@kristinegift - 2400 miles in a year is awesome, not because of the number itself but because it means you stayed healthy enough to run pretty much all year long. Congratulations!

    December total – 171.76
    2016 total: 1,943.69 miles

Nominal Challenge Goal – 150 miles
Real Goals: Finish transition to healthy running. Use Club Nationals as a learning experience on managing air travel to a race. Build a base toward Boston training. Avoid re-injury

Today's notes – Today was the last training run of the FF session, with 7 or 9 miles. Our nominal target pace was 8:30 per mile, but there were only four of us: myself, Jim (the senior pace leader), Jeff, and a girl whose name I didn't catch. I let Jim set the pace, because the group would be more familiar with him pacing and because he's a better metronome than I am. Jim adjusted to what the group wanted, and brought the first 7 miles in at an average pace of 8:09. (I paused my watch to give results to Jeff, who had forgotten his watch.) The next 2 miles were just Jim and me, and we had a nice conversation while not paying much attention to how fast we were running. Then I set off for 2 solo miles, because that's what I needed to fill the marathon training week mileage. Those last 2 miles were a bit faster than target, around a 7:30 pace. I ended with 11.20 miles in 1:29:34 for an 8:00 per mile average.

Crazy thought crossed my mind: To some people, it's not a long run unless you run an hour and a half. Maybe I should have kept going for another 26 seconds?

For December, I finished above the nominal monthly target. That's okay, the target was an estimate meant to be exceeded. For 2016, I finished with 1943.69 miles, failing to run the year in miles. I didn't even run my birth year in miles. But that's due to injury; if I'd had a running month in October instead of bringing October in at under 17 miles, I would have run the year in 2016 without trying.

On to 2017! The major goal is to run Boston and be in good shape afterward. If I can stay healthy the whole year, running the year in miles for 2017 will just happen.

January 1, 2016 Resolution Run 7.5 mile (Mendon, NY) finished in 53:58

I just finished up my running for 2016. Ended up with 167.5 miles for December and just shy of 1800 miles for the year. Considering my goal for the year was just to stay healthy and get a good start on training for Boston, I think I did okay. Bring on 2017!

I did a super short run to the bakery this morning to fetch some rolls for breakfast. And decided to do a bit of strength training as well - four "you are your own gym" workouts in a week, that's a new record for me! I'm plannning to do at least three sessions per week next year.

My running goals for 2017 aren't completely decided yet. I got Hal Higdon's "Run Fast" for Christmas, so I'll try for a more systematic approach to speed work next year.
I really want to run a sub-2 hour half marathon! If I can run 2:06 in 25C (77F) heat after a week of too little sleep across rolling hills, I should be able to improve enough to make it, I hope. And after that I might train for another marathon - I really enjoyed training for my first one (at least that's what I remember now a few month later  ).

    ---

@patrikc333 Unless it's really hot, I don't drink anything on runs less than 1.5-2 hours. But I've found that I do get thirsty (and tired) after that amount of time if I drink nothing, even on a cold winter day, so I take water with me on really long runs. With just enough salt mixed in there to keep the electrolyte balance right - from all I read, drinking only water (and lots of it) to replace lost sweat is more dangerous than drinking nothing at all.

@MobyCarp Of course you can't just stop after 1:29:34! Everyone knows that you only train glycogen depletion/fat-burning capacity if you run for 90+ minutes, so the missing 26s are crucial
I'm always impressed when I read about the speed and distance of your runs. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you'll stay healthy for Boston and afterwards in 2017!

@9voice9 Happy Birthday! And fyi: to post pics from my phone I have to bypass the app and go to the mfp website in my phone Web browser :)

Finished the year with a 3.5 mile trail run that was exhausting :o I felt so out of shape.

630 miles for 2017. That makes me sad. I'm trying not to beat myself up. At least I never gave up and let the injuries knock me out for good. First year I ran all 12 months whereas the previous 18 months of running I had long breaks which were equivalent to starting over from scratch several times. And maybe I'm not meant to be a distance runner.

Coming into 2016 for me, I was still losing weight, and I was able to achieve that goal by March and maintain it throughout the year. Well...except on vacations...Lol! I started running a bit on the treadmill here and there in January. I never thought then that I'd be training for a marathon!!

Wishing everyone a fun filled New Year’s Eve and a Happy New Year!!

Last run of 2016 = 4 miles in mom's neighborhood

    December total = 91.85 miles

Total for second half of 2016 (July-December) = 504.85 miles

Try as I might, I couldn't find the totals from May and June in the old threads, so I'll just have to go with a 6-month total for 2016. If I keep at that rate, I will have no problem getting 1,000 miles in 2017.

    Happy new year everyone!

For December I ended up with 50.9 miles total. My goal was 50 miles. I'm really happy with that given that it's the first time I tracked mileage per month and because running (and distance) were not my primary goal as much as general fitness.

For January I'm planning on cutting one running day for a dedicated lifting day but will keep the same 50 mile goal.

For 2017 in total, I'll be thrilled if I can keep some consistency and break 500 miles.

Happy new year to everyone and congrats to everyone for keeping up with your running even if you didn't meet your goal this month.
