I'm taking an unplanned rest day today because it seems like the thing to do. This week was a "down week" and I kept the mileage down and ran easy all week except for the half yesterday which is safe to say I gave a hard effort. I was so happy when the kids went to bed and I also went straight to bed. So I'll make up for that effort with rest today and start tomorrow on next weeks increase to 48 miles/week.

    4/1 - Rest
    4/2 - 14 miles
    4/3 - 5 miles
    4/4 - 5 miles

Best race atmosphere ever! Music, cheers, fried chicken, bacon, beer, tequila, and fudge all provided by spectators.

I got several pat's on the back gimpin' the last few miles. Idk what I've done to my foot. There's significant pain medial in front of my ankle. I've a headache too. It's warm, I think I was in enough pain I was holding my breath. No PR. But I hadn't planned on one. Garmin says 2:30xx.
DH got 2:08xx. Not bad for such a challenging course. I was behind 0.5 mile at the 1:40 mark for a PR, which would have been easy to make up if my foot didn't get worse.

There were 24,818 participants. 3000 marathoners. There were elites that showed up. Not sure who yet. Medal and a shirt with the packet and a finishers shirt too.

Last few miles the EMT's were busy. Guess some folks got over heated.

I'm really really trying to avoid this thread cause you guys make me wanna run.

Knee update. 1 week and it's better, no pain when walking or running but if I squat on one leg I can still feel a spot of pain. There is no more pain when I straighten the knee and only a little if I straighten against resistance. I'm pretty sure this is a sprained ligament or tendon cause I can feel pain if I push inside-bottom part of my patella so I'm guessing there is a minor tear. Which sucks cause these things take time to heal and 1 week is not much. Another week off for now. I tried to do some cycling but It doesn't help since knee gets sore after. Easy cycling works well though as long as I don't push.

I also find myself running whenever I need to walk more than 10 meters and no one is looking.

Way to tough it out @Elise4270! Normally that would be a bad idea, and maybe it still wasn't the best, but since you are already expecting a recovery period from your upcoming surgery then you have time to heal up from this. Hope it is nothing serious.

@AdrianChr92 - Very wise to keep the urge from running to a minimum.

Just found out that the OKCMM is a Boston qualifier. No wonder it's such a great atmosphere.

@WhatMeRunning I thought about a DNF, but I figure, warmer weather coming and surgery- I might just do some swiming and ease out of so many running miles. Maybe drop back to 20 MPW instead of pushing the 40.

@elise4270 - Nice job on the HM! I don't know how you manage the pain. Love the bling!
@AdrianChr92 - sounds like it is getting better! But good to hold off pushing yourself.
@WhatMeRunning - I remember those days when my kids were home and was so happy when they went to sleep. It's great having them home, but let me tell you... it's really great when they are on their own too! BTW I can't wait to hear how "running with the cows goes!"
@4leighbee - I just noticed you are back! I remember you were hurt a few months ago and glad to see you are back! And lots of mileage too! WTG! I'm sorry if you've been back all month and I just noticed. It's been so busy in here and I'm barely keeping up!

Awesome bike ride today! A deer ran right in front of us at one point! And also an opossum was running around, which was very strange. Who sees one of those in the daylight and running. Very odd. We suspect it must have had rabies or something. For a lot of the ride I was mapping out my runs for the week, lol. I want to hit my goal but that's a lot for me for one week. Next Saturday I can't go on a bike ride so I will get an extra run in.

4/1- 5.1 miles in the rain
    4/2 - rest/travel day
    4/3 - 34 miles on bike
    4/4 - 5.1 miles (intervals)
4/5 - 5.1 miles - intervals (although slower than yesterday)
    4/6 - 22 miles on bike + Strength training
    4/7 - 4.2 miles - slow and steady
    4/8 - strength training
    4/9 - 34 miles on bike
    4/10 - 50 miles on bike
4/11 - 5.1 miles - recovery run from all the biking + strength training
    4/12 - 4.2 miles
4/13 - rest day (biking rained out).
    4/14 - 4.8 miles
    4/15 - sick day
4/16 - 4.2 very slow miles (feeling better)
    4/17 - 35 miles on bike
    4/18 - 5 miles (intervals)

    Recap:
Ran the Ravenswood Run 5K race today. We had some beautiful weather, and it was an awesome course! My official time was 23:05, so a little on the slow side for me. I was really hoping to break 22 minutes (this has been my goal for a few months now!) but today just wasn’t my day. I’ve been struggling with pain in my right knee (and a little in my hamstring too) for about a week now; it hasn’t been getting any worse but it has been just bad enough that my runs have been pretty miserable. I've been doing the runner thing, where I pretend it doesn't hurt and hope that it goes away on its own, but after today’s race I think I need to take at least a few days off to let it heal up :(

So here's the plan: take 3 days off from running, then try an easy 2-4 miles on Thursday if the pain while walking/standing is gone by then. Commit to strength training and core work again, because I think the knee thing is related to letting my form slip during the snowy/icy half marathon two weeks ago. If the run on Thursday goes ok, do another 2-4 friday, take saturday off, then 6-10 on sunday. Also, start foam rolling again! Either way, looks like I won't be making it to 190 miles this month
