Does your face look older after losing a lot of weight?

Is it normal for someone to get more wrinkly or have more lines once they lose some of the fat on their face? Can this result be minimized?

Thanks for the input.

I'll take no answer as a resounding no. Hey, that's good news! :-)
  • it might for some. genetics seems to play a big part in who looks older after losing weight, and who doesn't.

Yes it's normal, your face skin stretches round the fat, just like your body skin does so once you lose weight, the face skin has less filler and therefore more wrinkles.

I'm not sure you actually have more wrinkles than you would have done without the weight, just that you are used to them being less obvious.

You can use moisturisers and treatments to lessen the effects but ultimately, you need to give your skin time to shrink back and also accept the less filled version of yourself.

Personally, I prefer my new wrinklier face to my old fatter body any day!

It depends how long it takes you to lose the weight.

Me at 42. 80 lbs lighter. Weight seems to add years. Hydrate your skin and exercise. I think I look younger now than I did then for sure.

I have a little loose skin under my chin, but I think (and hope) that I"m the only one who is really cognizant of it...

You look young for your age definitively, but much younger in the first picture.

Losing weight gave me less of the "mom" look, which made me look younger. However, my wrinkles definitely gained definition.

Depends on many things. Age, genetics, how fast the weight came off, how elastic your skin is.

For some reason I always got mistaken for a 25-30 year old when I was 16 and overweight. Now that I'm 20 and healthy, people think I am 16. I have no idea why!

In my case, only if I get too thin.

Too much body fat makes me look older. Too little makes me look older. In the middle is my happy place.

IMHO, if you are 50 and above, and lose a LOT of weight, then yeah, you will likely look haggard. Other than that, losing weight takes years off most people's faces.

    YES!
    But it adjusts
  • I look older, but it's because it gets rid of my baby fat cheeks. I look super young if I have fat cheeks so I'm happy with the "older" look. I still look younger than my age, just not 10 or 15 years younger.
