I'm thinking about running a marathon in late October. I am currently up to 14 miles for my long run. Do you think I would be able to train up to run a marathon? Is anyone else training to run a marathon in October? I would love to share stories, training strategies, etc.

    I am.

    What's your total weekly mileage?

With those long runs and your weekly mileage October should be no problem. Pull up one of Hal Higdon's training plans and map it out. As long as you are careful not to push too hard too fast you should be in great shape!

I guess I just need to take the plunge and sign up and then there is no turning back.

That is plenty of time. My marathon is in early October and my Hal Higdon plan only has me running 12 miles this Sunday (30 for the week). This will be my first marathon. My first half was in January and I started running last fall.

    Have fun and good luck!

  • Hi there,
I'm running a marathon every month from August onwards. I follow Hal higdon's plan and run around 26 miles each week. Feel free to add me :)

I'm training for the Nike Women's Marathon this October! My long run this week is only 10 miles - running a half marathon at the end of this month, too. :)

Yep, you should be fine. I follow Hal Higdon's Novice 2 training schedule and I'm doing the Chicago Marathon in mid-October. This will be my 2nd marathon...

I'm registered for a marathon in October and am using Hal Higdon's Intermediate I plan. I'm on week 4 and the total distance for the week is 29 miles.

Wow! Lots of us will be running marathons around the same time. I just printed off Hal Higdon's Intermediate 1 program. I will start immediately. Just curious what you all do for cross training. I have been biking but I don't feel like it is a very good workout.

Not much time for cross training when you are running between 60 and 90 miles per week. Maybe a little yoga, time permitting.

I think I am ... I am returning to running after a hiatus and my marathon is scheduled for Sept 22nd. This isnt my first marathon but I am getting varied opinions about my ability to get back up to speed by then.

Biking is a great way to work on cardio without pounding your joints into the ground. The key is to do it with intensity. With that said, marathon training is marathon training. You have to put in the miles.

I would recommend LOTS of core work to help maintain form as you fatigue. Planks, planks and more planks.

I'm training for the Nike Women's Marathon on Oct. 20th. My run club is Nike Run NYC and their marathon training is in sync for the NYC marathon. We're doing about 11 miles on our long runs right now. For cross training I strength train and also do Nike Training club, which is a HIIT workout.

The plan I am following has me cross training on Mondays. Should I not cross train and run on that day too?

Maybe I am not biking hard enough. I guess I need to push myself harder.

If it has cross train on Monday, then you would only cross train. If it says to run and cross train, then you would do both.

Can I find the Nike HIIT workout online? Otherwise would an Insanity workout suffice?
