Would you try it?
Small can of v8 low sodium mixed with muscle tech chocolate protein powder.
I want to start drinking v8 daily for all that potassium. And I have been falling short on protein lately. Also, any negatives in taking a 5oz can of v8 daily? Seems so easy. It was on sale at Costco.

In my opinion, if the low sodium version fits into your goals for the day I think it's okay. I wouldn't mix a tomato based juice with chocolate protein powder, that's a personal preference. And of course, getting your nutrients from whole foods is always best when you can do it, but if you're not going to do it any other way then drink the V8. Just watch your sodium level during the rest of the day.

I used to consume v8 regularly (the low sodium version) and never had a problem, I too found it a convenient and easy way to consume more vitamins from vegetables. That being said, while I enjoy the taste, I would never try mixing it with a chocolate protein powder. Chocolate dipped fruit may be a thing, but I wouldn't even add fruit juice to my protein powder. It MIGHT be good, just not something I'm willing to try because to be quite honest it sounds like a terrible combination o.o
If you try it let us know how it turns out though!

V8 with protein powder. Sure, I'd try it. V8 with chocolate protein powder? No way, no how.

    That sounds... abysmal.

Please do this and report back if you could actually finish that concoction.
  • If you're dead set on mixing protein powder with v-8 you might want to try vanilla or an unflavored version. I would not recommend chocolate though. It just doesn't sound very good.

I don't know if I could drink it after reading this. Nothing was positive. Wish I could take the question down. Regrets.

why would you want to take the question down? you had a legitimate question, you got legitimate answers. the answers just happened to be 'no way would i try that!'

    You can't give up now, too many of us are curious! I'm sure the person who decided to try chocolate and bacon together was also laughed at and told not to do it, but look what came of that! Who knows, you may be onto the next big thing - we're just all too scared to be the ones to take that first step! c;

I think there would be both flavour and texture issues with that combo.

I would drink the V-8, and then the protein powder mixed in water. Same benefits, same calories, no chocolate tomatoey beverage. ; )

I dislike protein powder, but I do put cocoa powder (not cocoa mix!) in chili (and I'm not the only one who does), so I don't think the tomato+chocolate combination is necessarily beyond consideration. If I had any V-8 around here, I'd try cocoa powder in it and report back. Well, if I hadn't already maxed my calorie goal for today, I would. Why not try it? What's the worst that could happen?

I'm thinking projectile vomiting for starters.

HaHA! I admit, that hadn't occurred to me. ;)

I've not done protein powders, but if there is dairy in there, I can see it curdling in the acidity of the juice. Hurk!

Cocoa powder is delicious in savoury foods but wouldn't protein powder be sweetened? That's the big turn-off to me.

That being said, OP, if it's something you're curious to try why not go for it? I mix V8 with cottage cheese and hot sauce and many people think that's totally disgusting, but I love it :D

There's no way. It sounds revolting. Lol
  • Ew. Now I'm curious.

It cannot be worse than adding veggie powder to protein powder. That has to be truly revolting. I'm just trying to make my protein shake a bit healthier. Flaxmeal or chia are not working.

No, I would not try it, as it doesn't sound appealing, and I don't like V-8. I'd much rather just eat vegetables. I use protein powder on occasion (maybe once a week when I have oatmeal), but I also usually prefer to get my protein from whole foods. If I was falling short of goal I'd probably incorporate it more, though.

If it sounds good to you, try it.

I do agree with those who say the chocolate + V-8 sounds like a really bad idea and would provide no benefit that you couldn't get from drinking them separately (mixing the protein powder with water).

What do you mean by flax and chia "not working?"

I would definitely try this with neutral or lightly vanilla protein powder. I keep several kinds of pp on hand for exactly this reason - so I can try different combinations of food pairings.

I like chocolate pp with oatmeal and raspberries, or banana and peanut butter.
