I hear a lot of people advocate for unapproved "natural" remedies/supplements. Some of the logic they give is that the drugs were made from something so why not just take the "natural" ingredient the drugs were made from.
The first ACE Inhibitor, a class of frequently used antihypertinsives with their generic names ending in "pril", was derived from the venom of the Brazilian Viper, Bothrops Jararaca. So by the "natural" logic, people who take this type of med would be better off going to Brazil and getting themselves bitten/killed by that snake than taking a pill every day. I suppose it would be effective for the goal of reducing blood pressure, but is it worth it?2 -
