Am I delusional about my weight?

I recently went on a weekend getaway with my friends and my shopping trips with them raised a question in me - Am I delusional on how big I actually am??
As I picked out the biggest size marked XL or XXL, I went 'yup this can fit me I dont need to try these on' but after friends forced me to try it on in fitting rooms, I actually couldnt fit into anything. I admit I did buy the clothes that couldnt fit cause I was embarassed to tell my friends that I couldnt fit into all of it.
Did any of you guys go through what I did? Im worried this thinking of mine would hinder my weightlose cause I would think Im not as big as I actually am. Help!!

I doubt you are delusional. It can be hard to assess the true size of clothing and how it will fit on your body.1

Well, without knowing your height and weight it's hard to say. If you still look like the photo you posted, I'm guessing maybe you're a size 14? Just a guess! Generally speaking, sz 14 = LG or XL, depending on the brand. And it truly does depend. I'm a lot bigger than you, wearing a sz24 at the moment, but that said, there are times I find clothes marked sz 18/20 and they fit fine. One thing I've learned, is not to focus on what the tags say, cuz every friggin' brand is different. All that matters is how you look and feel in the clothes. -And from one woman to another, whether you have 20lbs to lose or 120, you are YOUNG, so take advantage of that and get the weight off now. Cuz it only gets harder (way, WAY harder) as you age. When I was your age I took up ballroom dance, and boy, does that kill the calories! If that appeals to you at all, I'd go for it. Seriously fun, and the lbs melt off. Good luck, and don't let those labels get you down!1

With my recent weightloss, i'm a size 8. I tried on some clothes from a store and I had to go up to a 12 - I have never been a 12, even before my weightloss.
Some stores make clothes in very small sizes (especially stores with clothing imported from Asian countries) & some clothes are made to fit very small. And it does go the other way - I picked out a "Small" from one store, and ended up needing XXSmall because it was still too big!
Not to mention your body shape can play into what you will and won't fit into - Given my long torso, small boobs and small body, I have never, ever fitted into a playsuit/romper. If I pick a size that fits my body, it gives me a front & back wedgie (great mental image, I know). If I get a size that doesn't give me a 180 degree wedgie, it's baggy and loose on my body and there isn't much point in wearing clothes if that's the look i'm going for.
I can also try on clothes that is the "perfect size" but hate how it looks on my body.
In short, return the clothes and next time don't be embarrassed! Say it doesn't fit, you don't like how it looks on or hell, that the fabric was itching you!1 -
yeah, I can wear anything from a size 6 (XS)to a size 12 (M) (UK), depending on the brand, shop, how the item is cut and fitted etc etc. That doesn't mean that overnight I can gain or lose 3 dress sizes, clothes are just tricky. General rule of thumb, the more expensive and popular the brand, the smaller the sizing1

I think it depends on the target market. I like the higher-end highstreet brands like Precis, Phase8, Coast, Reiss, LK Bennett because the style is so classic- but thier target market is 'older ladies' and they vanity size so much- I have to be really picky about what I buy there as even their smallest sizes tend to run too large.
Plus M&S recently admitted that they have vanity sized their core-range by two inches upwards- to accommodate 'todays woman'.1 -
I think we never want to SEE how big we might have gotten? It's like we don't want to admit to ourselves the size we are.
I'm sorry that you couldn't be honest with your friends, they wouldn't have thought any less or differently of of you for telling them that the clothes didn't fit.
All shops sizing's are so different of course, so its always better to try on clothes.1 -

Go to the link in the first post of this thread, enter your information, and you'll see ... you.
That site was a bit revealing for me. While many people think they are bigger than they really are, I thought I was smaller.
