    i assume they are required by some sort of anti-money laundering law. if you can't prove where it came from they can't prove its legit. you have our criminals to thank for this.

    Not a realtor....and this is what the finance company is telling her. They said they have to see where the money has been in the checking account prior to starting the selling process

    That happened to me when we bought our house just 5 years ago. Mine was from a 401k but they did not ask for proof, I just had to write an explanation of where it came from. I imagine it won't be that easy for you but that is my only experience in that type of situation.

    I find it really stupid myself.....as long as they have the money the bank shouldn't care if it came from aliens or if it was buried in the back yard.
