For those of you who are following the EM2WL lifestyle, I'm interested in hearing your thoughts, recommendations, suggestions, stories, etc. I just happened upon this group yesterday and I'm intrigued! What they're saying makes total sense. Yet my old school mentality of eat less to lose weight is getting in my way!!

Would really appreciate your feedback!

Thanks!
Melissa

Listen to some of their videos. I've been reading their blog for a long time and have come away with a few things that I have incorporated ...

Things I have learned from EM2WL
    1. You need to find your correct TDEE based on true activity levels. You need to faithfully and accurately log both your activity and your food intake. Even if you use those TDEE calculators to get the TDEE you want to start with, you will need to track to determine what your own one truely is. You do this by verifying what happens to your weight over a period of time.
    2. If you have followed a low calorie diet for a long time, you need to do a 'reset' to get your body used to more calories. You do this by only changing your calories up or down by 100 or so a week.
    3. You can base your daily calories on either method of the same amount every day whether you are working out heavy or not and it will balance out during the week. Or, you can eat lower calories on the days you do not work out and then eat back some of your exercise calories on the the days you do work out ... at least 1 hour, heavy weights.
    4. If you are cutting calories, do so for a short period of time, say 6 weeks, then eat at maintenance for 2 - 4 weeks before you cut again.
    5. You cannot build muscle at the same time you cut fat ... it's one or the other, per the body builders I've read talking about it. Therefore, a lot of them do something called 'cycling' calories. Gain weight while building muscles and then cut fat while cutting calories. Doing heavy weight lifting while building muscles and doing heavy cardio while cutting calories.
    6. A lot of the people I've read on the group pages are already at good healthy weights and are trying to sculpt their bodies or trim to leaner body fat percentages ... like 8% instead of 12%.

For me, since I have over 50 pounds to lose, have a huge store of body fat to trim, and do no body building strength/weight training, I follow what I can of it.

    Good luck

yes, there is a group but havent seen posts in awhile,I know for me I wasnt losing at low amounts of calories even at 1400,1500,etc I stalled for 6 months,I went back to eating around 1800 and am losing, not a lot but I am losing a little here and there. I have my mfp set to lose .5lb a week and some weeks its less than that but a loss is a loss.all I can say is try it for a few months and see if it works for you. everyone is different.I lift weights and do little cardio, but thats just what I do.
