Nah, eating 5000 in 30 minutes is pretty easy. Binges of that size take a lot less time than that ;)

Still involves butter, though, I'm thinking, just like some of the torching strategies. ;)

More likely than 5000 for sure and maybe possible but not really possible for the average person

Absolutely possible and a lot more really. I do agree the average person won't burn that many during a typical workout, though. Of course, the obvious reason I picked 500 is because it is 1 zero less.

What are you doing that burns a lot more than 500 calories in 30 minutes?

There is list from harvard in the link above. It only goes up to a 185 pound person but even at that weight, one of the activities is jogging.

Running a 37 minute 10k is hardly jogging plus their numbers are inflated compared to the usual running formula

Weight loss for a community of Elephants?
    Or burning down a pizzeria?

So, according to them, one can lose approximately 68lbs a day.
    Yeah, no.

0.63*bw*number of miles so 0.63*185*5=582.75 not 700 + and 5 miles in 30 minutes is pretty fast.

What is it with people's need to try and argue everything?

I said 500 is more likely than 5000. It is. Harvard Medical says it is absolutely possible. Nobody has said it is easy or that everyone can do it.

Still people want to argue. SMH

But.....there is only one 500 or more calorie burn on that list, and it's a 185 pound firefighter.

The list of activities is overestimated, just like most internet sources that render calorie burns. They are the reason that people don't always eat all their exercise calories back.

Except as I said it's inflated and sorry I am going to point out inflation since overestimating calorie out is a big problem on this site.

    Chad,

You may SYH, but the list you provided are inflated numbers. People are telling you those numbers are not accurate. For example, that chart says someone between 125 and 155 can burn between 270 and 330 calories running 5.2 miles in a half hour.

So, that means me, being 140 pounds who runs faster at an average of 5.5 to 6.0 mph, should be able to burn much more than that. Right?

Well, I will tell you based on consistent results, I know for a fact that I burn between 280 and 300 calories in a 40 minute run, which means I would come in at about 210 to 240 for a half hour. There's a big difference even between 210 and 270, which can kill a deficit for anyone who eats their exercise calories back.
