No scale? No problem, just eat a little less than you are now.

Um so eat less than 1200 calories per day? Are you nuts? One day even was 1000 calories because of abdominal pain from not using the bathroom... So tell someone who has a history of eating disorders (IE me) to go eat less than healthy. Good job!!! I have done this MANY times as I stated. I know how to measure and log my food.

One question about this...in your OP, you said you eat 1200 calories, and no more than 1600. Are you netting 1200 calories? Because if you're only eating 1200 calories gross and not eating back at least some of your exercise calories (given that you're losing 3 lbs/wk at your current size, I suspect I know the answer already), then it's basically the same as eating less than 1200 calories. At 210 lbs, losing 3 lbs/wk is too aggressive.

Just trying to help you. If you are not losing at 1200 calories and are not weighing your food then you are eating more hen you think.

    Exactly this.

@Verity1111, I think you need a little patience because weight loss is not linear, and weight naturally fluctuates.

If you are not losing weight over time, your calorie estimations are off enough for you to maintain weight rather than lose. I suggest weighing all your food, logging everything you consume, and making sure you have correct entries.

With your stats, if you were truly eating 1200-1500 calories and exercising, you would be losing weight. :)

Weight loss is not linear. You cannot expect to lose every single week. There are too many other factors involved. Be more patient.

If you don't have a scale, you haven't been eating 1200. I know this for a fact. I was scale-less for a few months and thought I was being great eyeballing and measuring..but I didn't lose any weight. When I finally got a scale, WOW... I was really underestimating my intake by 500 calories which was enough to put my smack-bang into maintenance.

And if it is water weight, don't stress it.

BUT, she's losing 3lbs per week and before this week lost 10lbs in three weeks. At 210lbs that's quite a deficit. I know how little I'd have to be netting when I was that weight to lose anything like that amount. Though I can see the merits in a food scale if it helps her eat MORE and not overestimate or overlog calories.

Yeah I'm not purposefully exercising this time because my weight "stalls" when I workout. What everyone else said too. As for a "cheat day" or two, a month not a week, I think will be helpful for me, having just cheated massively for 3 days but am only 1lb away from the pre Thanksgiving weight. May hit it tomorrow, which would exactly meet my expectations of needing 3 days to lose water and whatnot from holiday eating.

In any case, I've read on here that some people find eating at maintenance helpful as a break once in awhile. By the way, I've lost successfully without a scale before, lost the first 20, took a long break and am now back at it. I'm using a scale here and there and you know what? Turns out I was actually eating less then I thought I was. Who knew? I did suspect when I worked out before that I might not actually be eating enough nutritious food to recover from my workouts, leading to even more water retention? Cortisol levels out of whack? Not getting enough recovery sleep?

You have a history with ED and are currently in a contest to lose weight? You've successfully lost weight "many" times, but don't understand that normal, healthy weight loss is not linear? You've lost 10 lbs in the last 3 weeks? Sounds like you would benefit most from a deep breath and some education in health & fitness.

you didn't address this comment OP - you have an eating disorder but are in a weight loss contest??????

Im already recovered. I HAD an eating disorder. Im 210 lbs. Eating disorder or not I am not healthy right now so I need to lose weight. Just because I am susceptible doesnt mean I cant live my life. But Im still susceptible enough that if Im eating 1200calories and keep being told to eat less I might panic and do it. I know logically I shouldnt so I am trying not to listen to that advice.

This is what I was trying to say. Thank you! Because I have a past ED I do not want to turn to a scale unless I 100% NEED to. It can lead to obsession...I know this for a fact. Plus Im so broke. lol. You have no idea. Lol. Yes maybe I need to eat more. I was eating what I thought was around 1200 calories but who knows.

In all fairness, how would she know this from your OP?

You have a new workout routine = water retention

You have digestive issues = increased weight until your next BM

You have been losing fast and you know that you are pushing it too hard. You know that you are taking risks of falling into your old habits. Have some patience and slow it down. Be kinder to your self and your body.

I feel she would know because I said in my original post I do not need help measuring my food. I specified it for a reason because I was hoping since it's a help forum they'd answer the questions I needed help with not just start saying things I said will not apply... especially since I have ED issues. I dont need to go below where I am now. I don't feel I am falling into old habits at all because I have fasted for 10 days at a time and eaten way below where I am now. I am trying to be healthier than I was. But if I go to eating 800 calories or something less I will be in old habits. I didnt know workouts add to water retention that badly :/ I figured it would stop after a day or two. Youre the second to suggest it. Thank you. I stopped exercising for today. I am going to go back to it and maybe alternate and take a day off every few days to see if it helps the retention and the stomach pains.

Losing 3lb a week is unhealthy. You know this. You are trying to justify it.

Yes, exercise can stall out weight loss. I'm not sure what type of workout you are doing, but when I started lifting I stalled for a month. Then one day, whoosh. Big drop that stayed off.

I read your comment about depo. I heard somewhere (so it's just an idea to consider, I have no facts) that your body can still cycle through and have periods of water retention. So check that out as well and see if you are close to when that time should be.

I disagree? I dont feel losing 3lbs a week is unhealthy. People in my other weight loss group are losing about the same. didnt know the depo part. Thank you for the info!

So far I have lost 16lbs since October. 10 or so lbs in the last 3 weeks. I always make sure I over estimate rather than under.

This means you are losing around 3 pounds a week. Two pounds a week is recommended. Anymore then that and you are likely losing muscle and are at risk for lose skin. However it is possible you may have been losing water.

You have lost weight before but now are trying to lose weight again. Did you gain the weight back?

Also extra info but TMI so skip it if that bothers you but I have had tummy and digestive issues too but Im not sure if that could affect me so badly that Id go from losing 2-3lbs per week to nothing. Ive tried pills for that and it did nothing for me. I even ate almost a whole bag of broccoli today lol

What exactly are your digestive problems? Irritable bowel syndrome? Ulterative colitis? What pills are you taking?

With your history of an ED and digestive problems I do not feel it is appropriate for you to be posting on a weight loss form. It is unlikely any of the posters here are qualified to advise you and those that are understand that it is inappropriate to give you advice without access to your medical record.

You are also in a contest to lose weight despite having a history of an ED? I think you would benefit from talking to your doctor about seeing a dietitian or therapist.

Gained it back. I was bedridden for 5 months and unable to walk. I hadnt lost my pregnancy weight from my 1 year old yet at the time either so It just added on. This is the biggest Ive ever been. I dont know what my digestive issues are. No diagnosis just need to see a gastroenterologist. I have an appt for Jan. 18th. I cant use the bathroom and I seriously took 2 doses of laxative (twice in a day as it says is ok on the box) and it barely helped at all. Nothing helps. I ate broccoli. I even tried chocolate. I ate beans. lol. I tried everything and my stomach is killing me. and Im allowed to live. Just because I had an ed doesnt mean I cant be in a weight loss contest. I have also lost weight in a healthy way 3 times in the past (once in H.S. and once after each of my older two children)..

Because I asked should I eat MORE or what could cause water retention. I did not ask should I eat LESS and specifically said I definitely shouldnt. Losing 3 lbs a week with no exercise and you want me to eat less? That is not necessary.

Usually when people don't use a food scale I would think they're eating more than they think but you're 210lbs losing 3lbs per week? You're undereating. As above, you're doing an hour of Zumba a day which is decent cardio and grossing 1200 calories.

You may think you're keeping a grip on the ED issues but there are so many red flags here. Not only those in this thread but you're constant threads in a panic about some small thing or other that's totally normal and natural or something you must have read information about before due to your pretty high post count.

The last thing you need is a flipping weight loss contest.

Im usually netting 1200 not grossing. I havent eaten it all back lately because of the abdominal pain. The last thing I need is people telling me what I need because that pushes people with issues back to their issues. ED is a lot more than wanting to be thinner. And in a forum about support you should help with what the person requests, not start throwing out advice they dont ask for like "eat less" or "see a dr" when they dont need to do those things. I just wanted to know if I should up my calories for a few days or stop exercising to see if its water weight.

My advice/inexpert opinion, since I suggested and you confirmed..... Get some more sleep. 8 uninterrupted hours a night at minimum. Send the kids away if you have to, or go to a hotel. I get constipated when I don't get enough sleep. Even 6 hours is not enough. 8 hours I'm good with no trouble in the restroom and 10 hours I wake up weighing less. In my inexpert opinion you're not recovering from workouts, your body is stressed, anxiety over it all causes more stress, and yes, actually eating more nutritious food, not just random calories, may help.
