I take a multi and fish oil. I'll probably be stopping the fish oil once my current supply runs out.

I take D3 in the fall and winter when I don't spend much time outside. In the spring and summer I get plenty of sun so the D3 is unnecessary.

Jonny, have you ever considered the case against multis?

    Right.

Because coQ10 has not been proven to help people who are in the early stages of Parkinsons.
And low dose aspirin does nothing to help prevent cancer.
Not to mention the fact that vitamin D is useless against a plethora of diseases out there.

For every "study" there is that says supplements are bad you will find probably just as many that state the opposite. Many of those studies are flawed (the vitamin E study to be exact) and to "prove their point" they will give lab rats doses of vitamins that would be toxic to anyone to prove that they are dangerous and toxic.

He makes a good case about avoiding antioxidant supplementation, which I agree with. People take stupid-high levels of A, C, and E. Some multis even have ridiculous levels of them, and that's one of the main reasons I stick to a cheap multi that has 70-100% of the RDA for these vitamins. I don't see any reason to suspect that these levels would be harmful in any way. Furthermore, the multi has a lot more than just antioxidants. Vitamin K, the B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, chromium, and lycopene are potentially beneficial and present in reasonable quantities.

There's some evidence that fish oil can be good for your lipid profile or blood pressure. However, if you're not at risk for heart disease and you don't have high blood pressure there's little evidence that it will help prevent anything. There's even some evidence that it could be bad for you.

So unless you have a good reason to take it, I say don't bother. You definitely do want to make sure you're getting enough calcium and vitamin D, though. If you're not getting it through food get some calcium citrate tablets or chews.

God I read so much conflicting stuff about saturated vs pufa vs mufa that I think we don't know crap about how all that works. As far as I can tell, there is far too little information to come to any kind of actionable conclusion. I just make sure I get fats from a variety of sources and go on with my day.

Yeah, if on each trip you only take enough stuff to fill a thimble.

Who cares if you're eating 25 kinds of superfoods if you're eating a hundredth of a serving of each of them?

A few years back I was interested in nutrition. I've moved on to genetics, epigenetics
    Nutrigenomics, and so on. :)
