Impatient weight loss

I can't help but be impatient when it comes to losing weight. I've only been trying for two weeks and I've lost nearly 9 lbs. I think that's amazing but I also see how much weight I need to lose and I feel overwhelmed. I realize this is a lifestyle change and I am 100% dedicated. Maybe I'm just whining but does anyone else feel this way? I've been dreaming of being thin forever, now that I'm putting it to practice I just want results.

You are whining. And being unreasonable. Best of luck to you.0

Yep... I have felt that way. Have lost 70lbs... but it has taken close to 3 years.
Patience and time, time and patience.

9lbs in two weeks is a lot. Remember that a lot of that will be water weight because you just started, and remember that it's going to slow down. If you're impatient now, how are you going to feel when you're losing at a normal rate (1 to 2 pounds a week)?
Slow and steady. It will happen.0 -
9lbs in 2 weeks? That's fantastic. You're definitely whining if that's not good enough for you and have extremely unrealistic expectations.0

*kitten* posting at its finest
@op we all do, but think of how fast time flies, and how every day, week, month is going to pass by even if you hold on or don't...
Just think of the amazing results and how much better life will be, its not that hard to do it..0 -
You are whining, but I totally get it. I'm pretty impatient; I want everything yesterday. This process has really challenged my patience and I have had many failures as I've had successes. That's how it is in reality. Be consistent and it'll happen.-1

I get it, so you better find a way to enjoy the enterprise. Because you will be at this for a while. Perhaps mini-goals will help.

Like someone else mentioned, time is going to pass either way. Make the most of every day. This time next year you could be at your goal weight, your current weight or weigh even more. The choice is yours.
If you truly want to succeed then giving up will not be an option.0 -

I get where you are coming from - I would love to drop 9lbs by tomorrow.
Or the end of the week.
Or by 01/01/2016.
It is extremely unlikely to happen - not in a healthy, maintainable way.

time is going to pass either way...instead of looking at how much you have to lose and getting overwhelmed by that, just think about where you could be a year from now if you're just consistent and patient. you just put one foot in front of the other...this day will pass and that day will pass and this week will soon be history and next month will soon be history...and ultimately, you have to wrap your head around the fact that there really is no finish line...getting to maintenance is just arriving at the starting line of the real race...this is a forever thing, so best to just get started.0

Sure we've all felt this way. Just don't let it cause you to do anything foolish.0

It took almost a year for me to lose the weight I wanted. And it will take the rest of my life to keep it off. Yeah, it sucks sometimes, but it's a tradeoff. Being overweight sucks more.0
-
All of you are amazing and so right about time passing either way. I won't give up!0

2.5 years and 116 pounds lost.
BUT...during that time I have...figured out what triggers my binges and learned how to avoid them, learned how to eat in a healthy balanced way, learned to love exercise, inspired many people in my life to take better care of themselves, learned how to really take care of myself, gotten off my blood pressure medicine and many many other things...
If I had just lost the weight quickly and not learned so much, I would just put the weight back on. I know from experience because I have done that twice.
Take your time, learn about yourself and make real changes so you won't ever have to do this work again.0 -
Only 17lbs in a year, but the healthy relationship I built between my body and food in the mean time was worth it! Get into a routine you can stick with, be very consistent, and time will start to fly by.0

Welcome to the world of weight loss. It takes me a month to put on 25 pounds, but 8 weeks to lose it - some one PLEASE explain to me how that's fair!!! LOL
Yes, you've lost a lot in your first two weeks. That's a lot, and congratulations!!! But the game's just begun. It's a long term process.
I have about 150-ish to lose, and if I focus on that number, I'll get blown out pretty easily. If I focus on 0-2 pounds a week, and wanting to get beneath the next 5 or 10 pound mark, it's a lot easier.0 -
Instead of focusing on how far you have to go, focus on how far you've come. For example, instead of saying "I've only lost 9 lbs", say "I've ALREADY lost 9 lbs!!"0

Your whining. But its okay, its common on Here-1

I wish I'd already lost double what I have lost since June, but I gotta accept that the change is coming along very slowly. The most important thing is to try and not get discouraged by your weight loss being non-linear! I know it's a huge problem for me if I see the scale staying the same or going up when I'm trying to lose, so that's a struggle every day that I get on the scale... Might be for you, too, but don't let it get you down.0
-
OP you need to reset your expectations fairly quickly...now that you have the water weight out of the way, it is unlikely that weight loss will be high each week going forward.
If you have a lot of weight to lose a reasonable weight loss per week is about 1lb to 2lb...some people lose more some people less.0 -
You've done AMAZINGLY WELL!
I completely understand the frustrations regarding weight loss and impatience. I get it. We all do. And for the record, I don't think you're whining - I think you're having normal, human reactions to the idea. It can seem really daunting especially in your mind you have a lot to lose so try and break your goals into smaller increments. Aim for something realistic like 5lbs a month and you'll eventually come to enjoy hitting your mini targets.
Good luck and keep doing what you're doing!0 -
I've lost that much in the far beginning. One week was 10 pounds hammering it on the elliptical machine and focusing hard on my dieting correctly.0
-
Big early losses include a lot of water.
And impatient dieters tend to end up even larger.
Try to just 'be here now' as the hippies used to say.0 -

Love this!!
Learning yourself is just as important as losing the pounds!!0 -
It takes time to create new habits. Keep that in mind and you'll be fine. When the goal is large sometimes it helps to break it down into smaller goals to keep from being overwhelmed and remember that every pound lost gets you to a healthier place!0

This ^^
If you're feeling impatient and overwhelmed by the amount you have to lose ... well, in comparison, I've only lost 6 pounds in the last two months and I've another 50 to go. Yes, the thought of how long this is going to take to reach my goal drives me nuts if I dwell on it. So for now I'm just thinking of the first stone (14 lbs).
