Depends on your goals and needs. Some people don't like training with the carb deprivation due to a decrease in workout performance. There are also different variations of LC diets. I am using the keto diet which trains your body to use fat for fuel. I have had good results so far and have noticed increased energy and I have lost 6lbs in the first two weeks. With keto though, you don't want too much protein as your body can break it down into carbs/sugar.
From what I have read there are mixed ideas on how long to be on a low carb diet, some believe eating all the extra fat can be unhealthy. I will probably go through keto phases once I hit my target weight. If you have more questions about LC diets check out the group

Life if you don't want to gain it all back. Gotta make a change that you like and works for you!1

I live the low carb life and there are big caveats. Can you truly hack it as a way of life? It is worth it if you can sustain it lifetime and enjoy it as a way of eating. If not simply counting calories is likely a better approach than a macro restriction you don't intend to maintain (as that would maintenance in and of itself more difficult and likely lead to regaining).0

Very few do low carb with high protein. Most go with low carb and high fat. Often easier and more satisfying, not to mention healthy.
How long can you do it? As long as you like. I've been LCHF for about 18 months and I can't see any reason to give up the benefits that I've experienced.0 -
I did it when I was 17, lost about 100 pounds in a year, but I didn't know anything about calories or nutrition, so once I quit, I gained it all back. Plus, I don't want to live eating so much fat and protein all the time. I enjoy just counting calories and eating whatever I want. But it does work for some and they can make it a lifestyle.0

I did it for a couple months and it worked well for me. Gradually increased carbs afterwards and I'm not obese yet.0
