with olives.0

+1 for olives0 -
Twice this week I've had a container of "spring mix" with a can of pink salmon on top. I absolutely love eating fish, especially salmon, so that combined with a yummy miso scallion dressing and I was in hog heaven (at a cost of about 280 calories, too!)0
