Hello everyone. I'm Kate, 20 years old. Height is 5'1 weighing 47kgs or 103 lbs. Perfect BMI right? Hehe My Basal Metabolic Rate is 1295 calories. It means that my body burns 1295 calories while at rest, doing nothing. That burn is possible with 12 hours fasting, it means to eat the exact time next day with the time you have eaten last night (12 hours ago).
The key to maintaining your weight while eating any foods you like is to EATWELL 5 DAYS OF THE WEEK. This means to eat nutritious/whole foods under your daily calorie intake based on your body mass Index(BMI). My daily calorie intake to maintain my weight is 1650 calories or less though that's not case because there would be days where I over indulge like eating a 165g cadbury bar before I go to sleep or 10pcs ferrero rocher in one sitting and you won't believe this I'd eat that at night when its time for my body to rest! haha! But anyway, that only happened once okay. Then on the weekends its time to reward yourself with a double cheese burger or a pizza or spaghetti Bolognese yum yum! Anything you like as long as you do not exceed 3500 calories in one day of eating because that would equate to 1 pound of fat. In English, you'd gain weight. Lastly, drink lots of water. Me I do drink 2 liters a day. Water nourishes and hydrates the skin making you look beautiful and glowing and helps to keep you full. Thanks for reading and have a great day!

If you're trying to say to work on a weekly average caloric intake to maintain weight, yes. There are some other things in there that sound confusing. And you can eat more than 3500 calories in a day and not gain fat depending on your TDEE and your average calorie intake across the week.7

Uh, no thanks.
I prefer to eat well 7 days a week.
Feedback - your plan sounds horribly restrictive (most of the time) and dangerously close to binge/restrict cycles.9 -
That's you. Its me. Im just sharing ways on how to maintain a weight.1

What time of day you ingest foods (even high calories items like chocolate) has no relevance to weight loss or gain. Even eating before bed. Your metabolism doesn't suddenly switch off just because you're asleep. If it did, you'd not wake up the next day.12

OP, it's great if this way of eating works for you, but it's not going to work for everyone. Fasting for any length of time would make me very unhappy and grumpy , so I eat starting at about 6am and then every couple of hours after that.
Also, eating anything I wanted up to 3500 calories two days a week would erase my small deficit and I'd never lose any weight at all.
And while hydration is important for general health, it really doesn't have anything to do with weight loss.
It's great when we find a way of eating that works for us and helps us to reach our goals, but it's important to remember that what works for me isn't necessarily going to work for anybody else. And proselytizing is annoying.

If that was your intention then I'm afraid you totally failed to put that across.
It comes across as telling everyone to maintain the way you do.4 -

Hello Kate, I'm Sue and I'm more than twice your age
Height is 5'1 weighing 47kgs or 103 lbs. Perfect BMI right?
My height is 5'8, weighing 73kg, 160lbs. Also a perfect BMI, different from yours, still perfect. Cos it's a range

i don't know why your BMR is relevant, it's just a building block to calculating your TDEE, mine is closer to 1500 and when I eat has no impact on it
The key to maintaining your weight while eating any foods you like is to EATWELL 5 DAYS OF THE WEEK. This means to eat nutritious/whole foods under your daily calorie intake based on your body mass Index(BMI).
I eat nutritious food every single day, I also eat foods you might consider as not eating well, but they are because my nutritional minimums have been met and I really enjoy ice cream, chips and cookies as part of my balanced diet. I ensure I eat at my TDEE over time because this is maintenance
My daily calorie intake to maintain my weight is 1650 calories or less though that's not case because there would be days where I over indulge like eating a 165g cadbury bar before I go to sleep or 10pcs ferrero rocher in one sitting and you won't believe this I'd eat that at night when its time for my body to rest! haha!
when you eat is irrelevant, its calories over time that count.
But anyway, that only happened once okay.
thats fine I grant you absolution, not that you need it because it doesn't matter

your maths is skewiff...it doesn't matter that 3500 is a rough estimate of calories leading to a lb fat gain or loss. It matter what your TDEE is and whether over time you eat at, over or below it
In English, you'd gain weight. Lastly, drink lots of water. Me I do drink 2 liters a day. Water nourishes and hydrates the skin making you look beautiful and glowing and helps to keep you full.
waters good, drink until your urine is pale straw for adequate hydration
Thanks for reading and have a great day!
well aren't you a ray of sunshine. I did, now it's nighttime and I'm about to have coffee and cake ..cos cake ..you have a good one13 -
Hi Kate,
I'm glad you found something that works for you, but I'm even more than twice your age and I've learned that too many rules and restrictions and I don't mix very well.
I've lost 92 pounds eating "kryptonite" foods and waffle back and forth between wanting to lose a few more and deciding I'm good where I am and wanting to maintain right now at a BMI of 21.5.
If I decide to maintain, I'll do what I've been doing all along because I know it works for me. I'll count calories and work in foods I enjoy every now and then when I want them.5 -
OP it is great you have found something that works for you - much of what you describe is sensible, like not cutting out foods you love in order to lose or maintain your weight.
However, much of what you describe is based in pseudoscience, or really, just a matter of personal preference including the timing of your meals, how you balance your calories during the week, saving your "kryptonite" foods for the weekend, etc.
Some of it is an incorrect interpretation of the science - such as how BMR impacts your calorie requirements (really pretty irrelevant - TDEE is what matters) and that you can eat anything up to 3,500 cals in a day and won't gain weight. That's a misinterpretation of the common statement that it takes 3,500 calories above maintenance to gain 1 lb of fat. So it's entirely possible to exceed a total calorie consumption of 3,500 in a day, and still be in a deficit for the week, or in maintenance for the week. It all comes down to individual numbers.

Wat?
None of this makes any sense. How very confusing. Wouldn't it make better sense to eat at a slight deficit (slightly below TDEE) for the week then eat a little more than maintenance (TDEE) on the weekend, or, you know, eat maintenance (your TDEE) every day and eat nutritious and treat foods every day?
1. M-F you eat a maintenance. The time of day you eat chocolate or any food makes no difference to weight loss, maintaining or gaining. Chocolate/sugar are not the cause of weight gain....
2. Weekend: You eat 3500 calories or below. Since your actual maintenance calories (as you mentioned) are 1650, you're eating 1850 above your maintenance on weekends. ???? . If I were to eat up to 3500 calories, I would gain as my maintenance or TDEE is 1700 at sedentary and 2200 with exercise.6 -
All I can say is I am Kate's height and weight but 3x her age and if I had 2 days at 3500 cals I would put on over 1 lbs a week.
I would also be totally miserable and overstuffed those days.
I like maintaining by eating the foods I like, when I like, in portions that are suitable for me. Oh and including a couple of glasses of wine.
Works a treat.
Cheers, h.0 -
I worry about OP. She is young and may be able to get by with this at her age but it's really not about "getting by". It's about changing lifestyle, being fit and eating healthy most of the time. It's an attitude change and one that, by degrees, becomes pretty natural. I am 5'0" and also 3x that age. I have been on maintenance for over two years and although that may work for her, it would not for me. My body would rebel against that amount of calories in all kinds of ways, not to mention gaining, too. I also think people need to be kinder on her when they reply. I think OP was only trying to be helpful to others. We can let her know gently why this concerns us.0

What's going on around here? No... just no.0

You're 20. Hit my age and then come back and tell if that's still working for you.
Personally I eat what ever I want, but I count calories and exercise pretty intensely daily to increase the amount of food I can consume.

Not going to sound like a parrot here, but CICO is all you need to maintain weight or lose weight or even to gain weight. It matters not what you eat, when you eat it, or how often you eat it. If you eat the same number of calories as your TDEE you will maintain your weight. If you eat less than your TDEE you will lose weight. More, and you'll gain weight. It's that simple. I've maintained my weight for the last five months and have eaten ice cream, fried foods, candy bars, fast food, high sodium BBQ, you name it. Granted, I count my calories still but that's because I want to stay within my goals to maintain. It works.7
