Damn those headphones are expensive. Always wanted a pair of Bluetooth headphones but I can't justify the price for now.

Ya, the reviews are not surpurb. I still think I'll give it a go, since I really just want it for running music. Which is near asinine spending 300 for wireless earphones. I'm sure I can send it back if it's awful.

Got in 4.2 miles in the rain today. My GPS lock was a little sketchy at first, and logged about 1/10th of a mile less than it should have. I felt like I was moving at a decent pace, then saw the 11+ time and hadn't reached the mile buzzer yet (still almost 1/10th away! Ugh!). But then I realized I had already passed the point that it normally marks as one mile on that route. Probably just a function of it being a cloudy, rainy day.

The run was entertaining, anyway. I normally hate running through water puddles, but I accidentally stepped in one within the first two minutes of my run. From that point, it was game on. Lots of puddles, a little mud (but not too much, since I was wearing my road shoes and didn't feel like falling down). It pretty much stopped raining at about the 2.5 mile mark. Boo!

Anyway, now I sit at my desk with wet hair. What my coworkers must think...

How many miles is that? I will go back and look...

    Edit: 28.2 miles this month.

Got my run in early. I feel kind of silly saying that I am tapering, since there really was no real hard core training involved, but I guess I still need to give the legs a rest. As it stands, I think we are currently looking to be in the neighborhood of 4 and a half hours of running for the Pig, so that in itself is quite a big demand to put on the body, and I would be lying if I said I'm not at all worried. I am going to treat these next two weeks the same way I would treat any marathon, with some hard core tapering and carb loading. Aside from the taper madness part (which, fortunately, is self-cured by the absence of hard core training), that's the best part anyway, so why not enjoy it, right? May take the pup out for a little run later today and then have some ice cream for dessert :)

@lporter229 Is Flying Pig also May 1/April 30 weekend? So many big races that weekend!! We're gonna be reading lots of race reports in early May (you for FP, me for NJM, and Ohhim for Pittsburgh)! I also just stoked up on ice cream for "carb loading" (aka: taper treats!).

@moyer566 great pictures, love the last one LOL
@elise4270 I have a friend who love Bose. I still can't get past the price, maybe if like you I worked somewhere noisy and would wear them all the time it would be worth it.
@ceciliaslater isn't it fun to run in puddles, just like when we were kids!

I'm trying to decide if 11 weeks is enough time to train up for a half....Those of you who follow me on Strava and know my running, feel free to give me your thoughts.

Ya. I'm keen on not having to carry an mp3 player or run my phone down for music. So really hoping these all in one smart earphones work. I've some funds stashed away. And why not, I'm needing something for me post birthday, presurgery.

Definitely. If you can run 6mi right now, you can stretch it to 13. With a slower pace, but it's 90% mental. 11wks is a solid amount of time to train. Just focus on building distance.

@kristinegift -Yep. It's May 1st. Big weekend for racing. My goal is to make it across the finish line along side my friend, however long that may take. I am looking forward to it because it is such an energy charged event. I hate not participating in it in some capacity. Didn't really expect to be doing the full, but...

Anyway, that is your BIG race weekend too, right? Definitely pulling for you! You and Ohhim will have your race reports written up before I am even finished! I am just hoping the weather cooperates. That's the worst thing about spring races...you never know what you are going to get. Hopefully it won't be too hot. Cincy, Pittsburgh, New Jersey...we are probably all going to be watching the same forecast all next week!

Definitely leaning toward doing it. Last long run was 8.2 miles, and a good pace for me at 11:00/mile

Oh you're set man. With the race day adrenaline, you can easily stretch it 4-5mi. But get you're long run to 10-11mi. And the half will be a breeze.

I went from my first 10k to a half marathon in 8 weeks. So you can definitely do it in 11 weeks. Not saying it will be a cake walk, but that should be sufficient time. Most say the minimum long run distance you need to run is 8 miles to have the aerobic capacity to go for a half. Not sure I would recommend that jump from 8 to a half. But since you have 11 weeks...no problem.

Due to a miscommunication about whether or not the kids had school this morning I did not get my morning run in. So I fit in a lunch time 4 mile run. It was 72 degrees and full humidity and I felt that. Turned into a full on tempo run according to the HR data!

    4/1 - Rest
    4/2 - 14 miles
    4/3 - 5 miles
    4/4 - 5 miles
    4/5 - 5 miles

    4/10 - 5 miles
    4/11 - 5 miles
    4/12 - 5 miles
    4/13 - 8.3 miles

@lporter229 It is indeed! And there won't be a race report up too soon... 2-3 of my teammates and a ton of running store buds are all running so we're definitely getting brunch/beer afterwards! I have been checking the weather every morning. Goes from cloudy to 40% chance of rain to cloudy... but relatively stable temps so I hope it stays that way. I watched the Boston splits yesterday and got nervous thinking about how MY race could also be hot (a late April/early May gamble!), and how that would wreck my BQ goal!

All this talk of marathons is making me desperate to do one next year!

@MNLittleFinn I ran my most recent half marathon on only 13 weeks training, and I was starting pretty much from 0 after injury, so if I can get there then you definitely can - your base is much stronger than mine was!

Most say the minimum long run distance you need to run is 8 miles to have the aerobic capacity to go for a half. Not sure I would recommend that jump from 8 to a half.

I'm really surprised by that @WhatMeRunning, I can't imagine running a half after only having run 8 in training. Does that mean the benefits to running 10/11/12 miles in training are really just psychological?

Anyway, after cutting my long run short on Sunday I decided to add a couple of miles to my run today and make it a run-commute. Everyone at work thought I was mental, which is definitely a compliment to a runner, haha. I'll keep my other runs this week short to compensate.

    3rd April - 13.1 miles - Half PB 2:04:35
    5th April - 2.43 miles
    6-8th April - away
    9th April - 3.09 miles
    10th April - 6.4 miles
    12th April - 3.67 miles
    14th April - 4.53 miles
    17th April - 7.37 miles
    19th April - 7.18 miles

    MTD - 47.77/65 miles

    Upcoming races:
8th May - Run Hackney Half Marathon
2nd Oct - Tonbridge Half Marathon
30th Oct - River Thames Half Marathon
