Ketogenic Questions?

I have read several things about ketogenic eating, which is essentially a low card, high fat diet.
Anyone had any success with this? Long term success?
How did you keep from going psycho on the lower carbs?
I don't want to start something that is just another fad like Atkins, or that could potentially ruin my metabolism. I have heard so many awful things about low carb diets, how does this differ? What are the benefits?
I am 26 y/o female.
194 pounds (down 40)
5ft 7in
Light-moderate exercise 4-5 times a week.

Ketogenic diets really work! They helped my mom drop and keep off about 50 lbs, and it works for me too. It also is recommended for children and dogs with seizures. I know that sounds weird but my dog switched to a ketogenic diet and it stopped his seizures! Would recommend.0

I did keto for 6 months, roughly two years ago. I followed it perfectly, lost around 40 pounds in that time frame. I stayed full, only noticed it was time to eat because I would get a headache after not eating for 7 or 8 hours. I had no heartburn (which I usually get a few times a week) and just generally felt great.
Problem is that, for me at least, long-term keto is not an option. I like bread, I love veggies and fruits (eating an amazing apple right now), and I adore sushi. All foods that are off-limits to keto. I went without them all for six months. And as soon as I started back eating them, I didn't have the willpower to make myself stop. I spent a year trying to get back on keto, would only last at-most a month before 'cheating' and eating something with a lot of carbs. And before each "I'm going to restart keto tomorrow", I'd binge eat all the carb things, thinking that would help me to not crave them. I ended up regaining 45-ish pounds in a year and a half because of my binge-then-keto sessions. Thankfully I stopped before I regained the other 40 I had lost from calorie counting before keto.
I'm not blaming keto for my problems, and I'm honestly not trying to stop you from trying it. Just please go into it with your eyes open. If you have any problems with willpower about not eating carby foods, think long and hard about this decision. Good luck!
(Again, not blaming keto for my regain. My own willpower was the problem, so now I'm enjoying being able to eat a wide variety of foods within my calorie goal.)1 -
Not weird at all regarding dogs on keto for epilepsy. Prior to the development of anti seizure medications a keto diet was the prescription for epilepsy. It is still used today for children who do not respond to anti-seizure meds.
Op, I recommend the forum mentioned above by @samanthaluangphixay.0
