Awesome job @kristinegift -I have only hit 60+ a few times and I know how tired my legs were, so I can only imagine!1
-
@kristinegift Forgot to say earlier, that's amazing mileage. I'd have to take 2 of my running weeks to get to that number!1

I've been a bit delinquent in updating my log here, and when I tried to go back through all the post to find the last entry I gave up. I'll finish with 215 miles after this evening recovery run of 5 miles. This is short of my goal but i was feeling a little beat up a few weeks ago and started to taper a bit early. I thought things were great over the weekend with my Sunday long run but at about 15 miles my hip and glute on the right side tightened up pretty bad. I made it to 16.5 miles before stopping but I could tell that something wasn't right. I took it easy on Monday and did a bit of running on Tuesday and felt OK, Wednesday's 5 mile run felt OK and I took yesterday off due to life getting in the way. I did Thursdays run this morning which was scheduled to be a leg crushing 3x1 mile vo2max run totaling 8 miles but i knew it wouldn't be a good time to do that. Did a tempo run with 6 miles just a tad under what i'd consider my Half Marathon pace of 8:35-8:40. Felt good but on the cooldown i could tell that the hip was still a bit tender. I've got a couple easy runs this evening (5) and tomorrow (7 w 7x100 strides) then a 13 mile long run Sunday. If the hip is still talking to me after that run I might have to switch my entry to a Half, which would suck balls after 5 months of training averaging almost 60 miles a week.1
-
@5512bf -Oh no! That would suck after all of the hard training you have been doing. Is your race next weekend? Maybe one more week of super taper will get you feeling better. Fingers crossed for you!0
-
Also want to complete 50 parkruns and keep going. Am up to 42.
Ooh, that one for me too. I'm only at 18 though so I have a lot more to do!
@Elise4270 You are very right about the impossible being possible. Especially for you, there's so much that must feel impossible right now but I bet you look back in a year and are smashing more than you ever thought you could going from this position. But that's why running is awesome, it teaches us we are capable of more than we ever thought possible. Cliché, but true.
@Stoshew71 Thanks for the link about speedwork for beginners, I'm going to try incorporating a bit of that starting after my HM this weekend.
@5512bf That would be really upsetting if you can't race what you wanted to, so fingers crossed you recover quickly.2 -
@lporter229
Race is next Sunday, frustrating part is training went very well, (4) 20+ long runs, 12, 14 & 16 mile pace runs, multiple fast finish long runs, etc. All indications were pointing to getting under that 4 hour mark fairly easily. Weird thing was that long run felt super easy cruising at 9:30-9:40 with HR still in Z2, then all of a sudden it wasn't so easy. *kitten* happens, there is always another day if it wasn't meant to be.0 -
9/30- finished up the month with another rest day (taper)
Total mileage for the month: 93 out of goal of 90. Made it!
I will have to do some calculation to come up with any kind of goal for October. My HM is on the 9th so I'll be tapering before and resting after so it won't be a big month at all.
Upcoming races:
9/18 CNY Bread Run Half, Fabius, NY (test run, long run with bling, not racing) 2:45:20
10/9 Empire State Half Marathon, Syracuse NY (official first half marathon) 9 days left!
11/13 Burn Run 5k or 10k, E. Syracuse NY (possibly - not signed up yet)
11/24 Turkey Trot 5k, Cedar Rapids IA (signed up!)
12/3 St. Nick Shuffle 5k, Syracuse NY
1/22 Chilly Chili 5k, Cazenovia NY

You're so very right. I do feel like everyday is impossible. But I know what I accomplished here in ~16 months. It wasn't easy. But I know it's possible. Just have to be willing to fight for the impossible. and that's what running has been about.3 -

^^ This got me so confused at first. I thought I was not supposed to do any speedwork, including the above, until I consistently run 30 mpw. So, I guess this is a "go" for trying out one of them say, once a week?
No, go for it. I would only suggest not doing it if you are in the mileage build up phase for miles per week that you never achieved before. In that case I would suggest all mileage be easy except maybe some strides or bursts. And regardless you could do those strides or bursts up to twice a week. Hill repeats I would only perform once a week.

Nominal Challenge Goal – 200 miles
Real Goals: Manage Rochester Marathon well as a race, recover quickly.
Today's notes – Final report of the month. I basically missed all my monthly goals, as I did not manage Rochester well enough to finish, have not recovered quickly, and as a consequence am coming nowhere near the nominal monthly mileage goal.
Today is Day 12 of No Running. I managed to jog up and down the hallway long enough for the eggs to cook. I think if my life depended on it, I could run a mile; but that would likely bang me up pretty bad and set me back quite a bit. So, no real run today. Maybe tomorrow, but probably not. I have two weeks to be ready to run 15K; that race could be a DNS, but I'm not ready to give up on it yet.

Just an easy run for about 40 min. today. I kind of wanted that Distance challenge badge on Strava, but couldn't reach 200km (~125mi) GPS-tracked distance. Probably better that I rested anyway, since my first 10k race is tomorrow morning.

Finished the month with 159 miles. Well short of 200 mile goal, but 3 unplanned rest days to let the legs and body recover from some nagging issues. Probably better than pushing it for goal. See you all in October.1 -
I decided that wisdom was the better part of valor, and that trying to get 23 miles done on 4 back-to-back days in the week immediately after my first HM was probably not a good idea just so I could reach my triple digit mileage goal, lol. Finishing the month on a nice round number though, and it's still 2 more miles than last month, so there's that!
This coming week I'll be starting my base mileage-building training plan, so I'm thinking when I calculate my October goal it should definitely hit at least 100 miles.
Currently shopping around for a November race, not sure what distance I want, might be thinking of doing a 5k just to see where my speed is at.
South Nyack 10 Miler – 9/11 – 1:43:24
Adirondacks Half Marathon – 9/25 – 2:09:58
Sleepy Hollow 10k – 10/22
November race???
