my daughter is bringing home ice cream right now

Evening times are usually when I fall off the wagon. My daughter just left to get some Ben and Jerry ice cream so we can have it during our movie time. What to do when a family member brings your weakness home and wants to share? And forget portion control. What do you do when family members seem eager to share fattening foods?

I'd just eat a quarter-cup and call it good. That should be enough to enjoy the flavor and not go overboard.0

Nothing special really. I enjoy eating whatever they are sharing and even if I end up over my calorie goal. I know that as long as it doesn't turn into a daily thing, I'll be fine.0

I did jog for an hour today and I could at least do some exercises with my dumbells to compensate for the ice cream. Tomorrow I have an hour & a half of zumba to do. Maybe that will help too.

Exercise more on days you know you'll be having ice cream so you'll have room for the calories.0

Why forget portion control?? That's all you need to do. Have a portion of the ice cream that fits into your allotted calories for the day. Seems simple enough if you ask me.0 -
let here have that one and you can get you some breyers low carb ice cream it is soo good then add Peanut butter to it and a table spoon of dark chocolate chips still will have less calories0

Ice cream is a huge weakness for me. I find skinny cow ice cream to definitely settle the cravings.0

Do 100 jumping jacks, 50 pushups, 75 crunches by the time she gets home, then you can decide if you want to eat the ice cream.
I find this is a great set-up for watching what you put into your body and not having control of how much you eat.
set some boundaries with yourself, use this formula to curb your lack of will.0 -
It does seem to happen frequently or at least in my opinion. She wanted to get it the other day and I talked her out of it by suggesting she wait until she has friends coming over to share it with. Her friends didn't show up and she moans about ice cream.0

The way I see it you have a few choices.
1. Know that it's a special treat with your daughter, and just go over calories once in awhile.
2. You can try and exercise some portion control, which is hard.
3. If your daughter is old enough to bring home the ice cream, she is old enough to understand that you are trying to lose weight. Tell her that having ice cream around especially at night, is too difficult for you. Ask her to buy a small pint for herself. Let her know that you are trying to make some changes. Enjoy the movie night without the food.
Personally I know there are going to be days that I am just going to go over and just enjoy the food. Like yesterday, went to my sisters for a barbecue. I knew ahead of time I was going to go over, and I didn't worry about it. I enjoyed the day with my family, and worked my butt off a little more today. Our family gatherings are always filled with good food, and I enjoy it. I bring fruit or a salad, and some of my other sisters do that too. Figure out what you want, and talk to your daughter about it. I am sure she will support you.0 -

You could try buying the cones for kids and only eat what will fit in the cone and one scoop above it.0

put your bikini on while she's gone and wait on the sofa with your spoon. I'm sure the thought of enabling will appear differently when she sees what she'll be looking like in a few years too. maybe next time she'll go for a baby carrot or smoothie run. I find nothing more satisfying than torturing my children with the ultimate reality that they will turn into me. I find it quite satisfying. Good luck!0

I have these tiny little bowls that I use when prepping meals, and they're also good for a little scoop of ice cream.

One way I can conquer a craving is looking at the calories on the package. The thought of logging it is usually the best deterrent for me. I make it a point to log everything and that keeps me from binging terribly. this same process works at the store in avoiding buying stuff too.0

Make room for it in your calories or don't eat it. Just because your daughter is having some doesn't mean you have to as well. It's not rocket surgery.0
