I agree with @Stoshew71 , streak running and "listening to your body" aren't really compatible. I would never want to do anything that would jeopardize the longevity of my running days. The problem with streaks is that they don't really have a clear end. The longer you go, the more likely you are to force yourself to go even when you shouldn't just to keep the streak alive. I like goals with an end, like Boston :)

    11/1 - 3.81 C25k W1D3 (.73 + 2.32 + .76)
    11/2 - 5.78 walking lunch break + evening walk (3.3 + 2.48)
    11/3 - 2.99 C25k W2D1 + continuation of lunch run (2.09 + .9)
11/4 - 1.78 nice, easy, comfortable lunch walk.
    11/5 - 3.13 C25k W2D2 + 180 spm practice (2.23 + .9)
    11/6 - 4.61 walking lunch break + evening walk (2.36 + 2.25)
    11/7 - 2.16 C25k W2D3 (2.16)
11/8 - Full rest day. Was my 1 yr anniversary for starting to lose weight so I went SHOPPING!!
    11/9 - Full rest day.
    11/10 - 6.17 C25k W3D1 + 180 spm practice (2.24 + .7) C25k repeat + 180 spm practice (2.01 + 1.22)
11/11 - 2.8 walking lunch break *noon after the first snowfall of the season. I was overdressed. (Again)*
    11/12 - 2.93 C25k W3D2 + continuation of lunch run (2.12 + .81)
11/13 - Events of the day truly made it Friday the 13th. But it's over and possibly lent itself to the personal best of the next day!
11/14 - 6.01 Longest run of my life! MOD (mantra of the day) "Far, not fast." Was supposed to do C25k W3D3 but I forgot lol.
11/15 - Recovery day. **Never really knew what that meant before.
    11/16 - 2.98 C25k W3D3 + continuation of lunch run (2.08 + .9)
    11/17 - Snowmageddon!
    11/18 - Wind day
    11/19 - 3.31 C25k W4D1 + continuation of lunch run (2.33 + .98)
    11/20 - Sick day
    11/21 - Sick day
    11/22 - Sick day
11/23 - 4.1 Sick day- but HAD to get out and do SOMETHING!
11/24 - 4.19 Not my best experience but I was really glad to be out and doing it. I'm still learning how to dress for the weather so that I'm focused on running and not on my comfort level. Had to not let myself quit, and allow myself to walk when I felt I needed it. I'm not at 100% and had to let myself do what I could without expectations. THAT was hard!
11/25 - 3.02 Was supposed to be a walk day but I really just wanted to run. So I did. Today was easier than last night and I expect to do even better when I'm back to feeling normal again.

And because of the conversation about streaks, I've decided that I am not going to participate after all. I'm one of those that will get caught up in keeping the streak alive instead of paying attention to potential injuries that could be avoided by simply taking a couple of days off. So, to those of you streaking...good luck!! For those of you keeping on with already laid plans, I'm gonna hang out with ya'll if that's ok!

Just a couple of km as part of a PT session but thanks to the extra km's I have put in to meet this challenge I have taken 30 seconds off my fastest 1km time in a couple of weeks. Really pleased with the progress and wondering what folk do for December - keep same target, increase it or reduce a little to allow for festivities?

Re @patrikc333's question on run streaking: I've done fun holiday-based ones before, and I liked them. But I think that doing long-lasting run streaks can be dangerous if you aren't listening to your body. Some people can run and run and never get injured, but most people need rest days in order to recover and prevent injury, or have to take days off due to injury. I'd rather take rest days (yay sleeping in!) to prevent injury than feel the pressure to run through anything physical, weather-related, etc. just to maintain a streak. Like @Stoshew71 said, my focus is something like a BQ time and so that's what my training focuses on and why I'll never be a "streaker"; but if someone else's training is to do a year long streak or longer, then that's their prerogative.

    @shanaber - cool article!
@skippygirlsmom - keep the cold down here, please! Good luck tomorrow! Should be fun.

Tomorrow I have a big group bike ride and then I may or may not, run 1 mile, to start off my holiday streak. I will just do it for the holidays. Since I do a lot of other biking and strength training I am just going to count the biking as part of the streak if I have to. I agree with @patrikc333 - it takes longer for me to get dressed to run than to run a mile! I think I need a lesson in why I need rest days, because I'm hard headed that way. And, since I'm going away to son's wedding first weekend in December, not sure I will get miles in then. So, it will be a "Holiday Streak if I can steak".

Good luck to all you racers and turkey trotters tomorrow and Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate.

Speaking about streak running (in the different context)....

When I was a student at Purdue University (1989-1995), we had this thing called the Naked Olympics.
Basically, what we thought was going to be the coldest night of the year (as determined by a small group of students staying in the all male Cary Quad dorm), a group of these students would just go streaking around the courtyard of Cary Quad for a bunch of laps. Word spread out quickly and more participants (mostly male) joined in. This was an annual tradition. Well it used to be:

    http://www.purdueexponent.org/opinion/article_69a27d13-d5f2-528a-8687-bab634536d6d.html

Some time after I graduated, they stopped doing it and instead now do this "Nearly Naked Mile" thing as a fundraiser. Sounds lame.

Shortly before I was a student here, the university was OK with it. But by the time I got there, it was an illegal thing to do. And students that got caught participating did get charges against them. I don't remember if it was anything serious tho. But now they are just a part of history. :-(

11/1 3.1 @ 11:15 outside in the neighborhood in the rain
    11/2 rest
11/3 5.0 @ 10:59 on the treadmill (plus a 1 mile walk and strength training)
11/4 8.2 @ really really slow (16:04) riking (run-hiking, steep, covered with inches of leaves and treacherous fun)
11/5 4.0 @ 12:30 recovery run plus .5 walk on the park trail
    11/6 3.25 @ 10:53 on the treadmill (really 3.0 at 10:28, plus .25 at a walk) plus strength training.
    11/7 Rest/Life Day

    11/8 Rest/Life Day
11/9 5.5 @ 12:30 on the park trail with the doggy--who really enjoyed rolling around in the leaves!
    11/10 2.5 @ 11:38 (really 2.25 at 11:07 and a .25 walk) around the neighborhood in the rain.
    11/11 6 @ 11:32 on the treadmill (really 5 at 11:00 and 1 at a fast walk/jog) plus strength training
11/12 7 @ 11:45 (this is really like 5 at 10:50 and the rest a little slower), plus 1 at a walk on the treadmill. I am in some pain...yesterday was squats and lunges and this may have been a little aggressive of a run for right after. :( On the other hand, I did get to watch the entirety of "Bring It On". Where are my pompoms?!
    11/13 2 @ 13ish walk/running the dog for my recovery run.
    11/14 Rest day

11/16 5.0 @ 10:51 around the lake trail--my fastest outdoor run yet, in spite of a slow start. The 4th mile split was 9:44!!!!!!!OMG!!!
    11/17 3.5 @ 10:32 (really 3 @ 10:17 and .5 at 12:00) on the treadmill, and strength training
    11/18 7.5 @ 12:06 on the park trail (really 7 @ 11:53 and .5 at a walk)
    11/19 3.25 @ 11:18 on the treadmill (really 3 at 10:56 and .25 at a walk)
    11/20 5.0 @ average 11:59 (intervals) plus strength training
    11/21 Rest Day

11/22 Rest Day to celebrate my baby girl's 11th birthday
    11/23 4.75 @ 12:06 (4 @ 11:30, .75 at a walk) on the park trail with Wooly Dog. Feeling yuck. :(
    11/24 Travel/head cold day
11/25 5 @ 12:01 on the Perkiomen trail with the Wooly Dog who is afraid of deer. Beautiful, and I'm feeling a lot better today and looking forward to Thanksgiving with the family tomorrow.

Re: the streaking... I'm doing a bit of a holiday streak here, mostly just walking a few km's a day though while running is still out of the question (although I feel extremely tempted now that my ankle is feeling a little stronger).. So I wouldn't really call it a streak so much. I wouldn't normally run every day either as I wouldn't chance the potential injuries... I'm one of those people who can find a crack in the sidewalk!

I love running though and can't wait to get back to it!

6.5 km run with 6 members of the local Running club. A moderate -11C no wind chill. The run started before Moon Rise so we did not benefit from the Full Moon. Still a nice evening with friends. 40.2 Km to get to my monthly goal - should make it as I have a 10km run planned for Friday, and a long run ~20km for Saturday, Sunday regular 7km with the club so will need 3-4km on Monday. Not very often I do 4 days in a row so could be a challenge. Sunrise:8:46 Sunset:16:26. Definitely Struggling with the Limited Daylight Hours.

@skippygirlsmom I actually want a Headband and a Toque to cover my ears to cover off the different temperature ranges I run in. Definitely looking for the knit on the outside and fleece on the inside with the windblocker over the ears.

Really really grateful for exercise at the moment! Just had some stressful news and felt pretty upset so managed to get in a quick walk and it calmed me down immensely. A mole I had removed is Melanoma and I need to have more tissue removed. I know I say I can't wait to run again.. Though I am just grateful today that I can walk.. That I have my health and my family are well.. I honestly don't understand how people cannot exercise.. Just a walk - I feel so much better for it!... and it also serves as a timely reminder to have your skin checked regularly!! I'm glad I did!

mixed feelings. woke up ok, run 9k ok, pain free, lowered my pace to a more acceptable one, feeling very happy, and then I felt something wrong on my right calf. I don't have positive feelings now, I think I'm going to break tomorrow. I hope they were cramps, but that's weird. that left me in a bit of bad mood, as finally I am feeling better and better for my left leg, if something wrong is going to happen to the right one right now I'll be extremely pissed.
I just want to be a bit happy and run with no problems for a week, ffs!

need to schedule a trip to the running store, didn't realize my shoes got already 1300km, last time I checked they had 800 km - where the time is going? but considering we'll pass Xmas in a month time, it does make sense

drizzle today of course, rain for tomorrow wow wow wow!

and I smelt meatballs while running through a field this morning, it's amazing what the brain can do sometimes!

rest now till tomorrow super hard HM (that I won't finish off, I got this feeling)

thanks guys for your opinion about streak runners, from my point of view it is really nice to see that people recognize that it could be a type of a challenge like a particular race qualification time or a mileage goal etc, and it's not seen stupid at first glance

for me it's difficult to listen to the body (in "normal"conditions of course), as it sends contradictory messages and what I'd like to really understand properly is if running everyday is really going to increase the risk of injuries

I believe it is more tough mentally, but that's the beauty of the challenge for me (much much much more easy to say now sitting in front a PC after a run - I won't be so positive about it tomorrow in the middle of my usual Friday park run  )
