This whole thread is NOT OKAY.
You are sexualizing this poor woman who just wanted to work out. It makes me exceedingly uncomfortable to see that so many men are talking about her clothes and her machine choice being some kind of invitation.
We can and should be able to wear whatever we want to the gym. Whether we find the clothing more comfortable or whether we just like it. No man should be comfortable leering at us for it.
I hope every man who commented about pictures and what girls wear in his gym and accusing this stranger of looking for attention will rethink. She is a person trying to get and stay fit, like we all are. Leering and fantasizing in public forums is not appropriate behavior. It is rape culture.0 -
Ways to tell a woman is going to the gym for attention:
1. Wears yoga pants
2. Wears makeup
3. Chooses a machine near a man
Anything else? What if you wear baggy sweats and makeup? I need to know, because the only attention I've attracted so far is the attention of a trainer due to my sloppy form. (The trainer was so right, not offended, and the advice helped a lot.)
I go to the gym after work, no I don't take my make up off prior to wroking out and I wear yoga pants. I use whatever machine/ weight is on my schedule for the day. Just because a man may be using the machine next to mine doesn't mean I am looking for attention.
My post was sarcastic. :flowerforyou: I'm annoyed at the many ways women are accused of going to the gym for attention. I suppose some people do, but a gym membership is an expensive investment, and a woman with a great *kitten* is probably using that investment, not going to the gym for attention.0 -

Because people always work out harder when they know they're being watched. No one wants to look like a lame a** in front of an audience.0

Maybe she just likes that particular machine. She's probably not even paying attention to you.
So true. I have a routine. I don't GAF what someone else is doing/what machine is being used....as long as it isn't mine.
I got on the treadmill in front of this guy the other day in my mini spandex shorts, and MY ROUTINE is to use the treadmill to stretch before I do anything on it. So I was bending over, mini spandex shorts and all stretching then I put one leg at a time up on the railing and stretched. Ran. Got off and lifted weights downstairs.
Later on that night I was complaining to my boyfriend how I felt fat at the gym and he said, "OHHH COME ONNNN. A guy at the gym complimented me on you in the locker room." When I asked what guy, it was the guy from the machine behind me in the cardio area.
Morale of the story: we don't care what you're doing or what machine you are on. Well, most of us I would assume. :flowerforyou: Sorry. lol0 -

Naww. Like I said, I felt fat that night at the gym. I didn't want attention or to be looked at sexually. I felt gross. I was self conscious the whole time I was working out....to the point that I felt compelled to say I felt gross at the gym to my boyfriend later that night.0 -
Because people always work out harder when they know they're being watched. No one wants to look like a lame a** in front of an audience.
This is actually why I wear next to nothing at the gym. I want to FEEL like I look AMAZING pumping my biceps or doing my squats. It motivates me and empowers me. Gives me drive to have perfect form and to do as much weight as possible without looking like an idiot. Great motivator for me.
HOWEVER, this does not mean that I want to be leered at or gawked at.....men forget that those mirrors work both ways. I CAN SEE YOU STARING ME DOWN! :huh:0 -

Funny story though. I asked a guy to spot me last night and he said after finishing, "OMG, I didn't know what to do. I've never spotted a woman. I didn't know where to put my hands because I didn't want to touch your boobs."    :laugh:0 -

He said, "Wow, I'm so jealous...over here doing 25 lbs bicep curls. I hurt my tricep, so doing 10 lbs hurts me right now."
Yeah, yeah dude...go away. Excuses to talk to me.0 -
