Have you joined the Low carb group? That's where most of the ketoers hang out

@Cristin260 welcome to MFP forums. There are several MFP groups eating the way you are that you may want to join. Below is one where I am learning a lot of details. Best of success.

I've done Ketogenic before, maintained for 5 weeks but decided to introduce more carbs as I am a big runner and gym go-er and found my energy for exercise was below zero. But appetite control is awesome for this diet, I never craved anything. Unfortunately I found once I stopped being so strict the second I had anything sweet, like even one lolly, my brain went mental and I wanted to eat everything sweet or full of carbs - I never ever do this so I found it quite an extreme physiological response to the pressure I was putting my body under. I have this under control now, but probably went on like this for a few weeks after the Ketogenic eating.
When you start ketogenic you have to be very strict with knowing exactly how many carbs you are eating. Eating less than 60 carbs a day should get you into ketosis where maximum fat burning happens, but this can take a few days to get into and in those first few days you pretty much go through a withdrawal from carbs which makes you depressed, hungry, cravings etc. Then you get into ketosis and you'll notice no cravings, no hunger, etc. But the second you stop and eat something higher in carbs your ketosis will stop and you will have to go through this withdrawal again - so it's definitely not worth cheating even for a one mouthful!!
Results were good, I am quite muscular as I train a lot but had some fat over my muscles, so I definitely leaned up with this diet. I have maintained this leanness by keeping low carb but not extreme and having more protein in my diet.
Best thing was that it trains you to want to eat more protein and look for it in your diet. Now when I eat I create protein as the focus of my meal and then pair things around it. I also understand fully how many carbs are in each type of food, so still stick to a low carb diet around 100 carbs a day but not extreme. So now I never eat raw sugar, fruit, excess milk, etc. and have replaced with almond milk, low-carb bread, low-carb fruits/small servings of fruit.
Good luck on your journey!!0 -
KETO! I have been a YO-YO for many years. I have always gotten to the point of feeling restricted. I have tried many diets. Keto is so far successful. Its a beautiful cross paleo and Akins. After the first two weeks( Keto Flu) my energy levels are out the roof! I have not hit the gym but yet not the type to sit on the couch. Yes It is a learning experience. The whole net carb thing is a bit confusing. Natural food fiber is your best friend. Make sure you know your Macros. 75% fats/20% proteins/5% carbs. I am taking some Vitamins for missed nutrition. My go to fat and safe carb is avocado! Love those little green things! LOL... Feel Free to add me. 4 weeks ... 28 pounds lost and feeling better then I ever had!.0
