I have made something similar, but instead of sausage I used extra lean ground beef, chicken or turkey cooked with some spices. And instead of 2 cans of mushroom soup, I used 1 can mixed with 1 cup of light sour cream. I used a light mix of cheese also. This brought the calories down somewhat & my grandkids loved it too!

    Here is a low-cal version:

    1. Prepare as directed EXCEPT steam some cauliflower also.
    2. When serving, put only the cauliflower on your plate and eat that instead.
    3. Never EVER try to make a low-cal version of this delicious goodness again.

I love that every so often this recipe will float to the top again. I need to buy some tater tots.

    It's an important recipe

If I dont live in a trailer can I still make it? Is the suggested condiment ketchup?
What a ignorant comment.. In our part of the country we call you a snob.. Have friends in trailer and probably a lot nicer than you...

I used to live in a trailer and thought the comment was funny.

In our Illinois home we had Mom's Tater Tot Casserole like this:

1 lb ground beef, cooked and drained, pressed into the bottom of a baking dish,
then a layer of tater tots to cover it evenly,
then 1 can of Campbell's cheddar cheese soup spread evenly on top of everything.

Some times she'd add a bag of frozen mixed veggies to the beef after it was cooked. Yum!
