Beer as a meal.

Sometimes I just drink a beer for lunch. It has about 150 calories or so (I never drink light beer), and the nutritionals aren't terrible. One seems to hold me just fine. Am I the only one?

My husband eats breakfast and drinks beer all afternoon, then has dinner. So you could say he has beer for lunch.. Not the healthiest choice imo.3

If he ate that many chicken breasts it wouldn't be very good, either. OTOH, some beers were developed by ancient monks to be consumed during fasts for "a meal in a bottle."3

Keep on believing that if it makes you feel better I've heard people compare Guinness to a meal in a bottle.1 -
I am baffled why my beer doesn't have the Nutrition Facts label on the back.1

I'm sticking to my story. Beer, at least the beer I buy, is a natural food that's been around for thousands of years and fills me up without THAT many calories. The biggest drawback is that almost all the calories are carbohydrates which doesn't help my wife with her lo carb diet. She makes up for it by eating bacon and eggs for breakfast that would wreck my low fat diet.1

What are your other meals like? This isn't going to give you all the nutrients your body needs.1 -

Bacon, eggs, and beer. Breakfast of champions.1 -

Australia is awesome apparently. None of the UK or US beer in my fridge tells me if it helps meet my protein goals.1 -
My other two meals are pretty balanced. The totals are about 1500 - 2000 calories with about the right levels of macronutrients. I give myself an evening snack that is usually peanut butter on a toasted sandwich round (high total fat but most of the fats are unsaturated "good" fats) or a bowl of grape nuts with soy milk.0

None of the tasty beers have that info, only the ones that are marketing themselves as the healthier alternative.1 -
My GF beer has a nutrition label...0

I don't really drink, but I've had higher calorie Starbucks drinks in place of meals.1

The "full flavour - no compromise" bit is a lie. Tastes nothing like real beer. Like Reschs. Or Carlton Draught.0

I dont think he cares.... As long as it contains alcohol
All beer tastes the same to me.0 -
I like craft beers. Some of them are over 250 calories a bottle but I don't care. I'm only going to drink one and I want something special.1

I'm the same. I really appreciate a good craft beer I can savour.0 -
Healthwise = probably not ideal
Calorie-wise = fine
If it fits your calorie goal then what you decide to eat or drink is up to you.3 -
Can't say doing this won't ever happen when I am vacation or on holiday.. If I smelled like beer going back to work after consuming this for lunch might get me in trouble. I save this for the after 5:00 party.
But however you want to consume your calories is always just down to personal preference.1 -

Because it's not required by law.0 -
lollll alot of days i drink wine for dinner2

If you are getting plenty of nutrients in your other meals, 150 calories (or even 250) obviously is no big deal. If you want to call it lunch instead of dessert I don't think it matters much.1

Pop a multi-vitamin and you're good to go.1

This is a great idea. However, I don't drink alcohol, so I'll drink Monster instead. The Low Carb version only has 10 calories, so I can drink 10 of them and it will only cost me 100 calories. Brilliant.0

Here is the truth about alcohol
1. Your body (liver) can clear about an ounce an hour in that hour your burning alcohol calories not protein fat carb calories because its trying to remove the alcohol from your body. One shot not that big of a deal six even light beers equal to one shot each alcohol wise but more calories were now at more than likely 20% of your daily intake (60 calories a shot x 6 shots= 360 calories) and 25% of the time your bodies ability to burn fat and build muscle (25% of 24 hours is 6 shots). When your body is working on removing alcohol from your body its less likely to utilize protein and fats to build muscle and support hormone needs so they just turn to calories which store as Fat in a surplus
My point beer/liquor a great release but to build muscle and lose fat you would be better off removing it during a cut and not going overboard the rest of your diet. Once your Goals are met it can surely be added into your caloric expenditure within reason

I cut alcohol out of my diet because I like eating food more.1

I'm down to one IPA a day. more on the weekends when I'm off, of course. My doctor said there's nothing wrong with beer, as long as they are not real dark. Wife thinks I'm lying....:) Funny thing-when I drink a lot of beer on the weekend, come Monday weigh in I always have lost 2 lbs.!!!! Dig It!!!!!!0

I see alot of OLD drunks not a lot of old Doc's so life well lived right..lol. The reason your lighter is because your dehydrated.
Another note your body repairs its self while sleeping so if your going to bed drunk more than likely not repairing as well as you could be.
10 monsters a day Damm you have to be FLYING HIGH $2 each times ten times 365 days a year $7300 Glad I drink free coffee at work.

I log alcohol under 'Snacks.' And I just make sure I meet my calorie/macro guidelines for the day, with the majority of my calories coming from a variety of healthy sources. I've lost an average of 2lbs/week for the past 16 weeks, so it's working well so far.1
