I have been doing LCHF for about 10 days and I have had some terrible headaches a couple of the days. I tested Keto, I am doing 40 net carbs. Do I just need more salt intake? Any suggestions would help.

  • You need to drink enough water - how much you drink now? Sleep enough and the headache will be gone in couple of days.

Salt indeed, and possibly lo-salt to get potassium and magnesium too if you're down on electrolytes. Too much water will make it worse through further sodium depletion. Phinney reckons a couple of grams more salt (or was it sodium) than your usual intake.

The headaches you are having are directly linked to your electrolytes which are currently out of balance (yes, you have the Keto flu). When you follow this way of eating (WOE) you need to get between 3000mg - 5000mg sodium EVERY DAY! I also suggest that you check out the main low carber forum group here on MFP. It's where most of us ketofiles hang out:

If you're doing keto, it could be the sweets/ carb withdrawals also. However, make sure you're getting enough sodium. If you're drinking lots of water that will deplete the sodium also.
