Today's notes gimp report – It's raining. It's supposed to rain all day. But the temperature was a very reasonable 55° F (13° C), so I picked a time when it tapered down to a light shower and went out to test the recovering leg.
After Tuesday's 2 x 3 minute intervals, I decided to try 2 minute intervals today and see if I could do 3 of them. I actually did 4 x (2 minutes run easy, 1 minute walking recovery). At the end of the 4th walking interval, I felt like I could have stretched it to 5 running intervals; but I'm still running hurt, not normally. I decided to be conservative, since 4 x 2 minutes is 2 minutes more running than I've done this time through rehabbing myself. I was rewarded with having the aches in my lower left leg fade more quickly than they have after running intervals so far.
This is progress. It isn't unlimited, break out the champagne progress; but it's the right direction. Check the Garmin stats, and it says my pace in the running intervals was 8:49, 8:49, 8:44, and 8:49. That's a reminder that I'm not totally healthy yet; there's no way I would have kept it that consistently slow in full health.
Playing it day by day now. I expect tomorrow will be a rest day, but if the leg feels great I might go out for more intervals.

Well, my October 29 race is out. My son happens to have a drum recital on the same day at roughly the same time that I would be racing. SIGH.0
-
@mmteixeira Thanks for the suggestions. Yep, that was the same cookbook I bought too after
@7lenny7 Thank you. I'll check it out! Long runs are so much easier when I find something interesting to listen to.0 -

Aw, that little stinker! You'll get 'em next time, with new gear and be stronger!0 -

Drop him off, go run, and come back in time to tell him how good he did....HAHAHAHAHAHA
Seriously, sorry to hear that, but family comes first.2 -

Bummer!! My son may have an out of town soccer tournament the same day as my upcoming half marathon. I'm still doing my half marathon though! He plays soccer so much, I already paid for the HM, and it wasn't cheap.3 -
I'm thinking about starting my second cycle next week. Plan would be to finish the 2nd and 3rd weeks of this cycle with what I have planned for cycle. Basically just move things up by 3 weeks. Only real difference is I'd be adding 2 miles to the week. 1 each on my Tuesday and Saturday runs. I'm feeling good enough that I think I can do that without adverse effects. Then keep the schedule going as planned, with the normal caveats.0

I just stumbled upon this post, but am going to jump right in so that I don't miss the next challenge.
Earlier this month, I set a goal of 25 miles for October since I'm coming off of a longer race (TC 10 Mile). So far, I'm at a whopping 12 miles - yeah, so I ran that race...
Anyway, I'll be ramping up again in November since it's the start of marathon training for me - did I really just say that out loud?
Looking forward to chatting with fellow runners9 -

Last year my HM fell on the same day that Skip would have run state if she qualified, she said what if I make State, I said I'm sure someone will drive you there.
sorry for the conflict @respectthekitty
@shanaber hope the knee gets 100% soon.3 -
10/1....12 miles.
10/4....3 miles.
10/7....1.62 miles treadmill. Total..16.62 miles
10/8....13.1 (Indianapolis Half Marathon....average pace 11:58
10/9...Colts game...beer and a large pretzel....mistake...lots of swelling in left ankle.
10/10...work
10/11...6 miles run, mixing up fast sprints, easy run, fartleks...felt good but unable to muster a fast pace or increase heart rate much above 90% max heart rate. The half marathon took a lot out of me.
10/16...8 miles at very, very slow pace...averaged 73% max heart rate.
10/19....8 miles at very, very slow pace.....unable to share heart rate due to heart rate monitor malfunctioning, but I ran almost 13 minutes slower than 10/16...so pretty sure that I was at maximum of 73% max heart rate....this run was after working 4 out of 5 nights at work, and only 3 hours of sleep before the run.
Total...51.72
Goal...75 miles.
5/6/17....Indianapolis Mini-marathon
I will try to catch up with all of the posts...I am only 9 pages behind. I am working tonight as well....so maybe this weekend.....

Lazed in bed this morning reading debate recaps and put off my run to this evening, and I'm actually really glad I did. My calves were feeling kind of tight this morning but they were fine by the time I got off work so my run was probably far more enjoyable tonight than it would have been if I'd done it in the morning.
My 8 solo miles were fairly speedy at an 8:15 pace overall with some decent elevation; my 6.2 miles with my group were slower at a 9:04 pace but that was much chattier and also in the dark. And splitting it up into 8 + 6 (and the 6 miles were 2 separate loops with a break in between to regroup!) made it feel like it was far fewer than 14 miles, which was great. Finally feeling like I'm getting my groove back after the roving soreness from Sunday's race, so I'm looking forward to some long weekend runs!
Upcoming Races:
10/8: Coe College Homecoming 5k: 21:26

@kristinegift sounds like 2 great runs!0

Feeling a strong urge to run - and run - and run. I even thought about doing a spontaneous half marathon with no training whatsoever. Yeah, stress may be getting to me. Maybe I'll add a few extra walking miles to my run tomorrow and wear myself out.5

@emmab0902 - congrats! So many medals!
@HeatherMN - welcome!
@MobyCarp - Glad you are starting to get some miles in and doing it intelligently. (not that I can claim the same).
Rest day for me. My hard head has finally acknowledged I do need rest days and I will get stronger by allowing my body to recover. Plus I have a hilly bike ride on Sunday in Gainesville. Only 55 miles but when you add hills it will be probably as difficult as the 100 miler I did last month.

Total Miles So Far: 52 miles running
So last night I went out for what was supposed to be a 5 mile easy run - instead I focused of form more than anything else and ended up running 4 miles but with some small changes - I focused more on keeping my stride more compact - keeping my feet under my body more - basically trying to refrain from overstriding. My run felt a little different than how I have been running these last 5 months.
I counted my cadence as I ran at different speeds. My 5K pace for the last race was a 9:00 minute mile. Last night I counted my cadence at 10:30, 10:00 and 9:30 and each time it was between 180 and 190 - which is where I believe I want to be. I did notice the pads of my feet got a little more tired than usual, which might indicate landing on the right part of my foot. My legs did get a bit sore for the first time in a long time, so I used the muscles a little differently last night than usual. Without video it's hard to know if the change is the right thing, but cadence count was where I believe I want it to be.
I did get the MilestonePod yesterday so I will try that during my long run on Sunday and see what that tells me about how I run...1 -
I set up my goal too low for this month. I'm at 50.3 with a goal of 60. Not sure where I'll end up at the end. Long runs are getting longer and I think I need to start experimenting with fuel. Did 8.5 miles on Wednesday and I was light-headed by the end. I sure wish I didn't have to eat anything on my runs. My stomach is pretty sensitive during and right after long runs.
@RespectTheKitty Sorry about your race. There is a 5K in Downer's Grove next day, 10/30 in the morning. My friend ran it last year. I believe that's pretty close to Villa Park. Something to consider2 -

Started out rough this morning and didn't really think I was even going to make two miles. But then, after about a quarter mile or so, I settled in and it actually felt pretty good. I ended up running 5K total. My husband came with again. He has been heading out with me every other day since the beginning of the week. It will be nice if he keeps at it. I get a partner on some days and get some alone time on the others which is just perfect for me. It looks like I will have no trouble hitting my October goal. I am trying to decide on mileage for November. I want to increase but am a bit wary about pushing too hard. Right now am at around 2.25 miles per day and I am hoping to build up to 5k per day by the end of November.
1 -
I am taking a rest day today and will have a smaller long run tomorrow morning than usual.
Next week I will see if it made a big difference and see if a lot of my strength comes back.
What I think I will need to do now is not only track my miles, but how many of those splits are above and below VT.
I think I have been consistently pushing slightly too many splits just a little bit too hard and it eventually caught up to me.5
