Drinking water

So this might be a bit of a dumb question but I keep seeing on the boards people recommending that you drink lots of water for weight loss...and to drink half your body weight in oz. I currently am starting at about 350lbs so for me that would be 175ozs. That feels like an awful lot of water to drink in a day! Is it really necessary for me to drink that much?

Agree, drinking water is for hydration, not weight loss. Drink what you need to stay hydrated. 175 oz sounds excessive and you'll always be in the bathroom.

I drink enough that I'm not thirsty, or don't eventually end up dehydrated. Right now it's about 64oz.0 -
Some people say that drinking a glass of water before meals makes you feel full faster...that's never worked for me lol
I vaguely recall reading that drinking more than a gallon of water a day is too excessive (unless into extreme sports). I've got kidney stones and the Dr has me drinking a minimum of 60 ounces of water a day. Depending on your medical situation you should ask your GP if he/she has a recommendation.
Check the color of your urine - if it is pale yellow you are doing good - the darker it is the more water you need to drink - and throughout the day makes it easier to do rather than guzzling at one time

Constantly running to the bathroom sounds like good cardio, and keeping water on hand helps me manage my hand-to-mouth habit. Other than that, you don't have to force yourself to drink water.0

If you're drinking other beverages and eating stuff with water in it (...pretty much everything, though especially fruits and veggies), then you don't need to get too hung up on consuming a ton of water by itself.
I aim for 40 ounces of water in a day. That, plus a cup of coffee and/or a diet soda, along with the food I eat, gets me up to ~60 ounces of fluid, which is about half my body weight.
Using thirst to guide you is a good option. I also keep an eye on the color of my urine; if it's pale yellow, I'm plenty hydrated. Darker and I need to up my intake a bit
