Do not go to a Chinese Restaurant if you like to eat. Went today and ended up over by 568 calories OUCH. Guess once a month for a treat day is not too bad. And now all of those left overs........

So much oil! But lots of Chinese places have special diet menus that are yummy! Lots of steamed veggies.0

My advice? Always go for the steamed veggies, egg drop soup or other brothy soups, and STEAMED brown rice (and don't forget the soy sauce!) All of these are low cal eating out options, and super yummy! This way I never have to give up my chinese food
As for the leftovers, dump 'em! Sounds wasteful, I know, but you had your indulgence- no reason to keep indulging on the food after that, it'll just lead to guilt. Or if you don't wanna dump them, share them!0 -
We don't eat Chinese food often...but I have NO intention of stopping it...I love it! And what are these "leftovers" you refer to?0

I think there are worse places you could go if you like to eat... if you enjoy it, enjoy it once in a while.0

I used to feel this way too until I discovered most Chinese restaurants offer steamed chicken and broccoli. It's really filling and low in calories. Try it out!0

i havent gone in a while because i cant find accurate nutritional info for majority of chinese food, the estimations are just all over the place. If ive had an active day and have not had much to eat yet i might consider it occasionally.0

Japanese = not much better. Had a greasy dinner saved only by a late night stint on the elliptical. Not making that mistake again.0

Unfortunately I am a huge lover of Chinese food, but I stopped ordering take-out once I started having an active lifestyle. I, now, make my own sweet 'n sour, fried rice and whatever else I would like at home. That way you can really control what goes into your food and how much. There are a ton of recipes online. Just search for it.
It's really not as hard as it seems, once you get the hang of things!0 -
I quit Chinese food after looking up the recipe for sesame chicken. Seriously, there are cakes with less sugar in them..0

I can go to Chinese restaurants, just not buffets, where "all you can eat" becomes a sort of "get your money's worth" challenge in my head, and I wind up sick.0

Hakka is even worse.....I could eat that food all day, and sometimes I do.0

I love Chinese food, but really only the bad for you kind...deep fat fried chicken with lots of sugar. Steamed broccoli = yuck. So I have been avoiding it.0

I made homemade Asian food tonight. Kind of a mishmash of several different styles; Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc. A huge plate: 615 calories, 76 grams carbs (almost entirely complex; veggies & whole grains), 11 grams fat, 56 grams protein.0

a little over 500 isn't bad at all! but if you really feel bad about it, cut down by like 75 cals per day the rest of your week or take a walk around the block a few times. i LOVEEE chinese food! i love buffets! it's nice because you can have a bite of anything you might want, and only eat the things you REALLY like and not waste calories trying to "finish" your plate.
last time i went to a buffet, probably a month or two ago, i left feeling satisfied and craving was gone! i usually save restaurants or chinese food especially for gym days! so that way, they fit into my calories! and i don't feel so guilty. haha. i plan on going to one next week, actually!0 -
Must be the genes. I eat Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese and Japanese each once a week. I just don't eat a wok full.

I had Chinese food for lunch today! It wasn't a buffet, though. Buffets are tough in any type of restaurant.0

Chinese food isn't necessarily fattening - no more than North American food is automatically fattening.
If your idea of Chinese food is six kinds of battered deep fried meat and seafood with some kind of sweet sauce - topped off by some greasy noodles and a fried egg roll I can guarantee you are gonna blow the diet. And if your Chinese restaurant is a buffet where you make nice fatty choices like the above noted candied meat, and you heap your plate then sure you will have issues. Stick with the steamed options, have a nice broth based soup and indulge in a wealth of veggies (steamed gai lan with oyster sauce - yummmm) Go for plain rice rather than fried. Noodles in broth rather than fried. And watch your portions and you will be fine. (And the leftovers won't do you harm either.0 -
we have a Chinese restaurant that will steam cook anything. So I order chicken breast steamed with broccoli or other veggies. If you have to go, this is a healthy way to make it work!!0
