Juice plus diet

I started the JP diet 3 weeks ago starting with a 2 week detox and for the last week shake replacements for breakfast and lunch.

Keep up the good work. I never could do a detox properly and so youre an inspiration. I'd still suggest that you keep having some solid food maybe high protein at least once a day if you're feeling weak or something.

Horrible idea...if you can't live like that for the rest of your life (and you can't), what's the point? You are not learning neither healthy eating nor portion control...so when you start eating normally again...anything you lose (it's mostly water either way) is coming right back. Quick fixes don't work. And if your kidneys and liver function your body doesn't need any kind of 'detox'...and if they don't work...those kind of 'detoxes' wouldn't help...since they don't really do anything.7

If and when you are done with the fasts ease in to your normal diet and increase your workouts. You should be fine. But yes the beautiful woman has a point that its not a lifetime idea. So tread carefully0

Ok so a lot of negativity about juice plus on here.
I would just like to note that I am eating solid food twice a day. Calorie controlled clean meals with no processed products or Enumbers.
My calorie intake is around 1200 a day which is sufficient and I'm also hitting all my recommend vitamin intake.

You're eating 1200cals and it doesn't matter in what form. You could put it all in the blender and drink it. I just don't see the difference, personally, as far as weight loss is concerned. I just don't see why you'd want to do it unless it is easier/tastier/cheaper.3

How is your weight loss plan helping you learn lifelong habits to keep the weight off? Do you plan to drink your breakfast and lunch for the rest of your life?
A detox is totally not needed - your liver and kidneys detox your body for you. Detoxes are just a way for big companies to make money off of desperate people.

Agreed. Absolutely NO need for a detox. That's just marketing hype. If that sort of thing actually worked long-term, no one would be overweight.
So, you lost 9lbs of water weight. That happens eating less food, too. 1200 calories is not the magic number for weight loss.....
I wish people would stop following bogus advice and lean more towards science. -_- Why don't people read the stickies? There are no crazy food rules involved with weight loss.0 -
You're all being very critical - if drinking juice is what helps the poster keep to her calorie limit, then that's great. It's just a choice she's made about what she wants to eat/drink. I've lost 25lb since Christmas having a smoothie every day for breakfast, because it's setting me up well for the day and is keeping me focused, and it's also easy to make if I run out of time to cook dinner. I know it's not a magic bullet, but it's working for me. Lay off the OP, please!4

Talk to us in a year. If you've continued to lose weight and kept it off let us know. Otherwise, yes, very critical and will continue to be so.0 -

Well done on your weight loss, if this is working for you then keep doing it. I think if we all look at our diets we do something a little differently to others. Without knowing how much you've got to lose, may be this way will give you the motivation to just eat healthy & exercise in the future as you see the changes in yourself & think long term.0

Who is it that brainwashed people to believe they need a detox. It's so strange. I was obese I needed to lose weight I cut down my calories and did some exercise.

If this is sustainable, meaning she can do this "juice plus" thing forever, then more power to her. But it doesn't sound sustainable to me. And when she's done, what will she have learned about eating properly, about portion control, etc. Nothing.
That's why so many people who do these juice fasts/detoxes, etc. end up gaining all the weight back, and then some.
So THAT'S why we're being critical. And the OP can listen to us or not. But maybe there's someone lurking who hasn't started any half-assed juice program yet, but is thinking about it, and will read this thread and say, "Nah. I'll just eat the foods I love at a caloric deficit, because that is something I can do long-term".

She didn't say she's eating two meals. She said she's eating solid food twice a day. Does that mean two meals? Or does it mean an apple and a piece of toast? Or something in between?
She says she's meeting her calorie requirements. Is that from the juice or from food?0 -
OP, if you like juicing and it helps you meet your calorie goals, that's fine. But it doesn't have any magical weight loss properties of its own, apart from helping create a calorie deficit.0

People that hang around on weight loss support groups I thought were meant to be well you know supportive of there fellow weight lossers. Instead I'm being kicked around the playground for using the work 'detox'
Well maybe I should have been a little clearer about my 'Detox' I have IBS and Intolerance to wheat and dairy and still eat them as I love cheese and bread.
So my detox was
No wheat
No dairy
No alcohol
No processes food contains words I can not pronounce or containing Enumbers
No process sugars
Ow silly me for not realising that cutting this produces from my diet was a bad thing, that eating clean and fresh foods for two weeks means being stupid about how I diet1 -

Yes you should have been clearer. That is not what was said in your OP. You said you were on a detox for 2 weeks. So if these things impact you why only eliminate them for 2 weeks.

You didn't post any of that in your OP so anyone lurking may read that and think "That is what I HAVE to do to lose weight too!" Which is absolutely not true. I have no aversions to any of things you you listed so juicing is completely unnecessary for me. I enjoy smoothies but I am someone who would rather eat their calories than drink them.0

I am not sure why there are so many negative comments. Juice and smoothies are a great way to pack in some nutrients and cals for a quick meal or snack, especially if you are someone who struggles with skipping meals due to lifestyle. I work 3rd shift and juice/smoothies are nice post work especially if I want to have something but head to bed soon after, it is easy hydrating and easy to take on the go.
I am sure many people use the term detox, a process or period of abstaining, when eliminating processed foods, alcohol and caffeine or foods they do not feel are serving their bodies well. There are physical and mental aspects of "detox" Just because we have these ideas of fab lemonade cleanses in our minds when we think of the word detox doesn't mean it is a naughty word we ought to avoid at all cost. You must abstain in order to allow you body to go through its process and if increasing your water or juicing or eating clean to crowd out your cravings helps go for it.2
