DIET SODA!

So, recently I've gotten really attached to diet soda (specifically Diet, Caffeine Free Pepsi). I know there's a big kerfluffle about whether or not diet soda is awful for you, so I wanted to see what my fellow MFPers thought. Do you guys ever drink diet soda? If so, what's your favorite kind? If not, feel free to talk about why!

I drink it on occasion.
I don't have any health concerns over moderate diet soda consumption provided you don't have PKU.0 -
I had a. Diet Pepsi the other day....refreshing. I use to drink a lot more. Of it....but now only occasionally.0
-
Diet Dr. Pepper, nearly every day. Losing weight and haven't grown a third arm or anything! :-D0
-
Personally, I enjoy the taste of soda every now and then, and I would just prefer to not drink my calories in the process. So, I say Diet Pop is fine, as long as it's not an everyday thing.0

It beats drinking away 150+ calories per bottle! So if you want a soda, insist on diet.0
-
It has been four months since I have had soda and I feel so much better (and my teeth thank me). Stay away from diet soda, recent science tests have shown that it actually makes you eat more.0
-
I'm not much of a soda drinker, but it's not because of health reasons. But Diet Tonic & grape vodka with a splash of Sprite Zero is yummy.0
-
I prefer Sparkling Ice. Flavored sparkling water, zero calories, has vitamins & antioxidants, and comes in a variety of refreshing flavors!0
-
I drink it. Raised on it actually. It doesn't make me crave sweets or anything else.
Drink it mainly for the caffeine so I don't fall asleep when I should be working lol
I have a SodaStream now so I just make my own when the feeling hits me.0 -
I drink Diet Pepsi and I love it. Never gonna give it up! If I was going to ever have another child, I might rethink DP and some other things too, but since it's not going to happen, I'll continue drinking it. And no, it doesn't make me eat more.0

You know, I have noticed that my cravings for more sugary foods have gone up a little bit since I started really swilling the diet soda. That's an interesting factoid and I'll keep an eye on how things are in the future. c:I prefer Sparkling Ice. I like Sparkling Ice, too! They almost always have it on sale at my neighborhood Publix, so I pick some up every now and then. ♥0 -
I drink diet soda like water. Mainly Diet Dr. Pepper.0

I was a one-time Diet Coke junkie who lived with her 44 ounce refill bottle by her side. Happy to report that I have not drank any kind of soda since June 13, 2008. I've now started my 6th year being soda free!0

The only issue with diet soda that I've noted is they are REALLY high in sodium, which could contribute to water retention and bloated feeling.0

Used to drink a lot of it. A lot. Stopped drinking it a couple of years ago. Didn't gain a pound after stopping, so it apparently wasn't helping me drop weight. Don't even miss the stuff. I thought quitting would be impossible but it turned out not to be difficult at all.0 -
i have always been told that fizzy pops streach your stumach out
have you ever tried letting a bit of air out of the bottle before you do it back up. if you leave it long enough it's goes back to it's original shape.
All that gas is slowly getting relievsed into your stumach and putting preasure in it which helps expand your stumach and in turn makes you more hungry.
I think a little every now and then is fine but beware. also alot of sweetners are just as bad if not worse than the sugar itself0 -
i don't always drink soda, but when I do - i prefer the real stuff, Coca Cola. Stay Thirsty my friends.

I'll keep that in mind. c:i don't always drink soda, but when I do - i prefer the real stuff, Coca Cola. Stay Thirsty my friends.
Have you tried Heritage Dr Pepper with the real sugar? It's so good. It's almost like a fancy dessert for me.0 -
I am slowly stopping....0

Diet Coke is the last vice I have in this world and I refuse to give it up.

I drink one Pepsi Max a day, usually late afternoon or for dinner.0

There are no legitimate health reasons for consuming diet sodas, except for the teeth issue which actually is a serious concern when you drink it like water as many dieters do -- this is a function of the carbonation however and any fizzy drink will have a negative effect on your teeth in the long run.
That said I drink it daily. Ice cold diet soda? Dieter's saviour.0 -

NO
I just checked labels on both. 8 oz of milk has 3x the sodium as a 12 oz can of diet soda. Neither is high (120 mg vs 40)0 -
I drink Coke Zero or Diet Dr Pepper when I'm really in the mood for pop. It's not about the sugar or the calories for me - it's about diabetes/insulin issues and I prefer not to drink my carbs! Everyone who sees me dieting and drinking this goes to tell me how that stuff "won't make you lose weight," yeah, it's not about that for me. I have to watch carbs over calories and if I'm dying for a soda, it's gonna be a diet.
**also, i've been doing it so long I just prefer the taste, just like how I prefer my tea (iced and hot) with no sugar, just lemon0 -
I have read up on diet soda. More specifically aspartame. It's not good for you. It's linked to cancer. That being said I can't drink water all the time, juices are out for their carb content and I really don't like crystal light or anything. SO every once in a while I will have a diet pop. I like cherry flavored sodas, like diet cherry pepsi, or diet cherry 7up. I also like diet orange soda. The one diet pop I will not touch is coke. I think it tastes awful.
I only have a pop after I've achieved my 8 cups of water for the day.0 -

Woops! I'd totally overlooked the search function and just guestimated that there wasn't another topic like this by going back a few pages in the threads. I'll definitely use that in the future. Thank you for pointing it out to me! ♥0 -

yeah, i don't buy that at all....0 -
SURE!
DIET SODA IS GREAT IF
YOU ADD VODKA OR WHISKEY TO IT!0 -
I have them occassionally. I just really don't desire them very much any more. But sometimes there are days that if I don't get a diet Mtn Dew, someone might lose a limb.0
