That's not to say there aren't people like that, but most serious lifters are just happy that someone is sharing their love of the iron and fully able to help and answer questions/yank the bar off of you if you look like you need it. In most cases I've seen, they might offer you helpful tips in the even of a failure that will hep you progress... but I've never seen a lifter who would make fun of someone who is just starting out, unless you happen to be one of those curl bros doing stupid crap and pretending you know it all.
Keep going... you'll impress yourself over time with what you can accomplish. Even getting started is impressive in my opinion.
And congrats on facing your fears.
Thank you I feel a responsibility to be the most excellent choice for zombie apocalypse partner you can find!!!!0 -

Are you going to run away and get yourself killed when I show up with hands covered in blood? Serious questions deserve serious answers.0 -

Heck no!!! This is the apocalypse, people are gonna be covered in blood from time to time. No reason for unnecessary fleeing0 -

I may however convince you I'm on a special assignment to DC to cure the zombie plague if it comes down to it;)0 -
Everyone knows DC will be the first to fall... it's one of the most violent places in the US.0

That's cool, I'm on a secret mission to survive anyway, I'm thinking you make your way out here to the rockies:) Ideal place to hunker down
ETA: low population and guns everywhere in spite of the general delightful blueness of our happy state:)0 -
Lol... I already live in the mountains... plenty of safe places here in rocky Colorado. And guns are noisy. There are better methods of dealing with undead that won't draw others.... also, successful total thread derail. *throws hands in the air*0

It's MY thread isn't it? I thoroughly enjoyed the derail, so who will stop us??? BWA HA HA HA0 -
I was just congratulating myself on the derail. It's not often I get to derail a thread so completely and usually it happens by accident when I'm trying to ask an OP a question and someone takes offense at science and logic and starts an argument... lol0

CoffeNCardio Congratulations on going in and getting it done!
Expect some staring for awhile and expect failure.
I am usually the only woman in the weight room and when I first started in the weight room, in January with the new resoloutionists and when the new semester starts when there are new med students at my gym I get some looks. I am a really short, overweight Indian woman so they are curious if I just wandered in on accident so they watch to see what I am doing. After about 2 minutes they lose interest when they realize I am just there to lift same as they are.
Failing while lifting is expected sometimes. I have failed on bench, pinned myself and had to squeak out "Help" about once every 6 months. Every time someone runs over to help me and not once has anyone made fun of me for getting pinned by so little weight. They make sure I am okay and it's business as usual. Failure leads to eventual growth. Better to try and fail than never try at all.1 -
Everything can be awkward the first time
The first time joining a cycling team and wearing the skin tight spandex suit was awkward.
But everyone else did it and looked natural and confident
Now it is really just like any other workout clothing
The gym is just s workout
You do it just like everyone else and go on home
Nothing to it
