I'm 36, Married and I have 4 kids. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and Hashimotos disease 9 years ago after I had my 3rd child.
I've only struggled with weight after my 4th child was born 3 1/2 years ago. Doctor added Cytomel to my list of medications and I lost 15 lbs within 6 months. But then it plateaued. Since May I've gained back 11 lbs. I Went to the dr recently to check the thyroid levels and he said everything was fine. TSH is 1.3. But he didn't check everything and I'm not fine. I'm gaining weight rapidly.
I have no energy to exercise, however I chase a toddler around all day so I get some exercise lol.

Anyone else on here have thyroid disease and Hashimotos?
Would love some friends to help me out.

HI, Dragonfly. I know how hard it is to loose with low thyroid. Been living with it for 20 years. When I first went on hormone therapy I lost 20 lbs very fast. Then I lost another 20 but much much slower. Highest weight was 200 (I am 5'5"). This year I have started losing again. The biggest change I made this year was to reduce the salt in my diet. When I was younger I remember my Mom would always lose weight when my Dad would be stationed overseas. (Army). My Dad loved salt and was as skinny as a rail. So, I thought I would try watching the salt in my diet and now I have lost 6 lbs this year. Not great, but I can see I will be losing more. There are so many variables for each person. I think you just have to keep searching.

Hey, I feel for you. I have had hypothyroidism for 3 years, but it's due to a pituitary issue rather than Hashimotos. Last summer I was gaining 5 pounds a month, sleeping 10 hours a day, and losing my hair. My endocrinologist tested my TSH, T4, and T3, and she told me that my labs were fine and that it was all in my head. However, I asked my hair dresser if she thought that I was losing an excessive amount of hair, and she said that I definitely was. I went to my family doctor for my checkup and mentioned my symptoms to him, and he said that he would test my REVERSE t3 (rT3) which is a hormone that inactivates regular T3. It turns out my rT3 was indeed high and my T3 was slightly low, which was ironically probably due to a cortisol spike from excessive exercise and dieting. If you think that something is wrong, keep a list of all of your symptoms and mention it to your doctor the next time you see him. If you've noticed a marked difference in your energy level, that's not normal. There are of course different causes for low energy and weight gain, but your doctor should in the very least be checking your T3 -- especially since you are on cytomel. If he won't give you peace of mind by trying to find a cause for your symptoms, it might be time to find a new doctor. Keep hanging in there :)

There's a group here at MFP for members with all sorts of thyroid issues. You'll get lots of answers there:

Being *properly medicated* is the key to losing weight with Hypothyroidism/hashimoto's. I have both, too, and managed to lose 75 lbs in one year.

I share your pain. As someone without a thyroid, it is extremely hard to lose weight, but its doable. I have to exercise EVERY day, otherwise that weight just creeps back on. I lost 24 lbs two years ago, let myself go, now I am back again starting all over. It is very frustrating.

Here is what you need to do from my experience. Ask your or your endocrinologist to do a full blood test, make sure this includes Vitamin D. I was feeling like you especially during the winter months, the darkness was making me very tired, moody and depressed. Once I had the blood work, it was noted that my Vitamin D was extremely low. The change was remarkable once I start taking them, it was put on 2000 iu and it was like night and day.

I also watch what I eat, no white stuff (bread and rice), no soy at all, no fresh water fish or seafood.

I have restarted on MFP today as I am tired of being overweight. Walking helps, but you have to get that heart rate up to burn those calories. I have started calorie cycling, which I found work, especially on the days when I eat light.
