I'd ask how such foods can make sense in light of the theory of evolution - nothing makes sense in biology without the lens of evolution. I don't see why any living entity would have evolved to spend energy (calories) digesting something that it wasn't getting more out of it than it took to digest. It just doesn't make sense in that light.0 -
Yes, some foods have higher TEF. No, foods aren't negative calorie. Don't listen to Dr. Oz.

Dr. Oz is a joke... all the doctor shows on tv are. They feed misleading information to sell products and boost ratings. I saw an episode once where doctor Oz said "lose 10 pounds easy, just give up gluten...." hm yeah maybe if you have a gluten intolerance you'll lose ten pounds easy otherwise I don't think so.
Negative foods don't exist what does exist though are low calorie foods that pack tons of nutrients. Foods like spinach and celery have tons of nutrients but are low calorie which are great if you're in a calorie deficit because you can eats lots of them if you're hungry and not use too many calories.1 -

Dr Oz or salesman for the highest bidder as I like to call him Is stretching a thing called thermic food effect and trying to make it fit with what ever his latest venture is.
Ignore him and just keep logging your calories or start to if you haven't already0 -
I am extremely delighted that I live in a country where that charlatan does not grace our airwaves
Although we do have other satires available to us
And no such thing as a negative calorie food
Apart from dust of course0 -

There is no such thing as a negative calorie food...
Do yourself a favor and google "Dr Oz Senate Hearings"...then you can read all about how he was under senate investigation for scamming the public with his *kitten*. I think it all ended with the senators giving him a good dress down...unfortunately there wasn't enough there to put this *kitten* bag in prison.1 -

I was curious so I googled it. It looks like his guest was this author.

I clicked a link on the Oz site for Barnard and it said he's a psychiatrist. Kind of weird it doesn't mention that on the Amazon page or on Barnard's own sites. He's written a lot of diet books, for a psychiatrist. Maybe self-help books from his own field don't sell as well.0 -

Turn off Dr. Oz. That man spouts nothing but nonsense. All foods have calories. Negative calorie foods are a myth.0

It is not "legit." At all.0

Based on the little bit I did see about it, the guy's food recommendations ARE going to be low cal, filling foods, which are good for keeping your intake low. He's pushing high fiber, high water, low fat produce. So if it appeals to you, go for it! It won't be 'negative calorie' but it'll be low cal.

No I didn't see it, are these foods supposed to suck the calories out of you?
That sucking sound may be the $$ leaving your wallet if you are gullible.0 -
Jerry Springer is more reliable as a diet advice source than Dr. Oz.1
-
Is he talking about eating tapeworms?0
-
Nope, there are no negative calorie foods............except water.
Gimmicks and hype.
All it really is, is tracking all calories accurately and eating less of them than you burn.
Simple, but never easy.

And even then they just substitute with gluten free foods which are just as high in calories as their glutenous twin.
OP listen to the others. Dr. Oz is good for one thing - a laugh.

I don't think this was a serious post....0

Dr. Oz is a Quack. Hey @rabbitjb your in Britain, right? I used to get this weight loss show on BBC America where they would follow someone for a week, make them go poo in a tupperware, tell them what was wrong with their poo, and put them on a diet and exercise plan. I loved that show. That one and the two old birds that help hoarders clean their houses and analyze the germs in their house.0 -

I agree with many others...Dr Oz is a no no and no such thing as negative calories.
Maybe some time ago Dr. Oz was legit, but I think the fame and fortune got to him.0 -
I saw a show in London that really convinced me how different our cultures were about certain topics. A doctor's booth was set up in the middle of the street and people were invited to come in and speak with a medical professional about anything that might be troubling them, provided they were willing to appear on the show. Not a bad premise, as a doctor's appointment can be expensive and time-consuming, and this provided them with instant answers and/or advice.
One lady walked into the booth having trouble with her - let's just say "Exit Door" since I don't know what will be censored.
She dropped trow and spread cheek - and they showed everything. I promptly changed the channel.
Now, I get that the British sense of shame and nudity is different from US standards. HOWEVER - this woman said that the reason she hadn't gone to her normal doctor was because she was too embarrassed. Too embarrassed to go to a private doctor's appointment, but she happily went on a national television program (which revealed her face, first name, etc...)? I was so confused.
(To avoid derailing, I will say that Dr. Oz says a lot of common sense things... but if it's old and proven, it's probably already somewhat common knowledge. If what he says is new and different, he's probably speaking out of his "Exit Door".)0 -
I like some British TV. Love AB Fab. Heard they were doing a new movie. I also liked the original Trading Spaces on BBC, and if you don't appreciate Fawlty Towers...I guess I like the old stuff.
Of course, I also watch a ton of subtitled anime and get Japanese humor which is REALLY different from American humor. My husband has to leave the room when its on. So maybe I have questionable taste?0 -

^^LOL, Thanks, it has been a dismal day I needed a laugh!
I am pretty sure there are plenty of people that would do it here in the USA, but the networks wouldn't broadcast it due to censorship issues. Cable networks maybe would, but I don't know, there are some limits, even for them.
