How many hours should I wait before I can eat after working out?

I usually eat a protein bar pre and post workout. There is no need to wait, and some actually say it's beneficial to get some protein within the 30-minutes or so after a lift session.1

yeah, i'm with the 'eat when you like' crowd. i've done it all ways, not as part of any doctrine but just out of disorganization or other factors. none of them is permanently damaging, and you find out pretty quickly which approach is the best one for you.1

I time my Sunday workouts to get back for Sunday lunch just as the yorkshires are coming out the oven. Sometimes I get a text with a 20 min warning to make sure I'm home in time to chow down
Have I mentioned my husband rocks?1 -

I noticed that!
I think the only reason you might want to wait a few minutes after a workout is if it happened to be particularly hard and you felt a little queasy. In a situation like that, you might want to rest a few moments before eating.0 -
You want to catch your breath before eating so you don't choke on something.0

I personally can't eat right after a workout. I'll have a protein shake, then dinner later on.1
