Looking at pictures of natto makes me want to vomit, but lots of people love it. A feeling of disgust may be a useful guide for our own food choices, but it's not really applicable to anyone else. Your disgusting food is someone else's favorite.0 -
Love dairy, would never give it up for anything.
It's really all about how you personally react to the food. Depending on your degree of lactose tolerance, you may have significant problems with dairy or you may have none. For me personally, my one and only problem with drinking eight glasses of milk at a meal would be the 880 calories, not any other effect of what metabolizing that milk would do. I'm a mix of eastern and northern European heritage, though, so high lactase production is normal for my ethnicity, and I can enjoy all forms of dairy with no ill effects.
When you get down to it, it's irrelevant if it causes bloating in many people, it matters if it causes bloating in you. You are not "many people", you are one specific person.0 -
If you like it and it agrees with you, eat it!
For me, most dairy is a big No, because it doesn't agree with me. But I can - and do - eat cottage cheese and it hasn't stopped me from losing weight.0 -
I eat high-fat dairy, and I tolerate it very well. I eat a lot of hard cheese and high (10% or 11%) fat plain yogurt. I use full fat milk, and sometimes cream, in my coffee.0
-
if you have an issue with dairy, try almond milk maybe? there's a lactaid milk out there too that is good. i don't have a real dairy intolerance, but i prefer almond milk to regular. is much lower in calories, and i think it's tastier in my coffee.0
-
if you don't have allergies or otherwise have issues with dairy, there's nothing wrong with it. i love dairy.0

I've experimented with various diets including avoiding dairy (I remember being concerned with an acceptable level of mastitis white cells). I didn't care for plain soy, but vanilla flavored soy was a great substitute.0

Except people who like natto. Those people need Jesus.0 -
If cow's milk isn't a problem for you, drink it. If it is, try goat's milk - may not be available in the store but at a farmer's market. Almond milk is my fav plant-based, can't abide soy milk.0

I have to agree with this. I ... just can't understand it.
(I kid, I kid)
I tend to avoid milk itself because it bloats me, but other dairy products don't give me issues.
OP, if you have no issues? Enjoy.0 -
I think it depends on the person whether dairy works for them. If you are lactose intolerant then you can drink lactose milk (treated with an enzyme) or substitute almond/soy/cashew or another milk. I've been using more cashew and almond milk lately because I like it and it is lower in calories so helps me to stick to my calorie goal for weight loss.0

Although your body may not have any adverse reactions to dairy I would not endorse the consumption of it. Unless it is local grass fed; commercial cow milk is full of products and hormones who knows what their affects are. I would be very careful and attentive to ingredients and added fillers.0

Not shocking. My husband and I are both of good mixed northern/western European stock and neither of us nor our horde of beast children have any problems with dairy.
Lol... I'm going file that one away for future use!
You're welcome!0 -

Absolutely yes to dairy. Give me cheese, milk, butter, yogurt and ice cream please!0

Almond milk: cereals, coffee drinks
Soy milk: Mac-n-cheese, baked recipes
Rice milk: GODIEINAFIRE0 -
Dairy industries have done very bad things to cows in the past and present (I'm not a vegan, but don't drink dairy for this reason) There are other options like: almond milk, cashew milk, coconut milk. Try those before switching back. Don't forget just because one brand doesn't taste good doesn't mean it's not good product for others. (for almond milk don't get the skinny bottle since it's not a good flavor)0

Yes to dairy. All the dairy!
Except buttermilk. Because yuck.0 -

Anyone out there with 1. facts about the true evil powers of dairy or 2. product recommendations for substitutes that won't make me gag?
I really miss my afternoon Greek yogurt, and my cheddar with crackers with my wine. :-) Thanks!
There is nothing wrong with dairy at all, nor is there anything wrong with soy. If your gut doesn't like one or the other, then that is good enough reason to eliminate those foods. But, no food is good or bad in and of itself.0 -

@rabbitjb - I do indeed scone and cake. I pancake too. I even cottage cheese. But I don't buttermilk. God kills a kitten every time somebody drinks that nasty, clotted, sour stuff.0 -

It's an ingredient not a drink...who on earth drinks buttermilk? Is that even a thing?

Definitely NOT a thing for me. My dad used to chug the stuff, made me throw up in my mouth a little bit just watching.
As an ingredient, I'm down though.0 -
Ahh. Parental induced childhood trauma0

Trivia: in the middle ages, almond milk was often used instead of dairy milk because it kept better (and could be used during Lent).
I like almond milk and also dairy, though as ingredients rather than as stand-alone drinks.0 -

It's a drink here in Germany (I'm in Germany this week) - and even comes flavoured - less sour. More like a thick lassi.0
