Easier said than done when you are student
Really?
Before you get all judgemental ,even though you already did , I am a student at a beauty school so what I do is practical work.
Yeah you're right I got judgemental. And still am TBH, it's OK though I own it. I can't help feeling that even a student in beauty school must be learning techniques, chemistry, biology

Oh my god, I'm the same way. It's my worst nightmare. I even once asked my boss if there was more work I could be doing and he sat me down and explained that, working IT, there's not always work to do. I have to get used to the 'waiting periods'.
Boss, that doesn't help my diet!
What I do is keep multiple packs of gum (in different flavors) at my desk for when I want to absently chew on something, and I buy/bring in multiple diet drinks a day. 32oz of water, a monster absolute zero, a diet pepsi... whatever keeps me from eating. I've found that having super sugary (but zero cal) drinks around me to choose from helps because that way I get to 'taste something' and I have something to consume at my desk but I'm not eating the entire world like I used to.1 -

When I have a slow period at work I use the time to study some new skill that will make me better at my current job (or a future one). There are tons of online courses that are free or very cheap to improve skills. I used the last downtime I had at work to study for my ITIL certification exam (I.T. people will know what this is) and aced it.0

If you look upthread you will note that OP doesn't want to appear to be keen or using her initiative whilst completing her summer job.2 -

That doesn't sound like any beauty school I've heard of Beauty school is like studying to be a plumber or an electrician, not "school" per se but technical training in a particular field. Trust me, the people running the nail salon probably know very little about chemistry and biology
Anyway I know what it's like to have downtime at a job, it's pretty common in office jobs and frankly I wouldn't worry too much about people implying you having downtime is inherently bad and that you need to go get your boss to give you more work - especially as a summer job! I've seen interns go through periods of no work over and over again in my job, no one thinks they're lazy for it. Where is the snacking coming from? Is it a vending machine, a store down the street, free food in the kitchen, snacks you bring from home? Is there a way to block access to that method of obtaining snacking foods? If you actually can't get to the food, that solves the problem...(my snacking problem was solved when we moved offices and lost our vending machine LOL)0 -
I work in a medical office and sometimes there are no patients scheduled and it can get sooooo boring. I usually stock rooms, file, do anything to keep busy. But patients are constantly bringing in snacks, sweets, plus we have free snacks and candy for patients that is available to us. It is so hard to not munch on the treats.0

I have similar problems, I have a desk job where there *is* always work to do but it's dull, so if i'm not careful I could end up mindlessly munching (and have on occasion). Bring healthy snacks to work, things that are in a small enough portion that if you grab one and mindlessly eat, it's not going to blow your diet. I recommend freeze dried fruit if you can get it0

Get up every 45 minutes and take a lap around the office to get steps in. Find reasons to move around - use the copy machine - go potty - go shred something - ask you neighbor if they need anything from the supply room - help put away the copy paper....whatever.0

Learn to knit from videos on utube. Make socks and hats for poor/homeless people in your spare time.0

I have had the same issue at my desk job. Now since I have been on here, I use sugar free gum or mints. I make sure I log them. You would be surprised at the calories and how it adds up.0
