This will never happen.
I wish they'd change her a little, maybe not as much as the article shows but that's just my opinion.
What do you guys think?

i think it's ugly and i'm glad it's not likely never to happen.0

I actually found the shorter, fatter doll to be more attractive. So much more proportionate. And she has a fine azz. Must be doing squats0
-
I'd get one for my kid.0

I think she looks depressed... and depressing.
I still don't understand why girls are looking to Barbie to be their role model... are women in these girls life that lacking that she has to resort to a plastic doll? I played with Barbie and still collect the dolls (the more expensive ones though) and I never looked at her as something to aspire to... I saw them as dolls that allowed me to be creative.0 -
It's. A. DOLL.
Who cares what Barbie looks like? Who cares if she's tall and has a tiny waist? She's a DOLL.
I laugh at how people go all over her "unrealistic body proportions". Again, it's a DOLL. I played with Barbie when I was growing up and not once did I ever look at my doll and think "Man. I really wish I looked like her. I mean she's got EVERYTHING! I super hot blonde boyfriend, a really awesome mansion, this cool pink corvette and my goodness! If she wants to rough it in the wilderness she has this awesome camper that's comfy and has all the amenities! I bet it's because of her body. I bet she's a kept woman. Oh how I wish I could be barbie and live in a perfect pink house and drive a pink corvette!"
Barbie was never my role model. Ever. She was a doll that I played with and threw into trees and up onto the roof.
And who are these people who say that Barbie is a 'role model'? I bet if you asked any little girl who their role model is Barbie would not be one of them.0 -
It's just one more thing that our kids get shoved down thier throat.
Back in the day Barbie was a pretty girl, because of her make up and pretty hair and pretty clothes.
I guess things like this bother me becuase my 5 and 7 year old come home and tell me they are fat and need to lose weight and can't wear "fashion" clothes as they call them becuase they are fat.
I keep my weightloss issues to myself, I talk about eating healthy, but fat talk is not allowed in my home. So they get it from other places and it breaks my heart.
They are 5 and 7 for cripes sakes.0 -

I agree with you and I empathize with that.. it terrifies me to no end that my DD will come home to say such things as well.. it has since before she was born... But it's not because of the doll... They get it from media and friends (who get it from people of influence in their lives, be it older sister, mother, even fathers, grandparents, etc,)... And now with everyone in media focusing on the "obesity epidemic" and "get thin quick" etc... it's really hard to ignore it short of turning the TV completely off and banning magazines... Sure there is a woman or two that aspires to look like Barbie, but they are not the norm...0 -
Why does Barbie now look like a lifter? They made her neck so thick... lol . Can't these ppl do anything right? Shorter, Smaller head, bigger waist, bigger feet... It's not rocket science...0

I agree 110% with all of this - also, it was hilarious :-)
When I was a little girl I played with Barbies for many hours. But my role models were Cyndi Lauper, Molly Ringwald, and the nice 20-something lady who worked at Waldenbooks (so much so, that I worked at the same store in college LOL). Not Barbie!
I think there probably ARE little girls who idolize Barbie's look but often those same girls are probably being raised by psycho moms who also emulate Barbie and constantly preach the importance of being skinny and blond and so on. So that would happen even if Barbie was totally transformed and/or never invented!!0 -
Unrealistic... she still has thigh gappage and no stretch marks
On a more serious note, i had both barbies and cidys, it never did me any harm and dosnt make me have body issues.... Im fat, i know im fat, looking at a plastic doll didnt make me think im fat... looking in a mirror at myself made me think i was fat!0 -

Last I checked, my neck was the same width as my head. I was also taught that in a drawing class.0 -

I'm an artist and that's totally correct.
Her neck only looks weird because people are so used to incorrect proportions due to photoshop (and Barbie) that honestly they don't realize what people look like. It's a sad world.0 -
Also, lifting made her bulky.0

I love this. I think Barbie could be more relatable and "human" looking.0

They already did change her a little...when they made "Bratz" dolls. but then everyone complained they were too "sexual" looking.
BTW, isn't that just "Skipper"?
and also I love the first comment that said it looks like barbie had a few kids and went through a divorce. Haylarious.0 -
Poor Barbie! Everyone is always bashing her because she has a different body type. Shouldn't we be accepting rather than trying so hard to change her? Poor Barbie is going to get a complex about her body!0
-
I like the proportions on Barbie's "makeover" body, but the fact that she has no neck bothers me.0

Okay well now I have a problem. If I ever have a daughter no way I'm letting anything with an azz that can compete with mine in this house! It's the only leverage I got in here. There ain't room in this town for two badonk's.0 -

Yes. I agree with this. I grew up with Barbie, I would not change her at all.0 -

I'd be depressed too if I didn't have a neck. WTF are they thinking? Making her look more like an "average" woman doesn't mean making her look like a freak.0 -
I don't know what you guys are talking about with the neck thing. I think the new Barbie looks fantastic. I LOVE it! She looks great. She looks healthy. I WISH they'd do this. My daughter doesn't like dolls, including Barbies. She's a tomboy. But the media has gone nuts, and it includes the Barbie dolls. Or rather, the Barbie dolls just mirror the ridiculous image displayed by the media as perfect.0

I actually like the realistic one better in some ways. I think Barbie could do better to make a more realistic doll. But I don't think THAT realistic is necessary.
I think the face and legs look much better on the realistic doll, Barbie has too flat of legs. But the waist and hips should be slightly more defined. (I can imagine clothes just falling off without a slightly more defined waist).
Also, the designer didn't take into account barbies Pose... Its like looking at someone who's slumping and someone standing with their shoulders back chest forward. Barbie being the later. I think the realistic one would look much better if they had put her in the same pose. Also, Every barbie I ever had had 'high heal' feet... not flat footed.
Also, I want to know what they used as a 'average'. I mean honestly, they don't HAVE to make the doll a rectangle shape, (witch I am but still). It can have a hourglass and not be 'unrealistic'. Also, Who has that kind of butt?
But maybe I'm the only one who looks at it and thinks about how they could of done the demonstration scientifically and artistically better lol.
Edit: To continue on this, The neck on the realistic doll is fine, but her head is faced forward and looks glued in place like Ken (I always hated that), unlike the real barbie who's head can move and in the photos her chin is pointed up.0 -
I LOVED barbies growing up. They were like the only thing I ever asked for. But I do not recall ever once thinking about her body, and that I should aspire to look like her. I think people are really overreacting. It's parenting (or lack thereof), surroundings, and experiences, that help mold a child's self esteem and personality. I've also never met someone who said "I've got this bad image of myself because of barbie". Lol. The only thing I hated about barbie was that you could never cut her hair into a bob without it looking totally crazy. Now I cut hair in real life0

I kinda agree with the pose. Except, in the 7th picture where they show the profiles, Barbie looks like she's sucking in her stomach and sticking out her boobs whereas the new one looks pretty much like any normal person standing straight.
But I think the "new" Barbie looks so much better, and honestly? My booty kinda looks like that. I'm not perfect, and my thighs tough unlike this Barbie, but I have a pretty flat waist but a booty. Part of it's genetics, but if I didn't do squats and deadlifts and lunges, genetics would have made my butt not only big but flat with giant thighs.
ANYwho, I really think the second barbie, the new one, minus the thighs that still don't touch, looks a lot like I do.0 -
I don't think most people notice how real Barbie looks until someone points it out...I always just thought of it as a doll, never expected it to be like a regular person. Regular dolls don't look like regular people either, their heads are enormous and creepy.
I am wondering if it's easier to change Barbie's clothes because of the way she's shaped? I don't know for sure, just a thought that's possible.0
