*Horse blinders* ...living, loving (trying to) our lives, our days!
Ahh, my aunt who I havent spoken with in a while, who's son (my cousin) died a few years ago (29 y/o) said to me yesterday "enjoy your day!" and I obviously extrapolated it into a whole "thing"...like ya - (my days have been hard and 2.5 hours sleep type stuff, shakey, not being able to talk proper...but *I'm not dead yet!!!* Guilt? Hope? Alive?)
..been my 'mantra' ..."enjoy your day"...all day...anxiety was in check (ish)...maybe b/c of the fatigue?
Was thinking insomnia and fatigue may be the answer...b/c I cant even concentrate enough to care anymore?
...Day 4
Hopefully you get some sleep! Insomnia truly sucks *kitten*.1 -
I woke up with a smile on my face. That happens like once every three months 🙂4

How do I survive that last day of the week ?3

I see my 76 yo sister surviving on about the same amount of sleep as you're getting. Girl, you need MORE!!! Seriously. She can hardly string together enough words to make a sentence. May your life change soon to allow you more of a 'normal' life. ((Hugs))3 -
(Coming from an introvert who hates being outside for more than 90 seconds...) What a great, happy place club parties around the world are going to be once the pandemic is finally over.1

I've been working on this project for a long time. The original PI in charge left for a new job about 6 months in, and they put this fresh out of post doc new guy in charge of it. I don't think he is getting the supervision he needs from the other scientists, and IMO he isn't reaching out to them for help as much as he should be (which I have mentioned to both parties to no avail). I have more on the job experience, but he has a higher degree and higher position. Alot of his ideas and conclusions just make no sense to me, so I feel like I should question him when that happens, but then I wonder if he feels like I'm a giant pain in the *kitten* and keep undermining him or whatever. I just hate this project and this situation....3

Not sure how to say this nicely...but, umm, graduate degrees don't guarantee the holder of said degree has sense. Especially beyond the scope of their degree and "book learning." Yet...
Perhaps get to know him as a person and his thought processes. He may be bringing a fresh POV to your workplace, which is cool but there's a lot to be said for your experience.
Neither of you is to be underestimated.

It would be a failure on his part to not see your questions and concerns as opportunities. If he is a true leader then he should address your questions and see them as grow for him and yourself.
And I agree with MaltedTea; just because someone has a higher degree doesn't mean they can use that knowledge in a real life application. Not to mention social skills; I've met plenty of PHd peoples who cannot interact with the general population. The new guy we hired just a couple of weeks ago fresh out of university didn't know how to address an envelop or how to email an open spreadsheet.4 -
You can have the answers to everything but still not be able to do anything.4

I work directly with two of them.
One is one of the smartest people I've ever worked with; the other is so stupid I don't even know how he dresses himself in the morning.3 -

Yeah I was taken aback as well, but I also realize the disconnect is that most millenials have never had to address an envelop or write in cursive.1 -

I am baffled as well. But, I am an old soul for a millennial, I still use a checkbook and everything!2 -
A couple things:
- Aggravated at how hard it is to get parents to volunteer for an organization that their kids are part of. Uhm, we volunteers are parents too and can't run all the fun activities for your kiddos if you don't get off your butt and help. We are ALL equally as busy and facing the same or similar situations. Even in a normal year, this is always a pain in the butt.
- That being the case, the organization I help run is at risk of collapse because no one will step up who hasn't already and myself and a couple of others are transitioning out (either moving to another group or in my case, moving to another country). If no one fills my position, the organization cannot continue. I have made this PLAINLY obvious since July when I announced I would have to step down and yet.. crickets. I am just beyond frustrated. I've already had a few of our volunteers step up and take on additional jobs (that they shouldn't have to do) because none of the other parents will. They just bring their kids and expect the rest of us to babysit and entertain their kids for an hour or so with little to NO involvement.
- Having dealt with this for over a year, I'm honestly burnt out. I mentioned in July I would have to step down and I put in again last night that if they did not find a suitable replacement, they could not remain as a group and would have to disband (I am currently the committee chair, so they need one to recharter with the national organization to be recognized). Myself and two other current volunteers are stepping down (they're transitioning to a different group), so that really, REALLY puts a strain on the remaining volunteers. I had to call our district executive this morning to let him know and sadly, it seems like this is a COMMON problem. To me, that's just... sad. And this year is just compounded by the whole pandemic and lack of new members (we chose not to recruit because we didn't want to inundate our few remaining volunteers). The parents KNOW that the organization only works when they help out, but gah.. it's like they don't give a *kitten*.
- Obviously, this is no longer fun or fulfilling, which means it was time to step down anyway. It's really been nothing but aggravating since I stepped into the role. I just hope the district executive and remaining volunteers can find a suitable replacement when I leave in a month. I like what we offer for kids and I really loved planning the big activities for the group.
So I guess what's on my mind is a rant that's been 6 months coming.5 -

I write "thank you" postcards. Does that count? I keep a giant stack of postcards from ALL the places I've ever visited and just pick a random one for my note to send someone. Also, postcard stamps = cheaper than standard stamp, lol.3 -

Fo Sho! I’d mail you one, but you know, awkwarrrrd, so here you go.
@KosmosKitten
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to you for sending thank you postcards.
In this age of electronic communication, it costs nearly nothing, no more than the short amount of a grateful persons time and a little effort, to say Thank You for something that you may have spent a great amounting of time, consideration, effort, and money making it special for that person.
You go above and beyond what many people do and take the time and effort to hand write a thank you note on a post card, write in the recipients address, write your own return address, then spend money to ship it.
This sounds so simple but means so much. Especially since you choose the particular From all the places you’ve collected them from for each individual.
Thank You,
Me.7 -
Sitting here sipping my morning coffee and thinking about how the world has changed. Who could ever have predicted this.
Im also thinking about the online grocery order I have to pick up this morning and the goodies contained therein. Its that kind of like Christmas feel because I can't remember a lot of what I ordered so there'll be lots of surprises 😆
Its kind of sad that going to pick up the groceries nowadays has got me so excited.
I MISS THE WORLD THE WAY IT WAS😔5 -

A select few of youins can come where I am in 2 weeks. A select few because we don’t need this county where we have about 1 person per ~.75 square miles all coronad and yankeed up.
Life’s the same as it was. But, it may be a bit slower than what you’re used to.3 -

I know I'm lucky because where I live in the country there's not been a positive case since April ( there were 2 in my town)
And only a small handful in the town I shop in, none there now either for a long time. But Covid has still touched us all .. masks, handsanitiser, limits of people in stores, people distancing etc. Im a really social person I talk to everyone friends and strangers alike... I just miss people the way they were.. people don't really want to talk the way they used to, its head down and go about your business.
I feel like I'm the extrovert in a room full of introverts 😬
So yeah, this mornings thoughts I guess were just mourning the loss of what was.. I’ll embrace what is to come no matter what happens Im adaptive but that doesn'tmean I won't moan about it occasionally. 😁

A friend shared this lovely Christian woman's post about dropping off your mail in ballots to cast your vote.
Following her directions I looked up exactly where these locations were in LA County alone ... They're literally EVERYWHERE. Why on earth wait in line or risk the USPS drama.
