How do you prevent 'runner ****s'..you know... when you are running and you get the urge to poop while running , so you run faster.. and then when you finally get the chance to go , you can't stop, you get goosebumps and chills like you are gonna throw up, and like I said, there is no nice way to put this, your @-hole hurts constantly.. I ran a 5K this morning, nothing new, but the humidity was rediculous.. and midway through my run I felt the urge to go, and now I was late for work bc I couldn't get off the pot, and now I am getting cold chills and its very uncomfortable to sit if I've been standing a while.. I am almost certain I do not have any hemmrhoids.. help..

Doesn't sound like its the running....something you ate? And...any chance you might be pregnant? I'm only asking because this was my 26-y/o daughters first symptom. Diarrhea after exercising.0

Yikes, so I won't try running anytime soon.
Hopefully someone here can help you.0 -
Whew! That sounds brutal. I cant say I have experienced this, but here is a thread you can read and what works for other people!
Good Luck!

I always make sure I give myself enough time BEFORE my run to go. If I go before then I don't get the urge to go during.0

I just need to figure out how to prevent it.. ive never been like this from something ive eaten.. i tend to have a cast iron stomach and nothing really upsets it... thanks for the replies though...0

I know exactly what you are talking about. But I don't have a solution.:sad:0

If you drink lactose before you run you tend to get a "code brown". Make sure that you don't have any milk products (even if you are not lactose in tolerant) 2 hours before you run0

I'm almost wondering if it's some sort of dehydration related thing. Just theorizing.
Didnt eat anything spicy within the last 24 hrs prior did you? That messes me up something fierce.0 -
I know alot of runners who take anti diarreal medicine before they run. If you eat, wait 2 hours after you eat before you run. I know that's a pain, but it is something that runners deal with more than you might think. The fact that you are running makes things go quicker in your colon, so you end up having to poop really bad. You also get excess gas and cramps. I would give yourself plenty of time after you eat to run, and when you are done, definatley drink alot of water/gatorade. You should feel better a little while after, and if your body isn't used to it, ask your doctor if he can prescribe you something like dicyclomene. I take that, problem solved.0

Nope nothing spicy.. but I didn't even think about being dehydrated.. i drink lots of water but i just recently started drinkin coffee at nights and i know that its a natural laxitive AND a diruetic..hmmmm0

Could be the coffee for sure!0 -
Hey..
It's called the runners trots! I get it especially if i get dehydrated. Stay hydrated, avoid caffeine and sugar before runs...can happen if increase your mileage, too.
when it happens I feel horrible and drinking a coconut water helps alot with the eloctrolytes.0 -

Yes, running is really good for keeping you "regular!" Our Drill Sergeants in Army Basic Training would release us to the barracks for a few minutes (after we had run a couple of miles each day--up and down a small mountain) before we went to breakfast. There was always a race to see who reached the toilets first! I guess if we had run farther, it might have been worse....
Hope you got the answers you needed. :drinker:0 -
I have had a mild case of this... It only happens once in awhile and usually its when I havn't had enough water. Maybe ask your doctor, they might have suggestions.0

not every runner, but a lot of us--esp long distance runners. Many of my friends are affected when we start to get up there in mileage (15+ miles or so). Some runners can't control it ... hells, 2005 London Marathon winner Paula Radcliffe pooped by the side of the road when she started to cramp up. Fortunately, this is not one of my issues.0 -

You're kidding? She pooped on the side of the road?? How does that happen? Isn't it illegal?
You people are not making me want to become a runner!0 -
running is awesome and I have only had this happen maybe 3 times my whole life... please don't let this discourage you ...0
-
Not everyone has this issue, so don't let one person's situation deter you from running! It's a great way to exercise!
For the girl with runners tummy - yeah, I'd bring it up to your Dr. No doubt you are not alone.0 -
This happens to me pretty much every time I go jogging. My jogs are only 2.4 miles long but once I hit the 1 mile point and my heart rate is around 180 or higher, that's when I feel the urge. I have actually changed my jogging route so I can jog up to my friends house that is .95 miles away and use her bathroom! Something that I have found helps control the urge is following the Couch to 5K running plan. This keeps my heart rate down closer to 165-170. I am still working on being able to jog longer distances (further than 1 mile straight) and I'm not sure how far your jogs are but maybe trying interval jogging would help you? I've been having some serious issues with constipation for months now so I am actually relieved by my jogs .0

I am not a runner, but have heard about the adrenalin rush you get at some point. Well for me adrenalin = poop:blushing:
Dr tells me I have a hole in my heart: I almost shat the bed
So, could it be because you pushed thru the heat and 1st part of the run and your adrenalin kicked in?
Eh, just an idea or thought0 -

 Unless you are going to run in marathons.............do not give it a second thought.

I have the exact same problem. I always have to do a test run a.k.a. jog around my block real quick to get everything moving. That way if I feel the urge my house is right there. :blushing:
I only get like this with my long runs though 3+ miles. I think it's because of fiber. I usually eat fruit before I run because it gives me energy without the calories. But I know I have to find a new solution...it's getting annoying. :grumble:0
