I'm so glad I didn't meet anyone like that at the gym when I started off. It would have broken my spirit and motivation.

You have to start somewhere. Many people on this site joined because of the community and because they started out overweight (or whatever there reason was), if you were healthy all your life or for a long period of time, you wouldn't be using this app so don't forget where you started. i am disappointed to see this type of negativity with this post, just my opinion.

People who worry about everyone else in a gym obviously have no focus. In a crowded gym or an empty one my thoughts are about form or the next set. So if you wanna make fun of Noobs, your outlook makes you just that in my opinion. #FOCUS!!!

Well, tomorrow will be my first day in a gym in about 8 years. I've committed to a year at the gym and 3 months with a personal trainer, so I definitely won't be fading out after 2 weeks. But I really hope everyone is decent to me and not snobby. It's hard enough being a newbie!

I like the 3:30-4 a.m. crowd. Everybody's dedicated. Nobody's judging. We're just there to work out. Strong sense of respect at the gym around 4 a.m., and very little bullsplit.

Join an Equinox where most newbies dont bother paying that much, and your gym will be much less crowded.

I don't really mind the new people. I could do with less arrogant power lifters who act like they own the gym, however.

The OPs attitude is what generally keeps me out of gyms, I'm too self conscious and people looking down their nose at me scares me out of them, which is why currently I run, outdoors...alone...at night. So glad everyone else here is calling them out.

Worth noting that all the new people who sign up to a twelve month contract but never go are actually subsiding everyone else's membership and keeping the fees down a bit.
