I grew up spreading peanut butter pretty thin on thin bread. I have a memory of going to a friend's house and getting a pb&j so thick I could barely choke it down without milk.

Yup...I grew up pretty poor...PB was cheap and calorie dense...one of my mom's staples for feeding a growing boy. PB and Wonder Bread.

I ate peanut butter on one piece of folded bread and a can of condensed chicken noodle soup for lunch many, many times during summer break. My folks are great and were doing the best they could.

that's lucky, we rarely had bread or anything that could go bad. my sister and i had to share a 99 cent tostinos pizza or we had to share a package of ramen. i still cringe thinking about eating frozen pizzas.

edit: sorry, it was totino's cheese "party pizza".

I feel bad about the dire circumstances that prompted the comment, and frozen pizza was a staple of my unpleasant childhood too, but I still happen to like Totinos pizzas, and now they're my kids' favorite. Go figure.

LOL if only I could handle them! I could eat ramen and pb&j everyday for the rest of my life, but now I can't continue to eat a delicious 600 calories "pizza". The macros aren't too bad for them either. ;)

I usually pack my lunch. Most of the time it’s leftovers from last night’s dinner. My lunches are reasonable portions of good and healthy homemade dishes. Calories can vary anywhere from 180-350. Yesterday there were no leftovers and I didn’t want to eat out, so I packed a peanut butter and jelly on Franz Great Seed Whole Wheat sliced bread. Between the 2 slices of bread, the peanut butter and the jelly, I consumed almost half a day’s worth of calories! GRR! I love peanut butter, but wow, that was not worth it.

Holy moly, how much PB did you use? I have a PB and Nutella sandwich every morning for breakfast and it's only 337 calories. A tablespoon of each, and whole grain white bread form Bimbo.

Good time for this thread to pop to the top. I tried PB2 for the first time just a few days ago and this thread inspired me to mix some with jam and spread on toast.

Not the decadent pb&j of my past but a reasonable facsimile thereof. ;) Reminds me of the flavor of Smuckers Goober Grape PB&J Stripes

At 130 calories it has made it into the snack or light lunch rotation.

    ENJOY

1200 calories/per day. Though it's not the end of the world if I go over a bit. I didn't measure the PB, but it seemed like close to 2tbls. The bread was 260 for both slices. The PB another 160 or so. The jelly 50. And that adds up to 470 give or take a few.

Sounds like the bread was more of the problem than the peanut butter. Check out Dave's Killer bread. Seedy, tasty and only 60 calories per slice.

Brownberry Sandwich Thins or Thomas High-Fiber English Muffin: 100 calories.
    2Tb peanut butter: 200 calories.
Smucker's Sugar Free jelly or preserves (I like the marmalade): 10-20 calories.

Total: 320 calories. Which is right in line with your leftover lunches. The sugar free jelly has a funny texture, but once you spread it on the sandwich that doesn't matter.

@Michael190lbs I'm not sure if I'm reading this right.. Just find a gram serving entry, or input 1.9 serves (=190g) for a 100g entry.

    Go for a brisk walk.

And hour should give you about 200 extra calories to play with ... that'll cover your PB&J.

That brought back memories!! I used to inhale one of those after work every day ... way, way back when.

Sadly, I discovered I'm quite intolerant to peanuts and haven't touched peanut butter in about 20 years.
