I just watched this video posted by Jaco De Bruyn a very popular muscle model .. he went to get his BF% measured by Dexa Scan and guess what a elite Athlete like him got a result of 12.5 %!!! and in the video he said according to calipers it was around 6 or 7 % ! that's a freaking 5 to 6 % difference..this video made me really forget about my bf % and go with the mirror coz this guy has visible hard abs year round and he just got a 12.5 % and according to all the BF% and abs science out there u have to be below 10 % to look lean
here is the vid :

The video says it's brain fat. Seriously, they assume he has 23% brain fat.2 -

You're making that up.
I mean, the dexa would break out the parts, so they should know the BF% of each component. But if he has 23% brain fat, and his head is 25% of his total body weight, then...
LOLOLOLOL. Sorry, I just pictured what this would look like. Guess I need to watch this video to understand better the claim...because my BSometer is maxed right now.1 -

Listen at 4:25 and then look at the stop frame at 4:41 23.9% brain fat. I. Kid. You. Not.

EZ misses nothing.
He has a very lean brain.9 -
my point here is that this guy was depending on calipers and the calipers gave him a result of 6 to 7 % and by the actual BF% test he got 12 .5 % ..btw guys check other videos of people on youtube getting the same results when they do dexa theirs numbers are very different from calipers and they look pretty lean with visible abs and above 10 % bf ... in my pic im around 12 by calipers and my abs are visible .0

Did he try to use calipers on his brain? Because that would explain a lot7 -
Most men get visible abs around 13-14%. I' tend to start to show around 16ish%. My current PP, I'm probably at 13%.0

For measuring body fat %, calipers are less accurate than the DEXA scan.1 -
*looks around*
Did I accidentally stumble into BB.com misc?8 -

I had a dexa scan, they never measured my brain, or gave brain fat %
It was arms legs and trunk as in head and body.

I do all my research on YouTube too!4 -
if you understand dexa body fat testing then you will understand why he is at 12% body fat,he is lean but not super lean im sure when he gets closer to a contest he gets way leaner than what he is in the video, they measure all body fat, organ fat an all, look up alberto nunez dexa scan on you tube he came in at the low 6% range0

That's why I wouldn't necessarily bother to pay to get my bf% measured. Yeah, it's an interesting measurement but at the end of the day, knowing the number doesn't change what you see in the mirror. If you want to have an accurate comparison before/after/during a particular program or diet phase it could be handy but you also have to be willing to keep going back and paying for the tests. Everyone leans out differently and will have visible abs at different bf%s anyway so even if you hit a certain % you're not guaranteed anything.
As a comparison measurement, it still more useful than weight or BMI alone. It's just unfortunate that accurate testing tend to be expensive (relative to scales) and somewhat inaccessible (not in your own home). If there was a cheap and accurate machine for bf% that you could use in your own home I'd be all over it but for the moment I guess I'm just sticking to a combination of scale, mirror and tape measure/clothing fit to gauge progress.0
