Kale! The God of Superfoods!

Has anybody else heard of the kale diet? Basically you just add kale to your diet i.e snack on that instead of other foods. My mams friend added it to her diet last year and lost over 2 stone! Anyway has anybody else had a similar result or experience with this green God?

There's absolutely nothing magical about kale. If your mom's friend lost weight, it was because she was in a calorie deficit - basically she was eating less than she was burning every day.
Anyone can achieve that without resorting to munching on kale.
Which I happen to think tastes nasty.28 -
Oh, that's like the air diet! Except instead of replacing your snacks with kale, you swallow air for a snack. My mom's friend lost over 2.5 stone!
Seriously though, replacing snacks with lower calorie snacks or omitting them altogether and losing weight as a result is called eating at a caloric deficit. There is no magic about kale.15 -
I hate kale. I don't care how good it is for you. IMO it tastes gross.3
-
The only way I really like kale is to drizzle it with some olive oil and salt then bake it for about 20 minutes. So good that way.
Otherwise, it has no magical weight loss properties. You still have to eat less calories than you burn to lose weight.5 -
There probably is no magic but its definetly very good for you. It contains so many of the nutrients we need and in only a small amount too.0
-
So eat kale as a snack instead of potato chips? Yeah, you'll lose some weight. I'd rather just eat a little less of everything.2

Let me guess, you started drinking green tea because you thought it would help you lose weight? (Spoiler alert: it doesn't).7 -
No i started drinking green tea instead of soda. It gave me some energy and i don't get headaches or bloated like i do with carbonatex drinks5

Kale has no magic properties
it's just a trendy green (IMO it tasted like dirt )
She lost weight cos she replaced calories with dirt6 -

Yes, just like other vegetables.10 -

Why is it so trendy? I understand it has a lot of nutrients but yuck!
If you watch parks and rec, it reminds me of the people at the farmers market trying to sell chard. They had all the "sexy dancers" and turned the farmers market into a dance club because that's the only way they could sell the nasty chard!3 -
Coconut-Kale soup is yummy as hell. I just wouldn't eat too much of it. That coconut oil you roast the kale in first and the coconut milk you add to cook it it tend to pack quite a few calories.
Other than that... I don't see the point of eating something you don't particularly like for the sake of eating it. Superfoods are nothing more than a clever marketing idea.
(Edit for grammar... )0 -
Why don't collards get any love? Just as good nutritionally and far easier to prepare.4

No such thing as "super foods". While nutrient dense, there are other ways to get the nutrients from kale without having to gag it down.
As for your mams friend, she ate less than she burned. That's how weight loss works.

Not a fan of kale, but it is nutritious.

Yup!
Coconut oil and kale. Add some chia seeds and you'd have a woo bingo buffet!
I use coconut oil to pop popcorn with. That's it. Tastes yummy! Kale? Not so much.6 -
I prefer spinach over kale.10

You guys. Kale is delicious. So so good.
If you cook it right.
Epicurius kale salad is mind blowing. I have 6 kale plants in my garden and I could eat even more.1 -
Kale is nutritious, but there's more iron, potassium, zinc, magnesium in spinach & less carbs, fat, calories in spinach.8

As i said at the start if you substituted the snacks you usually eat and have kale instead it would most likely help you lose weight (like any other healthy, low calorie food). This is because you could potentially be cutting out 100's of calories, like my mams friend i assume.0

Man: Morning!
Waitress: Morning!
Man: Well, what've you got?
Waitress: Well, there's egg and bacon; egg sausage and bacon; egg and kale; egg bacon and kale; egg bacon sausage and kale; kale bacon sausage and kale; kale egg kale kale bacon and kale; kale sausage kale kale bacon kale tomato and kale;
Vikings: Kale kale kale kale...
Waitress: ...kale kale kale egg and kale; kale kale kale kale kale kale baked beans kale kale kale...
Vikings: Kale! Lovely kale! Lovely kale!
Waitress: ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and kale.
Wife: Have you got anything without kale?
Waitress: Well, there's kale egg sausage and kale, that's not got much kale in it.
Wife: I don't want ANY kale!
Man: Why can't she have egg bacon kale and sausage?
Wife: THAT'S got kale in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much kale in it as kale egg sausage and kale, has it?
Vikings: Kale kale kale kale... (Crescendo through next few lines...)
Wife: Could you do the egg bacon kale and sausage without the kale then?
Waitress: Urgghh!
Wife: What do you mean 'Urgghh'? I don't like kale!
Vikings: Lovely kale! Wonderful kale!
Waitress: Shut up!
Vikings: Lovely kale! Wonderful kale!
Waitress: Shut up! (Vikings stop) Bloody Vikings! You can't have egg bacon kale and sausage without the kale.
Wife: I don't like kale!
Man: Sshh, dear, don't cause a fuss. I'll have your kale. I love it. I'm having kale kale kale kale kale kale kale baked beans kale kale kale and kale!
Vikings: kale kale kale kale. Lovely kale! Wonderful kale!
Waitress: Shut up!! Baked beans are off.
Man: Well could I have her kale instead of the baked beans then?
Waitress: You mean kale kale kale kale kale kale... (but it is too late and the Vikings drown her words)
Vikings: (Singing elaborately...) kale kale kale kale. Lovely kale! Wonderful kale! kale k-a-a-a-a-le kale ka-a-a-a-a-le kale. Lovely kale! Lovely kale! Lovely kale! Lovely kale! Lovely kale! kale kale kale kale!

That's not what you said. You referred to it as a "God". That's a big claim. Plus, it's yucky.3 -
Weight loss is about calories. You lose weight by having a calorie deficit.
You can eat kale, bananas, cabbage soup, doughnuts, cheeseburgers or pasta and have a calorie deficit.
Kale is nutritious but not magic. Most vegetables are pretty low calorie. If you like kale eat it. If you don't then eat something else.

I think anyone who replaced their usual snacks with a green leafy vegetable would lose weight. Nothing super of godlike about that.7
