Rude People

Am I the only one that uses google for my stupid/annoying questions?
Nothing to do with searching the message boards just google.
Or is it really that hard to type, look, click, read and then think about what you read?
You could have googled that response.0 -
Handy tip:
1) Spot someone being rude.
2) Click drop-down arrow near username/avatar.
3) Click on "ignore user".
I generally wait until I recognize a username for consistent rudeness. Then I target them for elimination. Ahhhhhhhhh; so satisfying! Everytime I see the message that I'm ignoring a certain user, I pretend it's a grave marker.
I did not know that. What an awesome tip. Thank you.0 -
Why are some of you assuming that I started this post because someone had a differing opinion than I? That is the only reason I view the threads, to get different ideas on things. I started this thread because I keep seeing replies that are posted only to hurt or belittle. This site is here to help people.
I've always wanted to know, why start a thread about this? Why not just reply to the post that bothered you in the actual discussion in which it occurred?0 -

Good idea.. I think I will.
EDIT: You'll never believe what the first listing on the search results page was?!

You started this thread because I posted a comment that was (while sarcastic) HELPFUL. You even said you read the link. Did I help?0 -

But the gifs are soooo compelling.
I can't stop watching
and frankly, I don't care what that says about me, I could use a laugh :drinker:0 -

because many of us who offer advice on this site in a blunt, honest and to the point way, that more often than not is of a differing opinion of the original poster of a thread have been labelled rude.
we've been called out, we've been singled out and our short, to the point, honest answers have now become synonymous with the word RUDE.
I'm rude....i've been told so, I've been sent snarky messages from people making VERY clear that saying
"control your portions, only you can motivate you, we can't do this for you"
is rude...it's rude, it's mean and it's belittling.
it's been made very clear that unless we hold peoples hands and pat their virtual heads saying "there there" we are rude and awful human beings.
so yeah....
apparently.
I'm rude.....0 -

Actually, this site is here to help me and it's up to me to use it to help myself. I'm not here to help other people unless I want to help other people, but nowhere in the terms and agreements did I sign on to be a beacon of hope and support to others. I never signed on to be a fitness guide, a dietitian or nutritionist. I never agreed to coach people on their day to day habits, view their diaries and offer advice...I may do that from time to time, but it's not part of the package. Logging my food, tracking my calories and macros and exercise...that's what this site is primarily for. I go to the forums to read, learn, and upon occasion, interact. I really don't give a flip if someone is rude to me or not, or if they are rude to others, or at least, perceived as being rude. I can click the back button and go somewhere else.0 -
How cute another mean people thread...
I was just reading another thread and the lady said we'd probably all get mad at her, but she made a good point, and she was right, she did get a lot of replies claiming she was rude. But I dont think she WAS rude, she was expressing her point of view.
What I personally find "rude" or whatever, maybe not rude, but something I dont understand, is when people brag about the junk food they can eat, and exclaim they can lose weight, and are like proud of it. And then give details about all the fattening food they eat. And then belittling others because the other person cant do it but they can, and it comes off as hard for those of us who are tempted by it. I dont get this. If we are trying to lose weight, then it sorta hurts when i read about someone bragging about all this food they choose to eat, it almost is like your out with 4 friends and your trying to eat your salad, and then your "supportive" freinds, all choose to eat a huge pizza, cheese dripping cheeseburger, and a big cream pie in front of you and its like hey we can eat this, tough for you! and then gloat about how the next day they lose 5 pounds after eating all that. so those posts are hard for me to comprehend what are they doing on this site? I dont get it.
Sounds like you're projecting your own issues on others.
Possibly yes, possibly no. Of course I can only speak for myself which is why I say how what I read makes me feel. Oh I can choose to reject how it makes me feel or absorb it, and feel bad. But in my mind I am thinking, why do people do that? Are they bragging or what? I just dont get it. Why do people need to gush about all the food orgies they have and how delicious it was? I dont get it.
They do it because they want to let others who are struggling to follow some extreme and unnecessary way that they don't have to. You CAN eat yummy and delicious pizza and still lose weight. You're taking it personal, like someone is shoving it into your face. They're not. They're trying to HELP. We see posts daily about cutting X food out of your diet to lose weight. Some of us here try to show that it's not necessary to restrict certain foods. You can have your cake and eat it, too!0 -

Good to know. I just went through this tread and recognized a few, followed your advise. Very satisfying.
Sorry, I was late to this thread...(and I'm still catching up.)
You'll probably want to go ahead and put me on that list too. I'm one of those people who care more about the content of the message than the style, tone, or phrasing of it...
...and apparently, at least on MFP, that's considered "rude".0 -

Sounds like a personal problem to me. People are not just here to lose weight. Just because some people can eat foods others can't doesn't mean they need to keep it a secrect. I love steak but can't eat it as it triggers my IBS but I am not going to get all upset because all my friends order steak at a steakhouse. The world has no need to accomodate you.
I totally agree.0 -
This is new to me. I have never ever seen anyone post this kind of topic before....Ever.0

I understand what you are trying to say here. I really do. I can't speak for others, but I post quite a bit about my love for pizza, bacon, ice cream, etc. It's not to belittle others, as everyone has the right to make this lifestyle change their own. However, I post comments like these to illustrate the fact that you don't need to deprive yourself to lose weight. If I were to cut everything I enjoy out of my diet (not the process--the foods I eat), I would be absolutely miserable and it would make the process not at all sustainable for me.
You need to find what works for you and do that. Eating the things I love, in moderation, works for me. I am proud of how far I have come and the methods I have used to get here. I have every right to share what has worked for me, as do you! There is nothing wrong with the way I am doing this, and there is nothing wrong with the way you are going about the process. This site (and my friends here) has helped me develop a better relationship with food, develop more mindful eating practices, lose weight, conquer my fitness goals and be a better "me".
There is room for all kinds here!
Ok that makes sense. I often bring up a point because I am new here, and not used to the way people are around here. I did read a response to MY point which ranged from "tough love and get over it" to your "I understand". You both are right. I suppose to be truthful, I'm following a way of eating that is generally fine for me, since I have to live with it, but however, part of me wants to eat some of the old stuff that got me fat. I suppose part of why it "hurts" is like , how come SHE can have that pizza and I cant" so it makes me feel kinda deprived. Then again, I think part of this website is to encourage - not discourage - each other and share information. So sometimes I perceive some of the responses to be a bit over the top and not helpful. some of us are struggling, - some harder than others.. but then i do see your point about the ability to eat something and not destroy our weight loss paths, which i suppose can be valuable in that way.0 -

Adini, projection is the Go-to response right after blame here on MFP. Oh, wait, she used projection and blame. Bingo.
^ Agreed. :ohwell: Sadly.

I never belittle, & I'm hardly ever rude, but I could see some people finding my humor obnoxious. I hope your experience improves.
This is pretty much me. I have a weird sense of humor, frequently err on the side of (attempted) funny, and while I crack ME up, I understand that others don't always agree.0 -

I'm just guessing here, but maybe because food is delicious? And assuming they have figured out a way to eat it in moderation within their overall plan, why wouldn't they share with their friends?
I know that when I have a delicious meal, I'll sometimes share it with my friends...and they do the same.

Is it just me or does anyone else find that there are a lot of rude, obnoxious, belittling people roaming these message boards? Most of the people posting questions here have legitimate questions and need help only to get replies judging them and belittling them. Grow up people.
For the most part people want to be helpful, the problem is a lot of people don't know how to help themselves. This day alone there was at least 2 other posts asking the same question you did. There are at least 1 or 2 a day. There are faq's and sticky's all over the place explaining all this stuff. A lot of these questions are ones being asked on a daily basis that have been answered on a daily basis. People get tired of doing it when the answer is already there.
It is called being extremely lazy and expecting instant answers. If only people would just take a little time to become familiarized with the site, we would not have the same questions being asked constantly.0
