Travis Barker is PHENOMENAL, and I love Tommy Lee, so...... #1 and #2 are all that really matter. ;)

Neil Peart, John Bonham are the top two, hands down. Followed by Keith Moon, Mitch Mitchell and Ginger Baker. Has any one mentioned Ginger Baker???

    Roger Taylor. (Queen)

Though I can live with him not being in the top 5.

I'm just waiting for the "Top 5 Rock Guitarists of All Time" - thread to mention Brian May.

The Drummers job is to keep the beat. So I think it's about what they're playing, who they're playing with. That's why I put Ringo on my list. And Bonzo at the top. Dave Grohl is awesome too. A top 5 list was tough, top 10 would be better.

Ringo didnt even play on 70% of the Beatles records. They used a session drummer.

That's actually not true at all, Ringo played drums on all but 3 or 4 songs recorded and released by the Beatles. Paul played on the others.

Ringo did get sick on tour once and was replaced for 5 concert dates.

ETA: Fun fact about Ringo. Thought he was a solid drummer, the one and only time he had a drum solo was on the last song of the last Beatles album. The End-Abbey Road.

    In order:

    1. Ginger Baker
    2. John Bonham
    3. Alex Van Halen
    4. Lars Ulrich
    5. Michael Cartellone

Ringo Starr should be in there as well. That's right, I said Ringo Starr. I know he is not as flashy, but he laid down the beat for some great songs with the Beatles. I saw Ringo and the All-Star band a couple years ago and was blown away by him.

Id go with Neil Peart, John Bonham, Alex Van Halen, Keith Moon and Tommy Lee.

Replace Tommy Lee and Keith Moon with Mike Portnoy and Dave Grohl and you've got yourself a pretty damn good list!

I think Charlie Watts is pretty underrated, but a very solid drummer.

I am not a drummer so I don't really feel qualified to comment on the quality of a drummer. To be honest I can only tell you if a song sounds good or not but I can't tell the difference between the subtle nuances of one drummer of a another.

I have seen a lot of drum solos and the most entertaining and the best sounding of those have been that guy from the foo fighters and the guy from blink182.

Travis Barker. I saw him play with the Aqua Bats as a kid. Holy crap that man was amazing

I didn't know about him at all until blink182 but I did see him live and it was absolutely amazing. I have no idea how much work he had to put in to get to that level but he was moving like lighting and it sounded just phenomenal.

EDIT: I wonder how many calories a drummer burns when the put on a solo at that level of the game. Maybe some of you that actually drum have done the math on it already.

Roger Taylor from Duran Duran should be on this list.

Agree with most of the others, though.

Neil Peart is hands down THE best drummer. Ever. In any galaxy. And I love the fact that we share the same last name...

Phil Collins was great before he replaced himself with a drum machine and started singing.
