Low carb diet <100g

I'm on my 5th day of a low carb diet and the weight is starting to come off pretty fast, is anyone else on a similar diet? I have upped my fat intake and that helps, I haven't had a proper carb meal in 5 days and it's starting to catch up on me

Has anyone had much success on the same kind of diet? How are you finding it

I have done atkins twice before. Lost 30lbs in about 3 months. The weight comes off quick the first week due to losing all stored water but definitely slows down after... I would diet for vacation time and stop after. Weight comes back on faster then it came off... Im counting calories this time around. Im definetly much happier this time but weightloss is just a little slower.

I'm currently on a ketogenic "diet".

The cravings do go away. Weight loss may not meet expectations all the time. All in all, I love it.

@Tenster my cravings faded fast after about 15 day any my joint and muscle pain dropped after 30 days and 1.5 years later I still have good control on this WOE. The first 30 days was a steep learning curve in my case and kind of weird the first 90 days.

    What happens after this?

my point? it doesn't matter if you low carb or not, if you don't have a plan for AFTER the weight comes back.

Hi fat, moderate protein, and very low carb has always been the better route for me! I love keeping a lot of good fat in the diet naturally because I eat Paleo.

The main reason to up your fat intake is to kind of force your body to use fat as its primary energy sauce opposed to carbohydrates.

I lost a ton of weight quickly last year on it. Then I went back to normal and gained it all back

Google "fat bombs" for some yummy recipes. I personally was too lazy to ever really make anything, so I would just eat a mixture of peanut butter, cream cheese and cocoa powder to satisfy my sweet tooth and get some extra fat in my diet.

this is the story of 90% or more of dieters. Go back to overeating and you gain weight. Slow handclap.

Increase butter, sour cream, mayo, olives, full fat slad dressing (ranch is usually low carb, cheese, eggs, small steak, dark meat chicken.

That doesn't sound like Atkins to me. Did you read the books etc. before you began? Eat enough plant foods etc?

I had carbs in the form of semi skimmed milk in my tea and whatever the amount of carbs that was in the food I ate. I had a few carb meals yesterday as I was whiped out and made some healthy brownies today (dates, almonds, peanuts, peanut butter and ca cacao powder)

Isn't the goal to force your body to use up it's STORED body fat instead of dietary fat? Ultimately, regardless of macros, the way the body uses up excess body fat is when it's faced with a calorie deficit. I lost 34 lbs down to my goal of 118 lbs while eating a high carb plant based diet of 75% carbs and 10% fat, eating at a deficit through increased exercise.

I'm obviously not saying low carb diets don't work for weight loss. We all know that regardless of diet type, a calorie deficit is necessary for weightloss. BUT, what some people don't realize is that a low carb diet usually means high fat and this has a tendency to increase cholesterol levels (happened to me before I stopped, and it's a very common occurrence amongst low carb dieters). Low carbing also has a tendency to cause thyroid problems especially among women, so one should monitor their labs if they do this on a long-term basis.

I think Eric is absolutely rite there. Calories in v calories out has a lot to do with weight loss but so does your hormones

@Tsartele I have stayed in nutritional ketosis most of the last 1.5 years by keeping carbs <50 grams daily. At age 63 and very weak my first two weeks were hellish then the cravings just faded away quickly. That is covered by Dr. D'Agostino at 59:00 on the video below as to why ketosis kills our cravings. The two doctors have been doing lab testing with animals as to how ketosis can be protective against cancer. I have been following the work of Dr. D'Agostino for a while and he is very good on the subject and on target based on my reading of past research on the subject. I think you will enjoy it and find other videos listed on the right that may be of interest.
