Friend request purgatory

I have no problem adding friends - for motivation, support, or even entertainment. But I've got a dozen requests sitting in my box I don't know what to do with...they "wierd me out" in one way or another. Do you just let them sit there and add up, or do you actually deny them? What usually happens then? Do they re-request? I haven't found a good solution, and that little red number is growing

Just delete if you have no intention to accept them.

Sounds simple enough - they won't get a message "You have been denied"? I don't want that...

Just let them sit. I've denied requests before only to have them send another request.

    I just delete them.

That's what I'm wondering - the mechanics of MFP. I wish there was a "delete and block" option or something so the same people don't just keep popping up

I just made a decision, as to what my acceptance standards're & apply it, to everyone! I dislike friend requests, without messages; from those that I've never interacted with but I realize that sometimes, they were unable to include a message. So I search their Username, for threads that I've commented within; to help distinguish a reasoning for their request!

If it isn't optional to include a message, with a friend request; then I'd prefer they PM their friend request instead!

I'm clear on what I accept. What do you do with the ones you've decided not to accept? Delete? Just leave them to sit there?

I just delete them because otherwise, I'd possibly forget how many I had; that I didn't accept & might miss 1, that I'd like to accept. Also I dislike unnecessary clutter!

Agreed on the clutter issue - I guess that's my real problem. I want to delete the clutter, but not if they are going to keep popping back up anyway.

I would just remove the request - I mean worst case they send again, but really it only takes seconds to remove a request! I would think thats better than having multiples sitting there you have no intention of accepting.

You're right. I think I just get easily creeped out by "repeating" requests...although it probably means nothing and they might not even remember they sent a request before. I think I'm over thinking it.

We are here to give and get motivation and sometimes suggestion and opinions. Go with your gut feeling. If you feel that person can be helpful and his/her's dairy looks pertaining to your interest than accept otherwise.......

I used to be all OCD about it and deny or accept right away. Then it got built up like a junk email box. I'm horrible. I need to go empty them out. I think there's 100 or more. I'm a crappy friend. :confounded:

Some will for a 2nd time, due to assuming that you didn't receive their request; after all technology does glitch but it's rare that you'd get a 3rd request, from the same person; unless they're stalkers!

Excellent point. A second request shouldn't weird me out too much  That's actually a really good way of looking at it

I have zero friends on here a few pending with me no intentions of accepting coz I don't log my food anymore Im not so good in supporting people and I don't post anything on my wall. I respond on chit chat or pms no need for friends list

I was on MFP for 2 years before I did any "friending" of any kind - and I was totally unaware of the message boards. It's definitely not necessary to have a friend list. I don't do an open diary so I honestly don't know what the benefit would be of being my MFP friend, but I like to offer support to those who want it

I highly doubt your'e a crappy friend just because you don't clear out your request box lol...people need to redefine "friend" I think

Thank you! Also some people delete their accounts, they begin a new account and/or create another account after being banned, so that might cause someone already on your friend list; to send another friend request via another account!

A rejection message doesn't get sent when you decline a friend request.
It shouldn't be an imposition to accept or decline a request from a virtual stranger - just do it.

I tend to be picky and only accept friends with a clear overlap of interests / age / location / sense of humour etc.. - I'm at the limit of the number of friends I can keep up with and have no desire to be overwhelmed with updates from people I rarely interact with.

I hope it doesn't offend people I decline but it's everyone's prerogative who they befriend.

I think I'm starting to get it. Some people just throw friend requests and see what sticks. It probably won't even make it onto anyones radar that they were declined - and I'm really glad that MFP doesn't send rejection notifications. Thats something I wasn't clear on
