Whether you're on day 1 or day 5000 of your journey to health and fitness, one of the chief ingredients for success is a community to support and encourage you.
That's what this thread is about. The name says "Women Ages 50+" but all women are welcome. Some of us have been posting on this thread for a long time and some have just started. It doesn't take long to feel like you've known us forever.
If you made any goals or resolutions for November, how did you do?
If you have any goals or resolutions for December, we'd love to hear about them.

Resolutions for December:
*show up for physical therapy appointments and do the exercises assigned in between
*balance rest and activity--don't over-do
*meditate daily increasing time gradually until it reaches 20 minutes
*
Resolutions for November (with end of the month comments)
*follow the directions of the medical professionals for recovery from surgery (yes, except for slightly over-doing a few times)
*make daily use of my word for 2016-- "alacrity"....I will greet all experiences in my life with cheerful readiness (didn't grumble too much)
*knit another blanket for Project Linus (finished on November 30)

Happy to be starting again. I have alot to lose 75-100 pounds and am 58. I live outside of Pittsburgh and am excited to start again.

Went to ceramics tonight. I did all that baking and I really, really hate that those cookies are even in the freezer. Well, terrible as this may sound, I'm going to go to the library (where we usually have the Newcomer board meetings) a few days after Christmas and give them a cookie tray. Things that Vince won't eat, I can get rid of.
As I was driving to ceramics, it came down. I could go top speed 25. Usually I can do 40 or thereabouts. Vince stayed home, didn't go to ceramics, and decorated the trees.

katla - I like that sweet potato casserole recipe because it doesn't contain all the sugar and marshmallows.
Re in TX - our house is 5,000 sq ft.Today when I was at ceramics one of the gals who heads it said that she meant to give me an invite but that she understands this other lady gave me hers. So that made me feel good. Now I have to think of a gift to bring. It needs to be a wrapped $10 gift. I'm thinking a bottle of wine and maybe some chocolates to go with it. Last year I brought a cookie jar and filled it with cookies. Raw cookie dough/brownie batter/cake batter is definitely my downfall. I'm not so keen when it's baked but don't get me near it when it's raw. One good thing about my "scratchy" throat is that I didn't have as much of a desire to much on the dough. But I did have to sample it to be sure of things like there wasn't too much of a certain spice.
Sherry - you poor dear! My heart breaks for you. Whatever happened to that neighbor who wanted to share space with you?

Hello. My name is Grace. I think I posted on here a few months back and then just completely quit trying. Don't know why, I just did.
Anyway, today was my first day back on plan and it was a great day. I'm going to get up in the morning and do it all over again.
My goal for December is simple; consistency is what I'm aiming for. Thirty one days of consistent planning and tracking. I think that's about all I can handle during the Christmas season.
I live in the eastern part of Texas about 40 miles give or take from the Louisiana line.

Oh Sherry, you poor dear. I am so sorry you are in this situation. You had such high hopes of this and so many people have ruined it. Is that man still living next to you. Could the friend that brought the fit bit either house sit for you or do some grocery shopping for you. You can't go without eating, that will not only take you down physically but really bad emotionally and that is a bad thing. You have to keep your immune system up. I agree with the yoga or maybe meditation. I have Pandora on my phone and there are several stations that really help keep me up. And please keep up with us reading here even though you don't want to post. Maybe you could just put a period or comma or something and that will let us know you are reading. We really do care. If I knew how to post a Christmas tree or holly or a wreath I would.
We sant through our complete cantata tonight. Choir director really wants us to stand through the whole thing but we are an older church therefore an older choir. She wants us to stand all together. Well not every ones arthritis works as fast as others. I do know that I was beat after choir practice. Maybe I need to take Advil before church that Sunday instead of Aleve. Or take an arthritis pill. Holding out notes for 6 to 8 measures is pretty hard. Your spine really feels that.

Just doing a quick check for how I did in November on my Goals...
"1) Exercise daily – either at the gym or some hot sweaty equivalent.
2) Eat more vegetables!
3) Keep the protein intake up and the processed carbohydrates low. (Read BREAD, here. Sugar is so not my issue!)"
So, exercise - Nailed it. I did miss about 3 days out of 30 - one day I was fixing the toilette, another I worked too late to make the gym. I think there was one more - but, I would say that 90% is sufficient for that goal to be called a success.
Veggies - yeah, I did OK on that... I added as many veggies to my cooked meals as possible - But, I probably could have done more. So, I will have to keep that one for December.
the Protein to Carb ratio - um... yeah. That one was less than stellar. I was doing all right up until Thanksgiving - but this last week has been a giant Carb-Fest. (STUFFING!!) So, another one I need to work on in December.
Thankfully, there will be no feast-foods in the house at Christmas. DH and I have made a little tradition for the last few years of going to the same Chinese Buffet for dinner on Christmas. That way, even if I have to work the next day (which I often do) there is no strain or stress on me. That is my own little Christmas Gift to me. NO COOKING!
Goals for December:
1) Eat More Vegetables!
2) Keep the protein intake up and the processed carbohydrates low. (Protein +100/Carbs-100)
3) Increase daily steps on Fitbit. 8000/day minimum.

Grace - Welcome back, Sugar. You can do this! We will help. I found that keeping my weight loss goal low and my allowable calories higher made it easier for me to stay in control.

Good morning all!
I'm up early - again. I think I have my difficult friend on my mind. I have a good excuse for keeping the lunch meeting short as I have to get my blood pressure meds from the pharmacy ( I take the last one in the packet today) and get folding cash for the niece and nephew and a bit more food for tomorrow's lunch party. The cash is for their Christmas presents. This year will be the last year my niece gets a cash gift. I stopped the others at 18 and she will be 18 in March. That will be her last time, unless we are actually invited to a party. My brother has six children and nine grandchildren. My last nephew is 15, so I have a few more years there. I have wrapped my brother's present and my DSIL's.
Sherry - Sending my sympathy.
I have done all my Christmas shopping on line. Hate going to the shops. Can't stand the music, so I'm limited to a few stores that don't have it. The last few years we have both done everything on line. We regularly get a food delivery, but also fill in with perishables.
DH does more food shopping than I do as he is the "fruit monitor". We have fresh fruit salad on our muesli every morning in bed, which he prepares and brings up with our second cup of tea. I get the first cup. Actually they are large mugs. :laugh: He also makes some variety of stewed fruit which we have for dessert every day with my homemade yoghurt. Very little sugar. Last night was home grown apples and blackcurrants. He freezes blackcurrants and gooseberries that we grow and stores our apples carefully. He goes out into the hedgerows and collects mountains of blackberries to freeze. Some of them he turned into a cordial.
One thing we will do, if we ever sell this house and get to Hove, is buy a blackcurrant and a gooseberry bush. Ours have been amazing!
OK, time to take up the tea to this paragon. Love you ladies!
Oh, last night I texted DOS at 21.52 to say, "It's a boy!" I was raising a tiny glass of spiced rum. He texted back, "Love you." Aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh.

Good morning, all, and welcome to December.... Thank you, Barbie, for making us this place once more. You are a rock. This is my island in the stormy seas of life, where I can come, read about all your lives, and be at peace in my own. I am incredibly grateful.
Performance on my Goal for November: "Be lighter" physically, mentally, spiritually. Physically - failed. Gained weight. Mentally - succeeded with flying colors, as I ponied up and moved myself to part-time from the full-time job that is exhausting me. Spiritually? Hard to tell, but I know that I learned from the gaining, which is part of why I set my foot down and decided that I needed to take care of myself first.
Goal for December: "Be lighter." Physically, mentally and spiritually.
My new Fitbit Charge HR 2 should be in within a day or two, that's part of it. So is tracking again--I've made abortive attempts the last few days, but am newly resolved to do so. I'm setting myself up for success again--I've let the stresses of my life sidetrack me into failure, and it's time to stop doing that.
On the personal side, the one place fell through--I offered $17K, they came back with $22K, and we were just too far apart to make sense, so we dropped it. However, as if to reward us for having sense enough NOT to buy land at this point, an opportunity came up to swap my DH's little Mazda 6 in for a truck that is big enough haul our camper/trailer (which I've taken to calling the House McNugget).
My pickup is a GMC Sierra, with enough power technically to tow the trailer, but if you put more than a toothpick extra in it, my baby truck would have a nervous breakdown from the weight. With the 1999 F350 with a 7.3L diesel, he has an engine he understands, and can literally take apart and put together again, being an old-school mechanic. Plus we have a truck that, with care, will last as much as 750,000 more miles. Diesel engines are expected to get up to a million miles on them before they kick over the traces. The stuff they don't teach you in school! It has a massive grill guard and a flatbed on it with toolboxes. He is in absolute heaven. For perspective, our camper weighs 7,000 pounds-ish. This beastie is rated to tow up to 19,000 pounds.
And, for me, it's the last major expenditure. Now we're just fine-tuning everything, saving money, doing project work. If the warehouse sells in the spring, we leave. If not, we stay here another year or two and put money away until we're ready to go. I've got a new blog to get up and running on all the prep work we're doing, all the things we're learning, and a quilting project (paid) to go bid on today.
And my health to get back.
I do love y'all, though I don't comment on everything that happens with everyone. You're in my heart and on my mind.

Morning, happy December!
Goals from November with reflections:
Count my blessings and log CICO: yep
Embrace my travels with little anxiety: yep, and I get extra credit for hosting and enjoying t-day gathering
Don't eat out or clothes shop: pretty good, just ate out on vacation, put away my savings goal
Be lighter: ........ ...... cricket..... cricket
And that ladies is where I need to go a little deeper. Been on this journey before where I lose the weight, feel great and happy and full of energy and then The creep creep creep of the nibbles, the overdoing it, and the skipping of the gym starts to take a hold. Thank goodness for a new month to clear the slate.
I am gonna take a hard look at my diary, my daily anxiety, my mood and motivation and pick one habit to adjust so I can halt this trend of old behavior. Where I go off maintenance and gain gain gain.
Not planning to lose weight this month, I am planning to look hard at some triggers that lead me to sabotage what has been a really healthy set of habits such as:
Move every day
Plan out balanced meals
No night time eating past dinner
It might be boring but those 3 habits worked for my body and I am ignoring them.... lots to think about today.

Good Morning all. I have not posted here in a while but wanted to check in. Had a rough few weeks - had hit Onderland, celebrated too much and need to find it again.
My goal this month is to try and maintain - stay on plan during the week, try to stay away from the sweets, be careful on the weekend but ENJOY the holidays.
donnajz4241 - I am also a fellow Disney lover! Go to Disneyworld a few times a year - trip coming up in January - yeah!

November Resolutions:
1. Log every bite and swallow. Done
2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week. Work on flexibility and back strength. Done
3. Have fun every day. Done.
4. Drink at least three glasses of water daily, preferably more! Done. I log this so there is a crecord.
5. Monitor sleep. Try to average 7 or more hours of sleep nightly. Did well at sleeping except when I returned from Illinois. It is weird that I did fine going, but coming home I had adjustment trouble. It was over quickly.
December Resolutions will be the same. They work for me. :bigsmile:

Heather: I plan to do my shopping online, too. I told DD to set up a gift wish list on Amazon with several choices for everyone & I would order things and have them delivered. Win-win. I would have to ship everything and it cost plenty last year just for shipping. Since we have Amazon Prime shipping will be free. :bigsmile: Is your DOS's boy a dog? I remember he was pet hunting.
Lisa in WTX: Diesel vehicles are wonderful. You've made a great choice there. Both of our vehicles are diesel. The engines are solid. The older car needs some work on doors and locks and I need a new key for it.
NYKaren: Your goals make sense. I make the same goals over and over because they work and your goals look great.
I heard from DS yesterday and he and DDIL are both sick after their Thanksgiving travels. That happened to us last year and I hope they have a shorter time of sickness than we did. Ours lasted for weeks. DH had an appointment with his eye doctor yesterday and is scheduled for an additional appointment with a specialist tomorrow. It appears that he may be having cataract surgery in one eye. I hope it all falls into place because he's noticed a sharp downturn in vision over the last week or two.
The tiny Rosemary Christmas tree I bought at the grocery store died, so on our way back from the eye doctor we stopped at a nursery & I bought a tiny Alberta Spruce to be our tabletop tree. I have a larger one for the living room window. I bought the larger Alberta Spruce a few years ago and we still have it. It will be in our living room window. Over all it is about 45 inches tall including the pot. It will be on a coffee table in the living room window. The little one is 25 inches including the pot and is currently sitting in the middle of my dining table. I may move it to a place of honor at the top of the stairs or I may leave it where it is. Alberta Spruce trees are very slow growers and tolerate moving indoors for a few weeks in December, so I can have them for years. Naturally I have named them. The bigger one is Alberta, and the little one is tentatively Sprucie. Original naming? Well, it works for me. :laugh:

Katla - I was just celebrating the minute that DOS popped out 40 years ago as I had told him I would be raising a glass at that time. In those days we didn't know if it was a girl or boy. :noway: Him texting me he loved me was a very unexpected bonus. We are not a demonstrative family.
One of our Monday viewers has cancelled as he has decided our village is not for him. Can't blame him, it's not for me either. :laugh:
Let's hope the other one makes it here this time.
My lunch was perfectly bearable and I only spent an hour with my difficult friend as I had a lot to get done before tomorrow. DH had to pick up the cleaner as she had blown a gasket!!!! and I had to get blood pressure pills and food for tomorrow's lunch. He will take her back in a minute.
I know I ought to make the mashed potato for tomorrow but the sofa is calling me.

My heart goes out to those that need it. My depression is bad but no where near as bad as some of you. My DH contributes by being negative and angry all the time. Not making excuses but his kids have not called, txt, return his attempts at contact, or any communications even though we only live about 5 miles apart.
Dh's hives are still there and I think he needs to go to the gastrointestinal doc again but he refuses. Plus his arthritis is acting up. He gets a very down around the holidays.
He brings me down along with my kids being distant ( though physically close) holidays, don't feel like I belong and jealousy. Financial worries and my arthritis is acting up.
I don't want to lose this post. On phone talk later.

Lenora Love the sound of your myriad lights twinkling and flashing. When we stayed at home for Christmas the tree would have decorations from when kids were small a set of lights my Mum had bought for me. Then I would start adding more lights, baubles and tinsel. DH used to put up lots of lanterns and streamers in the lounge, definitely not a 'less is more' person when it came to Christmas.
Re We go to Benidorm in Spain for 3 or 4 weeks every Christmas You are so inspiring when you talk about going to the gym as I'm scared to go in case I look a fool
Sherry My heart is so heavy for you wish there was something we could do for you. But if good thoughts and prayers will help there are plenty of them here

Didn't set any goals for November except to get 10,000 steps in - didn't always manage that As I've got various things going on until I go away I'll leave goal setting until January

If the rest of my years go as fast as this one, I’ll be 90 before the blink of an eye. I love December and all the Christmas decorations and music and just the different atmosphere.
Heather, it sounds like your son is doing better. I hope the Vet thing works out for him.
MicheleNC, you are so right about this weird weather! Yesterday I wore crop pants and a short sleeved shirt. Tomorrow will be back close to normal.
Toni, the fires are terrible. I hated to hear about the deaths from them this morning. I do hope the rain helped some. Glad the fire wasn’t near you.

Rita, so sorry to hear that things are so down for you this time of year. Our kids have no idea how they can affect us with just the lack of communication. Just remember you have lots of friends here even though we can’t give you a physical hug. ((((Hugs))))

Sasha goes for her dental cleaning this morning so no food after bedtime last night....I felt like such a mean mom not giving either dog any breakfast. Jake took Brandy for a short walk and then gave her pills and treats and breakfast while I walked Sasha. Fortunately it's only one day.

Logged about 95% of food
Did not lose anything
Read and posted every day
Exercise about 74%
December goals same as November:
Lose 5 pounds by Dec. 31 by logging all food every day, reading this forum and posting at least once a day, at least 30 minutes of exercise 5 out of 7 days a week.

Rita: If you are doing everything right and your weight is holding steady you may be on a plateau. I had many many many plateaus on the weigh to my goal. Don't let them get you down. They seem to be part of the process for many of us. :ohwell:2

I turned 60 in August and had 150 lbs to lose. I fell off the wagon last week. And pigged like no tomorrow. My goal is to get on the wagon and keep riding through the hills and valleys. Well actually to walk through the hills and valleys to become more active. I am in Georgia.3
