5:2, I believe - is 5 days of eating at maintenance at 2 days of eating very low calorie (I believe it was 500 or something for women? I'm not an expert on this!) Works well for a lot of people. For others, it can be tough. I personally struggled with the low calorie days but I wish you the best of luck0

It is a great tool to achieve a deficit and aid with diet compliance, for SOME people.0

If you're on facebook, there are several 5:2 and ADF groups. There is a 5:2 group here but it's not very active.0

Hate this fad. Just wirk5ing with someone that does it. Lol . Those 2 days they are a pain in butt. And not sustainable. Everyone i know thats done it has come off and gained all weight back. Find something that is long term and sustainable. I believe ut doesnt teach you good habits or relationship with food and eating so when u do come off it, which u will, youre worse off.0

This is a group on MFP for those who are following 5:2. We have a weekly thread for people to drop into during the week, members who'll give advice and links to information on 5:2.
I've been following it since early July and have found it pretty much sustainable. But as you can probably tell from the poster above, it's not for everyone

That's because these people ARE doing it as a fad. They aren't understanding exactly how and why it works or even considering if it's the right choice for them, they just do it because someone said it's awesome. Everything, including calorie counting, can be unsuccessful if done only as a fad without understanding what it takes to lose/maintain weight or how to modify habits to make them sustainable.
It can be a great sustainable tool to control calories for some. I have done it on and off for two years (the every other day version) and I keep coming back to it every time things get a bit hard, whenever I need higher days, or when I want to practice maintenance habits. I have not gained any weight back and I'm continuing to lose. For me, personally, it has been one of the greatest ways to build good habits and relationship with food and to understand what things are sustainable for maintenance and what things aren't.1
